The Tracker: Western Romantic Suspense

Rate this book
She’s the golden girl who’s looking for something real. He’s the broken protector who swore he’d never love again. Together, they might just rewrite the rules.

I was born lucky. Billion-dollar empire, Southern charm, and the kind of curves men trip over themselves to chase. But lately? My life feels hollow. When a corporate spy threatens everything my family built, I turn to the best, Silver Spur Security. And straight into the arms of Dawson Hart.

Dawson’s the kind of man who doesn’t flinch under fire… or smile for anyone. A former Texas Ranger with a haunted past, he’s all cold eyes, hard muscle, and rigid control. He doesn’t want this job. Doesn’t want me.

Too bad I’ve always had a thing for lost causes.

Our working relationship is supposed to be simple, track the mole, protect the company. But nothing about Dawson is simple. He sees through the polished surface, calls out the chaos underneath. He pushes. I push back. Until push turns into something else entirely, hotter, darker, and far more dangerous.

When bullets start flying and betrayal hits too close to home, we’ll both have to face the I may be the golden girl, but Dawson? He’s the only man strong enough to hold me together when everything shatters.

And I’m not giving him up.

This was a great story of 2 people trying to find a way to work together without loss of pride, loss of control, and without any more loss of life in a dangerous hostile takeover in Evangeline's family business. Evangeline explores her submissive side with Dawson who opens himself up to caring for someone again all while trying to investigate and save the company and keep Evangeline alive! Great storyline and growth of the relationship.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

This is the fifth story in the Silver Spur Security Series and will revolve around Evangeline Shaw, PR for Shaw Petrochemical and Dawson Hart with Silver Spur Security. The story is mystery, suspense, life and death danger, and eventually a romance.

Evangeline Shaw’s father is out of the country, in Dubai, working on a deal. She is the polished face of the company’s so-called PR division. Her real job is to look good in quarterly reports and stand quietly beside her father, the CEO, during merger announcements. She is responsible for attending all the galas to represent Shaw Petrochemical. She is recently engaged to Peter Rhodes, who showed up two years ago as a so-called ‘consultant’ brought in to streamline sales. A moment alone, to gain control, will lead to overhearing a dangerous conversation.

Peter:…a matter of weeks, maybe days. Once the board signs off, Shaw steps aside and I take the helm. She’ll endorse whatever I hand her—marriage license, proxy, prenup addendum. All ribbon-tied.
Second man: Not bad for a temp spy gig.
Peter: Temporary? I told you—why siphon data when I can own the wellhead? After the wedding, the Shaws will be ceremonial at best... if they’re lucky.

The story will have Evvy running into Keely Malone, filling her in, and Keely will call for help at Silver Spur, where the girls will be rescued and followed by a car chase. The closest location to head to will be The Iron Spur, where Evangeline will witness Dawson Hart in a scene.

“WE KNOW WHAT YOU HEARD. KEEP QUIET OR WE’LL MAKE YOU.”

Evvy: That’s your brother’s firm, and the one Jesse works for, right?
Keely: One and the same. All former military and Texas-tough. Reed will know who best to put on it. Their lead tracker, I suspect.
Evvy: Tracker?
Keely: Dawson Hart. Former Texas Ranger and Army CID.
Evvy: CID?
Keely: Criminal Investigation Division. The Army’s answer to NCIS. Cold eyes, bulletproof calm. If Peter’s playing spy games, Dawson will know how to sniff him out and make him run for cover.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. How deep is the infiltration by Peter and the unknown man? Evangeline must place her trust in Dawson to keep her safe, and along with him and the others at Silver Spur Security, to dive into the company records.

“You’re not fragile. But that doesn't mean you’re not vulnerable. Learn the difference.”

I liked Dawson and Evangeline together. To keep her safe, he takes her to his loft apartment, trusting the security there. It won’t be long before they move their relationship to intimacy with a touch of BDSM. I like that he sees more in her than just a pretty face at Shaw Petrochemical; he recognizes that she is intelligent, and together, they work to uncover the betrayal at Shaw. The more threats that come, the stronger she shows she is.

“You were never meant to be more than a pretty face. Stop digging, Evangeline.”

Dawson: I’ve got you. All the pieces, all the wreckage. I’m not letting go.
Evangeline: Don’t. Just—don’t.

Evangeline: Do you ever regret stepping into my mess?
Dawson: You’re not a mess. You’re the reason I want out of the shadows.

“He’d started as her protector. But between surveillance logs and bloodstained truths, everything changed. Betrayal cut deep. Hard truths stripped away any illusion. What remained was forged in fire—raw, real, unbreakable.”

THE TRACKER is the fifth instalment in Delta James contemporary, adult THE COWBOYS OF SILVER SPUR SECURITY erotic, Dom/sub romantic suspense series. This is former Texas Ranger Dawson Hart, and PR consultant for Shaw Petrochemical Evangeline Shaw’s story line. THE TRACKER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information form the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including Dom/sub situations, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Dawson and Evangeline) THE TRACKER follows in the wake of Evangeline’s discovery of a corporate spy, and the attempt on her life. With the help of her friend, Evangeline finds herself under the protection of Dawson Hart, former Texas Ranger now working for Silver Spur Security, and the man with whom Evangeline will fall in love. Not all is as it appears to be, someone is murdered, files are missing, and security logs are wiped but with determination and experience, Evangeline and the crew at Silver Spur Security uncover a trail of betrayal at Shaw Petrochemical.

The world building follows the search for the truth as Evangeline and Dawson begin to ferret out the people responsible sabotaging Evangeline’s family owned business. The board of directors is now under suspicion, and with Evangeline’s father on safari, our heroine is left to her own devices to uncover the truth.

The relationship between Evangeline and Dawson begins as a working assignment. Evangeline has been targeted, with ant attempt on her life, and Dawson is determined to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate with some D/s scenes.

The secondary and supporting characters include the board of directors for Shaw Petrochemical, as well as security specialist Gavin and Reed. The requisite evil has many faces.

THE TRACKERS is a story of betrayal and vengeance, greed and manipulation, power and control, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is intriguing and dramatic; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are desperate and determined.

WOW!!! This book by Ms. James deserves top marks as it highlights her unique ability
and skills to draw her readers in from the beginning as she sets about tantalizing us
with this raw, intense, seductive love story rich in complexity and spirit. I have enjoyed
all of the books in this series, but Evangaline and Dawson’s story touched my heart
as they battled lies, deceit, danger, betrayal, murder, mystery, and corporate espionage.

The story starts with Evangeline overhearing a conversation about her fiancé's plans to
set her up and take over her father's company once they are married. This puts
Evangeline in danger. From this point on, and with the help of a friend, Evangeline finds
herself under the protection of Dawson Hart, an ex-Texas Ranger and a member of the
Silver Spurs Security. Together, Evangeline and Dawson face unknown enemies as they
battle to find out who is behind the betrayal while keeping safe.

I like strong, intelligent female characters and admired how Evangeline grew a backbone
and didn't fall apart under pressure. She was vulnerable but not fragile. Although she was
a contradiction at times, she craved control but found the freedom of submitting to Dawson
exhilarating. Dawson opened a world that was warm, solid, and welcoming.

Dawson was a quiet, calm, steady force and was protective and deadly. Due to past damage,
damage, he was not interested in a relationship, but he could not ignore his escalating
feelings for Evangeline. I loved how patiently and without pressure he led Evangeline
through submission, shattering her layers and breaking through her armor. I did not like
how he kept retreating, leaving Evangeline on edge about their future.

This well-written, adrenaline-fuelled story had an exciting plot and a wide range of
secondary characters who added depth and interest. It was everything and more than
I expected. Well worth a read.

This is the fifth installment in the Silver Spur Security Series, spotlighting Evangeline Shaw, the PR powerhouse of Shaw Petrochemical, alongside Dawson Hart from Silver Spur Security. This gripping narrative combines elements of mystery, suspense, life-and-death peril, and a compelling romance.

With her father out of the country in Dubai, hammering out a critical business deal, Evangeline steps up to manage the company’s public image. She isn't just the polished face of the PR department; she plays a crucial role in maintaining her father's reputation as the CEO during merger announcements and ensuring a strong presence at high-profile galas.

Engaged to Peter Rhodes, who has infiltrated the company under the guise of a "consultant" to streamline sales, Evangeline's world takes a dangerous turn when she overhears a treacherous conversation in a moment of solitude. Without hesitation, she rushes to her best friend, Keely Malone, who instantly contacts her brother at Silver Spur for help. Soon after being rescued, the two women find themselves involved in a high-stakes car chase.

Their destination? The Iron Spur BDSM club, where Evangeline witnesses Dawson Hart in a captivating scene. He is the expert tracking agent assigned to her case, and together, they navigate a thrilling landscape of corporate espionage, theft, murder, and an attempted corporate takeover. This story, crafted by Delta James, expertly weaves together themes of dominance and submission, showcasing Evangeline's journey to discover her strength while learning to trust someone enough to let go. Prepare for an exhilarating ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

I love reading books by Delta James you get pulled into the story and taken on a journey of a life time. This book was another exhilarating book to read, I was pulled into the story and taken on a journey of emotional turmoil especially when your pretending to be someone you don't feel you are. Evangeline (Evy) Shaw was at "The Shaw Petrochemical gala" she is eloquently poised practised so many times. When she overhears her fiancé talking to someone about corporate spies, and what he might give her or not, and now a dangerous ex that put a target on her back. She was talking to her good friend Keely when a bullet just missed her, the two women walked away grabbed something to take with them before they ran out of the building and into a car that belongs to Keely's partner and taken to "Silver Spur Security" for protection. Silver Spur Security are based at the Club The Iron Spur, San Antonio and its exclusive lifestyle club. Dawson Hart is a ex-military, a former Texas Ranger, is one of the Dom's, all the ex-military men work for the Silver Spur Security. Dawson made it clear to Evy, if he is protecting her she needs to do what he tells her after all he is a Dom, and took her to his place it is the safest place close to them now. Dawson knows exactly what they are up against he has delt with people like these before. Their arguments were harsh so she would be bratty, the more banter the more heat then they kissed.

This book starts with a Roar and never let's off the gas. Evangeline, the lead female character, is neck deep in subtrafuge and lies when she catches a whiff. Thus starts a chain of events and Dawson entering her life as both protector and tracker (information finder/pinpointing flags). What started as a single statement has now encompassed her life. Dawson is the only predictable and steady presence she has, which is both terrifying and electrifying. They must work together to identify the source of the subtrafuge, contain and eliminate it - before it can do the same to her.

I loved that, despite his reservations and attempts to avoid it, Dawson sees past all her walls and the image Evangeline puts on for others - like she was taught. He's patient, gentle (when need be), imposing, steady - constantly, and exactly what Evangeline needs to be able to truly be herself. Still, the question remains... will she?

I was thrilled to receive a gift copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. This is a wonderful series that can be read in any order - though best experienced in written sequence. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

I wanted to love this fifth book in the series…
I loved Dawson in the past four books in this series which I have read, but I had a hard time caring about him or Evangeline in this book. (Although I do love the name Evangeline.) This book was technically good, well-written and the plot was promising, but honestly, I kept falling asleep while reading it. I just had a hard time connecting with the characters. Even the love scenes were skippable. I feel dreadful because I usually enjoy anything that Ms. James writes.
Evangeline is head of the PR department at her father’s company, Shaw Petrochemical but her job is really to just look pretty. She overhears a shocking conversation; she tries to get away but her stilettos give her away. When gunshots are heard and barely miss Evangeline, her best friend suggests she call Silver Spur Security for aid as they are making a hasty exit. Enter Dawson, the Silver Spurs tracker. He has a backstory which explains his initial hesitation with Evangeline. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

I loved Evangeline and Dawnson to begin with she has always had control of everything she has locked herself away hiding a version of herself that begs to be set free and it is when danger is near her that things get complicated the threats that arise drag her to fall under the protection of Dawson who is a man who over the years has built walls of control and always stay in line a control that he will not let go but when Evangeline comes into his life all the lines start to blur and Dawson will break all the rules that he imposed on himself to ensure that Evangeline is not hurt and Evangeline with Dawson's help will let out that part that has been kept hidden and together they will put an end to the threats that aim to bring Evangeline down they together are the perfect duo their chemistry from the moment one felt quite strong and how everything is developing is simply magnificent to read. To Delta, thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

A wonderfully entertaining read, great characters and wonderful storyline readers enjoy
I have thoroughly enjoyed Evangeline and Dawson she is always in control and has hidden a part of herself away and it is a part of herself that dearly wants to be free and it seems that when danger strikes or threats of any nature, she finds herself falling on the protection of Dawson.
Evangeline comes into Dawsons life and he ensures that Evangeline is kept safe and is not hurt by with the help of Dawson he ensures that she is safely able to allow the part of herself she has hidden so carefully some time to be free without any threats and I have to say that I found this to be another simply wonderful read by Delta.
I am sure that others will enjoy this book as much as myself and will find it impossible to put down until I reached the end and discovered the final outcome.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Evangeline was only ever supposed to be a fluff piece at her father's company, but she overheard her fiance talking to another man, that he was a corporate spy at a company gala. She tried to get away calling her bestfriend who called Silver Spur Security. They barely managed to get her away from the gala and to safety. They assigned her to Tracker or Dawson Hart, which he did not watch over debutants. They were to flighty for him. Evangeline was anything but flighty, she was a natural born Texan had a conceal and carrying license and knew how to use the gun that went with it. She was not going to let anyone take over her father's company, while he was out of the country. She made short work of breaking down Dawson's walls from a previous relationship that left him off women. Hot and steamy might melt your tablet by night, as they searched for who all were behind the demise of her father's company by day heavy on the action and suspense.

Evangeline Shaw, head of PR for Shaw Petrochemical, has just overheard her 'loving' fiance telling someone that marrying her will give him the keys to the kingdom. Apparently, working for the company and being engaged to her is just the warmup of his plans. A threatening text message, followed by a precisely placed gunshot, has Evvie's friend Keeley calling in the big guns. Dawson Hart, former Texas Ranger and Army CID. As a Dom at Iron Spur Dawson uses his whips to quiet his mind, protecting Evangeline Shaw is going to let in a whole lot of noise. She is a strong woman and not easily spooked, but someone has her in his cross-hairs. It's going to take all of Dawson's willpower to keep her at arms length.

It seemed like the end of the book was rushed and a complete surprise. Suddenly, they had found out information that there was no mention of until the big reveal. Just saying. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

This is a very interesting story of corporate spies, espionage, theft, murder, and attempted corporate takeover. Evangeline Shaw is the daughter of the owner. While her father is out of the country, Evangeline overhears her fiancé and another employee talking about taking over the company and getting rid of anyone in the way.

When Evangeline is almost shot, her friend refers her to Silver Spur Security and she was placed with their expert tracker, Dawson Hart. It took time for them to trust one another and get past their assumptions, but they were able to develop a true partnership.

The last chapter laid out all that was being done to the company and who was involved. Everyone got their just rewards! I would have preferred if there was more of a lead-in to the last chapter, as it felt like it was quickly wrapped up. SHES DONE PRETENDING

Dawson and Evangeline. A gala. A fiance. She needed air. She overhears him. Not what she thought. She ran. She and her friend mad a plan. Then the text. A warning shot. She has a target on her back. Keely, (you remember Jesse and Keely right?), her BFF said they needed protection. Silver Spur. A thumb drive. An escape. A Dom with a capital D. A feeling not felt before and one that was welcome. That primal look. While pulling her away it pulled her closer. The introduction. Let the fun begin.

Dont care how many books I read by this author I will always get lost in her stories. I read them in one day. They make you want to be right in the middle of all the dangerous and romantic chaos. This is book 5 in this series. If you dont read them all you are definetly missing out. Theres danger, suspense, mystery, and oh so hot chemistry and the thrill of submitting. Loved it.

I really enjoyed reading Dawson and Evvy's story. I liked the suspense, the twists , the secrets revealed and the mystery of who was trying to kill her and why . I especially loved the ending. It was perfect. This can be read as a standalone story.

Evangeline was powerful, smart and was able to make smart decisions. She also knew when to obey orders and when to question them. I loved her banter with Dawson. They had a rocky start but soon enough they found common ground. There was also steam to the eventual romance.

I liked Dawson. I liked reading about his past and how it affected his life. How with Evvy's help he was able to make peace with himself. He had a hard time trusting anyone.

I liked that the whole team helped , leading the way was Dawson of course with Evangeline's help.

What you want and what you need are sometimes not the same, but have the same end result.

Evvy did not want to need Dawson professionally. And Dawson did not to need Evvy personally. But we all know that we don't always get what we want. What these two strong individuals wanted, went right out the window as soon as they started living together in close proximity. Someone is out to take over the Evvy's dad's company and they fired the first salvo when they murdered Evvy's ex-fiance. Now Dawson and his company partners are in a race against time to find out who is trying to frame Evvy and take away her father's company. But with everything going on, because things are changing so quickly, Dawson is unable to protect his heart from a past hurt and that is good. He needs Evvy as much as she needs him. Their chemistry is explosive! So good.

Evangeline Shaw was the daughter of the CEO of a Petrochemical company, in charge of PR for the company… and engaged to man who looked good on paper, but was actually a corporate spy… with her overhearing a plan to cut her father out of the business since he's been chasing a new deal in Nigeria. She called her friend Keely Malone, who called her brother to get Evangeline out of harms way. At Silver Spurs she was assigned to Dawson Hart, a former CID investigator and Texas Ranger… but what will it take to make sure the board of directors was actually for the company and not the people trying to take over… Evie and Dawson must find out who is friend versus foe and make sure stopped… but you must read the story to see what happens… I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.

The Tracker has Corporate espionage, murder, cyber irregularities and a couple who seem to want to out will each other. Evvy’s father’s business is under attack and the course of actions overtime mean trouble with a capital “T”.

Envy is the head of PR and face of PetroChemical, her father’s company. She beautiful, conversational and very photogenic. What people don’t know is she’s smart, strong, determined and meets issues head on.

Dawson is a former Texas Ranger and Army CID officer. A true Dom whose scenes are transactional and this is how he’s agreed to live his life. Little did either of them know their interactions will change the course of their lives.

Happy Reading📖🌻

Evangeline and Dawson’s book was filled with corporate espionage, murder and heat ! This Silver Spur Security read had all our favorite characters doing what they do best : saving the damsel , who actually ends up saving her self ! It’s a scorching hot 2 hour read that will keep you entertained. My only complaint is we didn’t get to see as much of Texas as we usually do in this series, but that’s a personal bias as I’m a Texas woman and love when Delta James gives us glimpses of some of the best places in Texas, such as she did do with mentioning the San Antonio River Walk , maybe we’ll get more next book. 5✨’s . This is definitely an 18+ read due to bdsm and sexual content. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Evangeline finds herself in trouble after she overhears a conversation that her fiancé is going to take over her father’s company once they are married and she will be the fall woman. Asking for help, she finds Dawson an ex Texas Ranger and part of the Silver Spurs Security is now keeping her safe.

Both these characters are strong and even though Evangeline is in danger she has a backbone and is clear headed. Dawson may have a painful past but is the man who you want on your side. Strong and side that allows Evangeline summit and still have her strength.

These two work perfectly in and out of the bedroom. Though it takes Dawson a while to let his past go.

This is Evangeline and Dawson's story. Dawson was in the military in intelligence but was more bodyguard on this one Evy was head of PR but was able to keep her head and figure out what was going on when she overhears her "fiancé" and someone discussing a hostile takeover. It was a good story in that there was action - mostly mental & while it was an insta love, it seemed more like a slow burn in that it didn't overpower the story. The few loose ends that were left hanging is the why of the attempted takeover and where her father was because he was the head but never came back. This one was more interesting in that they seemed more equal. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Evangeline Shaw has it all, but a bullet meant for her leads to her discovery of a spy within the multi-billion-dollar empire her father built from scratch. The last thing Dawson Hart wants is to be protection for a spoiled rich girl, the past taught his that woman like her cannot be trusted. Absolutely fascinating characters who will find out just how well they work and play together. Sizzling hot and entertaining interactions between these compelling characters with fast-paced and engaging dialog as well as some BDSM play kept me engrossed from the first page. Some surprising twists in the plot and a happily ever after make this a must-read and I will happily recommend this book to other readers.

The Tracker is and emotional rollercoaster ride fulle of espionage, murder, suspense charged emotions and chemistry so hot it just might burn down the walls both of the main characters have erected around their hearts. When Evie finds out her fiance is a spy and wants to take over her father company she begins to show everyone she isn't just a pretty face. She starts making copy of internal documents to prove what is going on and her best friend helps her hire security. Dawson is shut off from most people but just can't seem to shut out Evie as they fight corruption, and in house treachery. This book grabs you from page one and doesn't let go until the last page. You will not put it down. It is a quick read.

Heat, Danger and Passion!

It starts with corporate espionage, betrayal and danger. This action packed gripping storyline is such an entertaining read you won’t be able to put it down!

The story gives you a tingle as you get more into each page and feel the sizzle building up slowly between them. Evvy has an inner strength which shines throughout this entertaining read and is a perfect partner for Dawson.

Dawson is hot, he’s sexy, a possessive Dom and all hers!

With lots of possessive alpha vibes, twists and turns around every corner you won’t be disappointed when they get their HEA!

What a cracking story, fast moving, exciting, steamy, page turning. I read this story in one go. Dawson and Evvy make a great couple, both are strong characters and compliment each other so well. Evvy needs help when she stumbles across a hostile takeover attempt in the making, by no other than her fiancé. She’s determined to get to the bottom of this corporate espionage but she’ll need the assistance of outside help, step up Dawson and the rest of the Silver Spur team. Brilliant story that leads you down a few rabbit holes before the truth is revealed.

This was really Evangeline’s story. She became a target of corporate espionage and Dawson, somewhat reluctantly, takes on the task of protecting her and helping figure out who is after her. She provides invaluable help figuring out who is involved and Silver Spur adds their expertise. Through working together on the mystery, Evvy and Dawson begin to open up to each other and find that her need to let go and his need to dominate mesh perfectly. Lots of intrigue, suspense, danger and heat. A really good read.

Evangeline Shaw knew her father saw her as the face to represent Shaw Petrochemical and had given her the job as head of the PR department but never expected her to run the company. She was getting engaged to Peter one of his bright young executives who was more what he wanted for the future of the company. As she slipped out of the room where the Gala was being held she passed a room and heard voices and Peter's voice saying he had come into the company as a corporate spy. She runs to her friend Keeley then a bullet hit the window next to her and Keeley calls her brother the head of Silver Spur Security.

It took the main characters a while, but the could finally see eye-to-eye. Sparks flew before that but not an over abundance. But after. . . There was some good suspense and intrigue in this book, which made me want to quickly turn the pages so I could read what happens next. It was so good. And, the spice was delicious. The FMC and MMC was easy to like. Her character developed nicely throughout the story. His also developed in that he had to let go of some stuff in his past. I loved this story.
