Thank you to HighBridge | HighBridge Audio, the author and NetGalley for an LRC in return for an honest review

Lost Loot gathers 34 tales of hidden riches, legendary outlaws, sunken galleons and royal hoards. Jim Willis explores pirate legends, shipwrecks, outlaw loot and even modern mysteries, showing how the real 'curse' of treasure often lies in obsession, ruin and the myths that outlast the facts.

The audiobook, narrated by Perry Daniels, is steady and clear, giving the stories a documentary feel. I was aware that the print edition includes photos and maps that add useful context to the stories, as my copy was an audiobook I had to make do without this added extra.

This was published in October 2024, a few months after Willis’s death in June, making it his final work. That context adds poignancy: the book is less about treasure itself and more about why humans keep chasing the promise of it.

In the book Lost Loot, author John Willis writes about legendary lost treasures in the Americas. From stories of robberies to ancient curses, this book has it all. Each story is short and the author hits the highlights of the event. Some are familiar and some I had never heard of. Good mix and well researched. I would highly recommend this book. The audio-book narration was good. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A book full of stories, myths and legends of lost riches. There are some ancient curses, hidden dangers and the allure of wealth. Searches include Aztec wealth, Montezuma’s revenge, the Sam Bass Gang,nCaptain Kidd and many more.

Well written and well narrated book (I listened to the audiobook). Lots of bewitching tales about the hunt for lost treasures that may never be found. Lots of information and clarification, all told in an amusing way.

Tales of treasure hunting from a lifelong treasure hunter who reminds you that the true treasure is not in the horde itself but rather the hunt. Filled with intriguing stories of pirates and smugglers based in the North and South American continents. A truly enjoyable read.
