The Hunting Grounds by Charly Cox
Detective Alyssa Wyatt #6
~ Riveting read ~ Couldn’t put it down till the end ~ Excellent addition to the series ~
What I liked:
* Alyssa: police detective, mature, wise, tenacious, excellent leader, team player, loving wife & mother, unflappable, – I like her as a person, admire her and would like her as a friend
* The team: professional, cohesive, supportive, diligent, seem to be normal hard working police detectives that work long hours to solve cases
* FBI Agent Ryker Newlin: assigned to Alyssa’s group to work on an ongoing serial killer case, fits in well, wonder if she will be seen again in the future
* Learning what the trigger was for the serial killer, getting glimpses into his thinking, and being able to thoroughly dislike him and hope that Karma, or the team, will take him down
* The police procedural aspects of the story
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The twists, turns, red herrings, and surprises
* Alyssa’s family: loving, supportive, there for one another
* Hoping that there will be another book in the series
* Being glad that I chose NOT to read this book before I went to sleep and read a short romance so I could start this story in the morning light
* All of it except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about the pain of those killed and the loved ones that deal with their loss
* Wondering what creates monsters that have no remorse for the evil they do
Did I like this book? Yes
