FROM FINLEY, CALIFORNIA, TO VIRGINIA CITY, NEVADA

The series is clean, historical stories that each read as a stand-alone. They all will revolve around a fatherless child and a man who steps up. The story will have some mystery, secrets, and second chances. In the end, it brings happiness to the main characters involved.

The story begins in 1869 in Finley, a few miles out of San Francisco, California. Marly Stanton and her four-year-old daughter, Lila, have been told by the doctor that the best thing for Lila would be to move to a new area. Lila was home with her paternal grandparents when escaped convicts broke in and murdered them. She hid and survived, but the trauma has caused her to stop speaking. A friend of the family suggested contacting her late husband’s cousin and doing a home swap. Crazy as it sounded, John was injured and could no longer work the ranch, but would be happy in the city. Marly was raised on a ranch and could adapt, especially if it would help Lila. Marly has already lost Peter during the war, and with no other family, making a secure life for the two of them is her hope.

A sudden thunderstorm happened when almost to their destination, frightening the horses, who took off, throwing Lila from their wagon, and Marly was trapped, and dragged with the wagon into a raging river—it is a miracle she survived. But what has happened to her daughter? How can she find Lila? How far from the site of the accident was her descent down the river?

Not far from Virginia City, Nevada, there will be ‘the goat man’ on a mission to meet a trader, as they do on a certain day of the month every three months. What a shock for him to stop for the night, and a child wanders into his camp. The little girl won’t talk, but when asked questions, can nod yes or no—so Brady feeds her, tends to her feet, and decides to try and find her people. When he doesn’t, he refuses to just take her and drop her off, and risk her winding up in an orphanage.

Marly is rescued, but it is dark, and she won’t be able to search until the next day or so for Lila. She is directed to see the goat man, who might be able to help track her daughter. Fate will bring them together, and their mutual care/love for Lila will help them plan for the future. What happens when Brady helps Marly find her new ranch? Will he drop her off and head back to his mountain? The story is a page-turning tale of healing, redemption, and second chances with a happy ending.

Fatherless Western Children book 1- Lila

Marly lost her husband in the war and moved in with her in-laws. The in-Laws were killed by some escaped convicts. Marly's daughter Lila seen the whole thing and never spoke again. The Dr. suggested to move somewhere else so she traded her in-laws business to a family that owned a ranch. On the way Marly and Lila became seperated after a storm caused an accident and they lost everything, but for three days she could not find Lila. A man called, the goat man found Lila and he fell in Love with the little girl. This is such a great story of post civil war era, but it is so

Such a sweet story

I just finished reading this amazing book! 🤩 Marly's daughter Lila went through a traumatic experience and lost her voice. Marly hoped a change of scenery would help Lila heal, so they moved to a new place. But on their way, they got into an accident, and Brady found Lila all alone. As Brady spent more time with Lila, he fell in love with her sweet personality. But what happens when Marly and Lila are finally reunited? This book is a quick and engaging read, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great story!

I enjoyed this book! Marly’s daughter Lila had witnessed a horrific event and could no longer speak. She decided to move hoping that a change of scenery would help. On the way, there was an accident and Brady found her walking in the dessert. Brady quickly became attached to Lila. What happens when Marly found Lila? This is an easy read. I highly recommend reading this book!

Brady rescues Lila...

But Lila and Marley rescue him too when they offer Brady a life he never thought possible, a life he thought was lost to him. I LOVE the bond Lila and Brady form, it is heartwarming to see his protective instincts grow and Lila find her voice.
Marley completes this delightful family unit, this is a lovely start to the series, which I read on Kindle Unlimited.

A New Pa For Lila (Fatherless Western Children) Book 1

I liked that this story had adventure and a woman who lived her child enough to keep going even in hard times. Brady was a lonely man who's heart was soften by Lila and her mom Marly. This is a wonderful story that stay with you long after the last page. Margaret Tanner always delivers a great story.

A New Pa for Lila will have you tearing up, so keep the tissues ready. Poor Marley is trying so hard to keep her daughter, Lila safe, but the recent tragedy has left Lila with many issues. So, you sets off to a new location, as the doctor ordered, hoping it will help Lila. More issues along the way will make it worse, but prayers will help and finding Brady is the prize.
