For years, menopause has been like a dirty word. Growing up, it was talked about very little, and when it was, as the author refers to her experience, it was called "The Change." There was no clarity on what that change meant. The older I got, the more I heard people talk about hot flashes, which were often associated with menopause. My grandmother, mother, or aunts never talked about it. I am at the age where I am approaching that stage of life, and wrapping my mind around it has not been easy. I have honestly shied away from it, hoping that maybe by pushing it away as long as I can, I will not have to deal with it until it begins. That is not the best approach and not one I would wish on anyone. That's why this book is so helpful in the preparation for this transition as well as a guide to keep while traversing through this very important period in life.

This book covers the complete period that encompasses a woman's transition to menopause. It covers perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. It offers a good point of reference as to how to recognize what is occurring during these periods within the body as well as within the mind. Menopause has an impact on the totality of the person. I like the way the period is termed a "Journey," as an experiential process, something to be embraced —a period of discovery, not something to be feared or something to be rushed through.

This book serves as a beacon of encouragement and self-empowerment, offering readers valuable insights to understand their bodies while alleviating feelings of isolation during a process that, as the author notes, affects "1.3 million women annually." Such a significant transition demands this level of attention. Instead of providing generic solutions, the book equips readers with practical tools to navigate this change: exercises, thought-provoking questions, and advice on how to raise awareness in workplaces, find supportive communities, and cultivate networks of care, connection, and compassion. It stands as a well-researched, thoughtfully crafted companion guide that extends beyond the author's personal experience to include a variety of voices. The writer acknowledges that each woman's journey is unique, ensuring the content resonates across diverse backgrounds and circumstances. I am always grateful for writers who recognize such crucial needs and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to addressing them.

Bridging Personal Wellness and Professional Insight
As someone who has experienced hot flashes for over 15 years, I found both comfort and encouragement in Oliver’s balanced approach to menopause, especially her emphasis on natural remedies such as phytoestrogens—something I’m now eager to try for myself. The author thoughtfully includes links to a variety of educational materials and even offers a free workbook to help readers take action on what they’ve learned. These extras make it feel like it’s a toolkit. As a consultant, I was particularly encouraged to read about the growing number of employers creating supportive environments for women going through menopause. That’s something I can actively integrate into my consulting work—advocating for workplace policies that acknowledge and address this life stage with empathy and flexibility. Highly recommended.

A must have companion guide for the menopause journey

Such a wonderful read about the journey through menopause. This book offers familiar stories and factual information to help through a phase of life that could have the potential to break and the female spirit. Since not everyone has the same experience, its nice for a perimenopausal lady like myself to read through these pages and perhaps familiarize myself with the experiences of others.

Clear, Supportive, and Real

This isn’t just another health book, it’s personal, practical, and supportive. I loved how honest it was about the hard stuff, without being negative. It offered easy to follow steps and made me feel empowered again. The trackers are brilliant, and the tone made me feel like I had a true guide.

Supportive, nonjudgmental, and genuinely helpful. It’s written with care, and you can tell the authors want to empower readers. There are so many tips, but they’re not thrown at you all at once. The layout is easy to follow, and you can focus on the chapters that matter most to you.

I loved the hormone-balancing sections and the way the authors explained what’s actually happening in the body. It’s rare to find a menopause guide that addresses both physical and emotional symptoms with such grace.
