Situationship; A romantic or sexual relationship that is not considered to be formal or established.

Welcome to the game Jaxon Ryan and I are playing.

In a situationship, just like in baseball, there are

✓In public, you’re friends. Nothing more.

✓If he’s talking to another girl, turn and walk away.

✓Never tell him you want more and most importantly…

Definitely do not think he has actual feelings for you.

It was supposed to be simple.

No feelings.

Just fun.

Strike three for me because I broke every rule and I’m moments from Olivia Rodrigo writing a song about my life.

Even though we keep making the same errors, inning after inning, nobody knows Jaxon like I do. Nobody knows our past. Nobody understands the pressures we have as college athletes. Nobody knows because we vowed never to talk about it and he’d never break a promise, right?

Wrong.

Final rule… Never take your eye off the ball, and never trust anyone.

Bases loaded, bottom of the ninth… Jaxon assumes I’m always going to be waiting for him.

DNF. One star only because he apparently is not attracted to OW and never has sex with her or anyone else other than FMC - even though the reason they broke up was so he can date OP & experience other things. Lol.

Ever read something that just goes on and on and at some point you wonder when the heck it will ever end? Why page after page, chapter after chapter was so repetitive and nothing ever moves the story along? Well, this one was it. I picked this up 'cause I was in a mood for an angsty-type read and blurb mentions that she wouldn't wait around for him but not only is this not the case, but this also reads more like juvenile HS kids then college adults.

So skimming this darn thing, FMC was the most pathetic doormat I ever read. She sacrificed her scruples & dignity to keep him tied to her by coming up with a "situationship" (aka random FB's) when they have known and loved each other since they were kids and dated through HS. They had dated for six years and loved each other but at age 19 when they are in college, FMC got pregnant and 12 weeks later she miscarried. Shortly thereafter he wanted to breakup and experience "life" in college and date OP both because he was pressured by his coach and because he felt a committed relationship to FMC at this time is not right, hence why she came up with the situationship to hold on to him. But then a little time after that he wants to take a clean break and date OP, and he tells her it's not for forever, that they will eventually come back together. And what does she do? Yep, you guessed it. While he is out dating OW, the pathetic loser she is can't move on and continues to take scraps from him & booty calls whenever he feels like it. I never felt more second hand embarrassment for a fictional character then I did with this one🫣. First with her begging and accepting scraps from him, then with her crying and feeling sorry for herself and not even attempting to move on.

DNF'd after few chapters. Not my thing. Absolutely loathe stupid idiotic FMCs who have no backbone or pride, or asshole MMCs. Beginning of chapter, FMC sees him with OW and asks him if he likes OW more than her, if he cares for OW more than her, etc. and these are supposed to be college kids. Lol.

One star only for the fact that he stays celibate.

I am struggling with romance books at the moment. Especially with romances where the heroine will just take any scraps from the hero as long as they stay. It's infuriating and annoying! So this ultimately became a DNF.

Also, the blurb says something about how she wasn't going to wait around for him forever...but that's pretty much what she does (some lame date with some random that goes absolutely nowhere doesn't count). So nope. This didn't work for me. He (Jaxon, the hero) cut things off with her (Camdyn, the heroine) because he wanted to see other people, which he ended up doing. Apparently, he doesn't sleep with anyone else, but I actually found that hard to believe, considering how determined he was about dating, talking to, and seeing other girls.

Anyhoo...it doesn't matter. It was a DNF but I'm not rating it since I didn't get past the halfway mark.

This was such a surprise—even though I was a beta reader. I usually avoid the college love trope, but I trust Shey Stahl’s writing enough to take the leap. And I’m so glad I did.

This isn’t a fluffy campus romance. It’s the story of a love so profound and deeply rooted that the characters themselves don’t yet possess the maturity to fully grasp or hold it. There’s yearning, confusion, emotional truth, and a kind of quiet devastation in the way they orbit each other—never quite finding the right moment to land.

The “other girl” twist is handled with unexpected nuance. It’s avoidance, not betrayal. And that restraint—that realism—is part of what makes Shey’s storytelling so compelling. It’s heartfelt, lived-in, and brimming with unspoken feeling.

Book review

I loved this book. This book tested me so many times because of their current predicament and then I could also be seen wiping my eyes as I got to either a hilarious scene (involving just the main characters or main characters along with side characters) or a heartbreaking moment because this couple after all have a history. This is an angsty romance where the main characters can make you love or hate them and I adored them, flaws and all.

This was a story where not only the main characters dealing with their respective future careers/education but also touched on the importance mental/physical health. We got to see glimpses of their past and what event that could really break them apart...forever.

I just loved this book. I am sending all the good vibes for fingers crossed a future audiobook because I want to go back to this love story asap.

I highly recommend reading this book if you like:

Found family vibes
Both main characters play a sport (mmc baseball player/fmc softball player)
Friends to lovers to friends with benefits
College sports romance
ANGSTY (you will cry, get angry and frustrated, and swoon, and laugh at various parts in just one chapter and then start the cycle again as you progress)
OW drama
Forced proximity
Romcom moments

She's backkkk! Left On Base was well worth the wait! Oh, how I have missed your words, Shey. Jaxon Ryan and Camdyn O'Hara were high-school sweethearts, and now they're 2 college  athletes competing at a D1 level. The pressures building and with some bad advice,  Jaxon turns their relationship into a situationship. Jaxon's a good guy, I know his parents,  and believe  me, he takes after his father Caleb in more ways than one... wink wink.  But when his coach tells him to focus souly on his baseball, he finds that harder than he ever imagined. Camdyn has pressures  of her own, and when the boy she's loved since they were kids breaks her heart, but can't seem to let go, she takes whatever she can get. What an emotional obstacle course this was, gladiator style, filled  with old friends, and new. I yelled, laughed, sighed, cried, cheered, cursed, shook my head, and laughed some more. Just like with every book of Shey's I've read (all of them), it's not just the main characters Jax and Cam I fell in love with. It's the friends like Callie and her boyfriend or her non-boyfriend, Jameson, they're college students, it's confusing (I also know his parents, love them). It's also the utensil obsessed friend who clung to them like dirt in the infield, You know I've gotta be the one to ask. Can we please have Fork Guy's  story? Or at least more of him is someone else's story? I can't  remember  the last time I laughed that hard. This is a book I could read again and again. Bloody brilliant! Thanks for another fantastic read, Shey!

wow

Wow, just wow! Shey you have another hit on your hands! If I could give it 10 stars, I would. Jaxon and Camdyn were amazing together. Best friends from middle school turn to lovers in high school turn to chaos in college. Their relationship is like a roller coaster, because of both of their schedules and the fear of losing what they have. She’s sure of herself, and she waits for him. He thinks he can’t balance everything but finds that he can. The support characters are amazing. Love Jamison and Callie, king and Brynn, and most of all fork guy! They had me laughing so hard I nearly wet myself and crying as well. This book has all the feels that a person can have. Hope there will be more with these characters as they are an absolute scream! I love the way you put your heart in these books and the characters end up feeling like your best friends. More Shey, more!!

When Shey writes a story, you read it. So when I heard she wrote an angsty romance with my favorite sport baseball in it, yes please. Shey has this ability to write main characters that you just connect with, flaws and all. The best kind of stories are when you feel a connection with the characters on the pages as the words flow and their story is told. Camdyn was that character. Her and Jaxon have history. But for now, they're having a situationship with a don't ask, don't tell kind of motto. When feelings get thrown in the mix, all bets are off. With lots of laughs and tears throughout the pages, this was one of those stories I just couldn't put down. Grab yourself a copy and let this one steal your heart... see what I did there? 😉

It was a long book. I read in the afterwords from the author that she felt that the book was long and thought about skipping some chapters and I thought goood yesss skip a lot of them.. BUT now I’m glad the author didn’t skip some chapters because they made sense and they showed sides of mostly Jaxon that you want to see. And they made the story more believable for me anyway.

The story is set in place in college and a lot is happening and it’s some angst, some spice and a lot of thinking from both main characters. I liked the story, it was long but worth it in the end. 🩷

It says "He want her back... She's not coming back" or something like that. I went thru 300 pages and the "she's playing hard to get" never came up. In my culture we say "MIGAJERA" to this kind of women whom still waiting for their awful exboyfriends to come back after they kiss an entire baseball team.
I didn't like any part of it. Sounds like a bunch of High Schoolers, not college people.
1 star just because the guy didn't kiss or sleep with anyone AL LEAST.

Why sooooo looonnnggggggg!

First of all you should know this book is 600+ pages of mostly the mc going back and forth about why they aren’t together and how they wish they could be together. Imo, It could have been reduced to 350-375 pages.

If you are a lover of baseball, this is the book for you. It has a lot of baseball talk and it was just as long as a real game.

Gotta love a great sports book. I did love this one. So much young drama and uncertainty. Life is tough and people pull you in all directions but you have to decide what way to go. When both Jaxon and Camdyn figured that out they knew what direction to go. Loved it.

There is no way Shey Stahl wrote this. It reads nothing like her other books. The way the characters spoke sound so unlike anything she has written. The book just dragged and both mc’s were annoying. What happened Ms Stahl? Really loved your other books but this one? Just nope 👎
