While She Slept: One bed. No boundaries.

Rate this book
One bed. Two bodies.

No boundaries left to cross.

It was supposed to be a simple road trip.

Just me and my stepmom—my dad’s perfect, untouchable wife—sharing miles of highway and a single motel bed.

She fell asleep beside me like it meant nothing.

Curled up warm. Bare skin brushing mine. Breathing softly as if I wasn’t there, as if I wasn’t hard and hungry and already drowning in everything I wasn’t supposed to want.

She didn’t wake when I touched her.

Didn’t stop me when I slipped under the sheets.

And by the time we crossed state lines… I’d already crossed every other one.

She still doesn’t know what I did.

But I’m not sorry.

She was mine.

Even before she woke up.

An underdeveloped story that made no sense. Essentially a DNF though I skimmed the entire thing.

The female lead is the male lead’s stepmom. The stepmom seems to welcome her stepson’s attention though not actively accepting or seducing him. It was just in this weird place where I could not work out how she feels about him.

She has no reaction to sharing a bed with him. In fact she doesn’t really have much of a reaction to anything in the book. She’s supposedly asleep for most of the things that happen in this book and it just didn’t seem realistic.

The book also just ends abruptly. What happens after the trip? No idea.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I didn't think Celeste got any sleep.
