Doctor Who: Lethal Progress

Rate this book
The Doctor takes the TARDIS into the future where many great scientific leaps are taking place. But every new advance has its risks - and some of these risks are deadlier than others.

15.3 Green and Pleasant Planet by Tim Foley - The Doctor and Sarah find themselves exploring an alien world alongside a British space expedition. It's never been visited before... so what's a model village doing on the surface of the planet? Finding the answer may prove deadly.

15.4 The Continuum by John Dorney - The Doctor and Sarah land on the space-station Daedalus on the day it makes history. The first journey through hyperspace has just been completed. But it hasn't gone as smoothly as posterity suggests. Something terrible is happening - and the clock is ticking down.

15.5 The Audience by Lizzie Hopley - A cultural festival on Gakoria should be light relief for the TARDIS crew. But when one of the cast of a play dies, Sarah has to join the troupe. And the Audience on this world are very demanding. Because on this planet... the play's the thing.

Another outing of the fourth Doctor who is an Icon and his voice is a force of Nature. The boxset contains 3 stories, each one is a double episode.

GREEN AND PLEASENT WORLD - in which the Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith become unwanted guests on a shuttle called Britannia which is visiting an new planet and has plans to colonize this world. However unbeknownst to all occupants is the fact that this is psychic planet and it responds to mankind. There is a lot of running and dying involved with a Jonathan Swift kind of mood.

THE CONTINUUM - Mankind is on the edge of hyperspace flight and the Doctor & Sarah Jane pop up on the spacestation from which the flight started. When the flight returns to the station a explosion takes place and the most obvious suspects are the Doctor & Sarah. But something else came back as well. This adventure takes place in realtime.

THE AUDIENCE - The 4th Doctor & Sarah Jane arrive at a cultural festival on the planet Gakoria and are taken prisoner and find themselves between a rock and a hard place. Hearts and minds play a large part in the drama that has taken place and is still taking place.

These three tales shows us a Sarah Jane Smith not played by a Elisabeth Sladen, which would normally annoy me to no end as she and Tom Baker are my first contact with Doctor Who, but Sadie Miller does a decent job.
These three tales are True scifi stories in which the Doctor experiences adventures not in any known historical perspective. Tom Baker is quiet brilliant vocally and probably could recite a phonebook and make it exciting. We can only hope that Big Finish has slowly recorder some extra stories in case this older Doctor can be enjoyed for the future years to Come.
If you enjoy DW These tales are decent fun and do well serve to spending time with Big Finish. These classic Doctor adventures are for me good entertainment and I am glad some of these original Doctors are still around to offer us fun and games.

All these episodes have been recorded during COVID whe all actors recorded their parts at home and not in the studio.

Green and Pleasant Planet: A fine enough 6th Doctor story with the 4th Doctor slotted in. Not the best thing I’ve heard and as with many of these, you can hear how bad Baker’s health has become. But fun enough. 3.5/5

The Continuum: Holy shit this one ruled. I fucking love cosmic horror. 5/5

The Audience: This one is kind of a mixed bag. There was a lot I liked about it. But also a lot I didn’t like. It was interesting. 4/5
