It’s been eight months since Meg Bailey met the man who quickly captured her heart. They’ve exchanged letters, sharing news and daily happenings—all without their families knowing—though neither has been brave enough to put their true feelings to paper. Not when the distance between them seems insurmountable, and their dreams of being reunited continue to elude them.
But Lucas has plans. He’ll do just about anything to be with his beautiful Meg again.
Life out west, however, is never simple. Before their reunion has a chance to unfold, a town-wide robbery at the hands of a notorious gang puts both of them in grave danger. What if the only way to protect the woman he loves is for Lucas to stay far away from her?
Not if Meg has anything to say about it.
—This is a clean and wholesome romance, which means there are no swear words and no sex scenes, though there will be plenty of swoony kisses.

Be Not Afraid by Kacie Taylor is a sweet historical romance, primarily set in 1870s Texas. It is book 3 of Taylor's Bailey Saga.
Lucas is visiting Texas for his sister's wedding when he meets Meg Bailey...and falls instantly in love. Aside from, 'does s/he feel the same as I do?', conflicts in the Christian themed romance are primarily based on external issues. Lucas's business is in Massachusetts, which is his widowed mother's home as well. Meg is a medic and midwife, needed by her family and Texas community. Then his plans to resolve that conflict are threatened by a gang of vicious criminals.
I appreciated Meg's commitment to healing, though it leads her into making a somewhat rash decision at one point. Lucas is strong and willing to sacrifice for those he loves.
The inclusion of more internal conflict would have strengthened the story and I also wondered about the some of the details—for example, the description of the cabin belonging to Meg's brother and sister-in-law. Initially it's called small, then later is described as recently built, having more than one guestroom, a nursery and living room, which wouldn't have been typical of cabins in a frontier setting.
This is a wholesome story, with characters who behave with courage and commitment. The characters' religious beliefs are an integral part of their lives, but expressions of those beliefs usually aren't heavy-handed or distract from the story. I expect readers looking for a sweet historical tale with a happy ending will enjoy Be Not Afraid.
Kacie Taylor’s Be Not Afraid is a historical romance novel. The story revolves around Meg, a medic and midwife, and Lucas. I think the most original aspect of this work lies in the way it weaves a simple romance together with themes of faith, family, and hard work, while also creating a broad story world by keeping the supporting characters vivid and alive. I believe that readers who want to experience the atmosphere of the historical American West alongside clean romance and spiritual values will definitely enjoy this short but intense book.
Enjoyed the 3rd book in The Bailey Saga as much as the other 2, if not more because of the danger and action. Yet another quick, sweet, clean historical western romance with Christian values. I highly recommend this series!
