The group has returned to the Monster Realm. Caleb is dead. But the war is not over yet. With Thana still out there and Ayana taking control of the Realm, the group must tread lightly as to not be labelled traitors and get killed. As everyone gets on with their lives, pretending everything is okay, Callista begins her next strategy to take down the Queen of Monsters. With Monstrum Regni approaching, the 500th anniversary of the Realm's creation, the final battle nears. With past trauma resurfacing and an undercover mission, it's the most exciting adventure yet. Lots of action and intense moments coupled with heartwarming and romantic moments coupled with heartbreaking and terrifying moments. It's everything you could want. Check out the exciting conclusion of this action packed trilogy.
A phenomenal conclusion to a phenomenal series! And what a conclusion!!! Exciting, action-packed, and full of emotion! Following a large cast, Joharra Harper balances the different elements and perspectives perfectly, allowing for amazing insight into the different parts and species of the Monster Realm, history of both characters and the world, and discussion of timely themed like there's many different ways to fight tyranny and there is no part of a revolution or rebellion that is too small.
The various romantic relationships are healthy, fun to read, and easy to root for. Roxallista (Callista & Roxanne), in particular, is a favorite of mine from the book. There are fun tropes explored, such as fake dating and slow burn. It is delightful from the banter to the well-earned ending, including the agony of obstacles such as past trauma and having to watch Roxanne dating other people.
My all time favorite relationship, though, is the friendship between Callista and Reign. They're two of my all time favorite characters anyway. Callista's dark humor, banter, and sarcasm is always fun, but she's so well matched with Reign and the two of them made me laugh out loud! Plus, it is a great dynamic to see a well-established friendship where the two know each other so well, but are reconnecting after some time.
All the characters go through quite the arcs and they've all come so far since our first introductions to them! The individual growth is as fun and satisfying to read as the connections between them all! And I enjoyed the way all the individual threads are woven into the larger plot.
As always with a Joharra Harper book, the battles are epic and exciting and keep you at the edge of your seat, whether it is internal, external, or magical!
Other aspects of this book that I really enjoy include the representation and the nods to the novella series (you don't have to read those to understand what's going on, but it is a lot of fun recognizing the references)!
This is a book that will have you ravenously turning the page for more, keep you up to all hours of the night for "just one more chapter," and keep you invested until the very end!
I'm also really looking forward to everything else Joharra Harper has planned for these characters and this world, including the prequel series and a short story collection!!!
