When the Prince of Nawanagar — Samarth Sinh Solanki first meets Avantika Kumari Raje, he is twelve, a polo prodigy, and already carrying the weight of a crown. She, in contrast, is sunshine in sneakers — a Gwalior princess who bats like a dream and chatters like the wind. Thrown together by fate and a rather stern english teacher, they spend their golden years trading secrets, snacks, and silent glances across schoolyards and stables. Somewhere between shared benches and boundary lines, their childhood friendship flowers into a first love so fierce, it feels fated.

But kingdoms do not run on love alone. When duty comes calling, Samarth takes an oath that will tear them apart. He leaves without warning, without stopping — without knowing that he’s left behind more than just a broken heart.

But life isn’t done throwing its googlies. Continents stretch between them, they cross them. Promises pull them apart, they end up swimming across. In polo fields in Paris and twilight trysts in Tuscany — their hearts know before their minds catch up. But love, once tested, is now tormented. And when tragedy strikes again, Samarth walks away for good. Only, he doesn’t know he has left behind a legacy — not in a palace, but in a quiet cottage tucked away in a valley. A living echo of a promise once made in whispers.

Will the prince-turned-king rise above his silence and reclaim the life that was once his for the taking? Or will the story that began with two teenagers on a wooden bench end with a dynasty lost to its own delusions of duty?

A DUAL POV, GRUMPY X SUNSHINE, COMING OF AGE, SINGLE MOM, SPORTS, ROYAL ROMANCE by the author of 'BEYOND THIS HEAVEN' and 'THE QUEEN OF HEARTS.'

I finished this book in a single day, it was impossible to put down. I can’t believe it’s over; it truly feels like the end of an era. Ever since the first book, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Samarth and Ava’s story, and the author delivered it beautifully. Their journey was everything I hoped for and more deeply emotional, satisfying, and so worth the wait. A truly fitting conclusion.

Have you ever fallen in love with a story you knew absolutely nothing about?

I’m sure many of you have fallen for stories written by your favorite authors or books from a series you've been following for years. But have you ever fallen for a book without knowing a single thing about its previous parts or even the author?

That’s exactly what happened to me recently.

I came across a book titled "A King's Oath" by Bhavini K. Desai, and I was instantly immersed in this beautifully woven story of royalty. The book follows the lives of Samarth Sinh Solanki, the quiet, intelligent prince of Nawanagar, an Apolo prodigy already carrying the weight of a crown, and Avantika Kumari Raje (Ava), a bubbly chatterbox, a ray of sunshine in sneakers, and a princess from Gwalior.

Their journey begins at the age of 12, when they meet in school, and it’s truly heartwarming. You’ll feel pure joy reading about them as kids. It won’t take a single moment for their conversations to capture your heart. From sweet friendship to young love, from not knowing what tomorrow holds to Samarth making a long-term promise to Ava, their bond is magical.

But just after promising her a beautiful life together, Samarth is forced to make sacrifices that will leave you in tears. Their separation for a decade is haunting, and Samarth’s selfless nature will leave a lasting impression. When they reunite around age 25 to 26, this time they plan their future practically and lovingly. Their love blossoms beautifully, but this story is layered with emotional depth, and as life would have it, another tragedy separates them once again.

This time, the separation lasts eight more years, and it's even more heartbreaking. Samarth is shattered, but for Avantika, it’s even harder. She single-handedly shoulders the responsibility of raising their daughter, Brahmi, a child who grows up without the presence of a father.

From age 12 to 34, Samarth and Ava’s journey will make you emotionally vulnerable, but the final sequence of this story will leave you longing for more. You'll never want this culturally rich, emotionally intense, and beautifully layered tale to end. And when little Brahmi enters the picture, she’ll steal your heart in an instant. That’s a promise.

I can’t wait to read more of Bhavini K. Desai’s work and immerse myself in her world again. This story is refreshing, powerful, and not only captures your heart, but also stays with you long after the final page.

Highly recommended.

We met Samarth in Devgarh for the first time, 14 going on 40, his father called him affectionately. We met Avantika, in a mention and not a face on an air strip in Nawanagar and his father called her "Cricketer Ava".

What was supposed to be a passing character turned into the most beautiful journey spanning 22 years. It started at 12, bloomed and blossomed for twenty two years till it reached a happily ever after with the best purple loving addition to their blues and fushia pinks.

Some stories invoke feelings so intense that putting them to words seems inadequate. This was that story.

At its heart, Samarth and Avantika's story was that of growing up and growing out of personal beliefs and looking at the greater justice, the greater good.

It is my personal belief that when someone capable and powerful clings to their personal dharma and refuses to grow, it spells out disasters. Samarth, with his good intentions and burdens of invisible debts, didn't do it on purpose, or with malice.

He took an oath, at fifteen, for his father, and his kingdom and held fast to it. He was freed of the oath, but he stil clung to his dharma and truly, he didn't do that on purpose either. It was the right thing to do, at one point, and at another, it wasn't. Rights turn to wrongs, and wrongs turn to Dharm, as and when time commands it.

That is what this story is about. Time. Changes. Situations. And then, of course, promises.

Because before Samarth took that oath, he also made another promise and Samarth, Prince of Nawanagar, pride of his father's heart, and his Rajmata's son, was nothing if not a man of his word.

He had promised his loyalty and his heart to Avantika and he was going to hold himself to this promise for the rest of his life.

Avantika was a storm, sunshine, softness and strength all wrapped in one, fushia pink loving, full toss hitting package. She walked away from him twice and both times, with something unfinished between them.

But the strength of Avantika Kumari Raje is not in the fact that she walked away, but the fact that she walked back to him, and chose to walk with him.

If it takes strength to make impossible oaths, it takes more strength to live with the repercussions of those impossible oaths, but Ava lived. She thrived. She stood strong as her Vishnu paid debts he didn't owe anyone, and performed penance when no one had punished him. Through it all, through heartbreak, through goodbyes she didn't sign up for, Avantika stood strong.

She had made a promise to him too, afterall. She had promised that once she was his, it will be for a long time. And she took that seriously. For twenty years, as he struggled with his promises, as he did the right things for his family, she was the one thing that was there, even when he thought she had all the right to move on and seek colors elsewhere.

Because if Vishnu is in Tapasya, Laxmi is in Tapasya too. Through trials and tribulations, through promises and heartbreaks, through years of separation, when they came out the other side, their happily ever after looked like the sweetest little girl who loved lavender and talked non stop and a forever written in gold letters.

This might be a late review too for someone who'd began reading it the moment it was released but I was deliberately slower than usual to never have it end. And that's to tell anyone whos reading it yes it's that precious! Even the the tropes given are enough idea, this is a book and storyline I don't think anyone has written about, especially like this before.

It's a Royal tale of childhood love blooming into the everstanding yearning of a lifetime where none of them are at fault except a son who's only known to give and remind us of times of satyug where a man's, a King's words were worth their weight in the world's most precious jewels and more.

Samarth, the innocent boy who never got to be a boy. Avantika, the moment of smiles, shine and longed forevers lost too soon.

They awaken something in you, I've heard and seen enough of the supposed larger than life movies and books and fantasy and all, and wondered if there was something else, something even more extraordinary. Could I feel more than this? This is it. Hitting right home as the author's all books. The characters make you feel happier than you could ever think you were capable of, sadder than humanly possible. You'd trade the world for thrm to exist, their actions actions would make you want to be better, kinder, the light in life they are. And that's such a gift from a writer to readers in a time where "careless" is "cool."

Bhavini writes books and characters that absorb you, make you believe in love, God, divinity! And no, not the mere and frivolous "how amazing and desirable and blah blah this male lead or female lead is" but the kind of love and devotion to not just lover but everyone and everything living and inanimate, the kind that we all think existed only in past and mythology and soul sucking rare stories and tales of immeasurable heart and sacrifice and selflessness, all in love, she writes gods and still retains the the innocence and mischievous to claim they're humans.

There's authenticity to every thought, idea, character, backdrop and scene and serve us the kind of novel we all die to read but find anything like in a lifetime.

You know that constant ache and teary feeling when something at the back of mind refuses to leave you? You'd feel that severly, utterly, hopelessly for these characters and the fact that they don't exist in this world, never will!

And the book and her other ones are India, the authentic, soothing, beautiful one! Fictional characters hold the undeniable power to channelise your best or worst values and change your ideals! And it's applaudable what she write brings out the best, restores faith in all things home, divine and good and love and giving. To the author, know that it's seen, appreciated and very very very much welcome! You write what I've always wanted to read! Keep shining! And I want to spend my life, reading, forgetting and re reading this book, that's all I would love spending my time on this planet doing!

Oh my god 😭😭 this story made me laugh, cry, giggle, kick my feet in the air.

Samarth Sin Solanki
Sam oh! Sam you were everything I thought you would be and so much more. From Sid's '14 going on 40' Kunwar to the King of Nawanagar you Mastered everything being a son, a brother, a Prince, a Polo player and then finally a king. But in some matters as Ava says you were not so bright as they made you out to be. Even then when you realised your blunder you did the work to deserve something that you sacrificed with yourself for repaying the depts you never owned anyone. It was only possible because the was you loved so intense, your loyalty towards your loved ones was something to be treasured.

Avantika Kumari Raje
Ava, if I fell for Sam first, then I fell for you harder🩵 the girl who talks with walla, who has her little poha with lots of sev, who loves design, who smacks the fullshot out of the ground, the woman who walked through the storm alone and come out stronger and wiser.
The things you loved were part of your life and never the your whole life. But that doesn't mean it hurt any less when the boy you loved broke your heart but you kept loving him and making a life for yourself not because you were waiting for him but because when you loved someone you loved them for long time. From the pampered Princess to a successful businesswoman and responsible single mother you had the courage, bravery to do it all and to do it gracefully.

SamxAva
They were such a Gen-Z couple. You could always notice it in their banters even as adults/parents or when they were horny.

Also I am #1 Harsh and Kirti didi shipper they are meant to be sooner or later

the one thing I noticed is whenever Sam had to lie about their relationship he would start using Gen-Z slangs even though he himself doesn't use them regularly.

Bramhi was so cute 🥰 🥰 She was the perfect Purple to thier Blue and Fuscia pink 💙+💗=💜

You know at first I was worried how you will tackle the pregnancy and single mother trope in Dushant Shakuntala's story considering Ava is a Princess but you didi so well and it also seemed believable knowing she wasn't in direct line to the throne

edit : also really excited and praying for Giri's book

I met him first as a 14-year-old boy in a cream jodhpuri, hands behind his back, being his father's shadow. When Samriddhi remarked to Maan -- "He seems like a good boy, mature beyond his age," I didn't know he would grow even more quickly and way beyond his years in the coming months until he would take the weight of a whole family, a whole kingdom, their joys and sorrows on his shoulders. Or maybe I did.

That was Samarth Sinh Solanki -- the polo prodigy, the boy who was 14 going on 40.

He already was a man. And yet, who would bring a boy such as that to manhood?

I did not meet her until way into the next book, until Samarth's father set a hand playfully atop his head and asked about a certain cricketer Ava. Until the air of that tarmac blew with the scent of this girl who was a princess and a badass cricket player. Until only the mention of her name brought this mature, no-nonsense boy to the edges of blushing.

Samarth and Avantika were meant to be a standard Indian Royals couple -- four standard sections, ten chapters each, start and end. Instead, they flourished not in a straight line like a palm tree but like the vines of the bougainvillaea. From the fields of their school in the Himalayan hills to European streets, from stables to stadiums, from a shared bench to a shared oath -- they grew together. Through soft, romantic whispers and the fires where their youths were annihilated -- they held onto themselves.

In short, they took over their own telling and became a tale of coming of age. And in the process, reminded me of that simple lesson that our elders teach us right from the time we learn to listen -- that whatever life throws your way, set your faith in a higher power, chant their name, and keep going.

This book is to reiterate that belief -- to have faith, to cultivate patience, and to keep going. Because when you bring those three together, the final goal is yours.

Oh. my. god. I went through five different emotions in those first 5 chapters that I just knew that this is going to be the most ultimate read among all the three books in the series and I was not wrong.

This book was an EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. From start to end, all 900 pages of it, pure magic.

From Love, Loss, Family, Promises, Separations, Guilt, Regret, Pride, Groveling...
A King's Oath had it all.
I screamed, cursed, cried, laughed at the characters, sat in shock over what I read. Screamed some more, laughed even more.

As the third and last book in the series, there were so many full circle moments. It's like the author heard all are cries for the specific moments and gave them to us in her own way. The Samarth and Tara moments I had been craving since the last book, I got so much more than I expected. Samarth turning into a full-on Mama's boy from Papa's boy (cue the tears).

I don't even know what to say about Avantika or Samarth. These two should be inspirations for today's generation 😂😭 The commitment and loyalty they showed to each other was absolutely commendable. And Ava is so strong. Like so very strong. I don't know how to say anything else without spoiling it. Love her so much though.

Never have I ever felt so CONTENT after a series ended. Craving more of them, but not anything specific because all that I wanted to read, the author had given us that and then some more on top of it.

Anyone reading this, just take my word for this. The writing and storyline are amazing, the characters stay with you, and everything is very fresh and unique and there's no way you won't love it if you read it.

Sharan and Brahmi, I love you. Giriraj Hukum, can't wait for his book 🙏

P.S. - Nowadays, whenever I am eating Poha or curd rice, I am reminded of Samarth and Avantika.
P.P.S - The extended epilogue was a cherry on top and the book playlist is on NEXT LEVEL

Rating 5/5⭐ let's make it a 1000/10 ⭐ cause why not
A story that will make you swoon , cry, frustrated, agitated to the extend you want to pull at somebodys hair , gravitate , levitate and smile through it all and blish like crazy ( yeah that's because of MMC and some other characters as well )
As far as the story is concerned it's a royal love story set up in our very own nawanagar from the previous book of the author the queen of hearts and takes a leap of generation with the kings son samarth sing solanki as the lead a nerdy student and a chatterbox princess avantika kumari raje when helmets meet bougenvillieas, where silence meets chaos wheree devotion meets deity where demons meet duty where two people meet on and off and yet they feel like distant since decades , yes the story does span into decades and it won't bore you rather leave you wanting for more .

The characters have sacrifice courage self respect and moreover maturity not your average hey i should shout , I should beat the shit or I should destroy , they are picture of calmness even at utmost challenging times and feel more than real if thought even in a real life scenario. The author takes you to journey from a changed seating arrangement to changing laws and legacies and that change is complete chefs kiss , the tiny nuances of complementary colours , of shared plates of Indian delicacies and a devoted ride to the holy land of badrinath all wrapped in a warm comforter while a cozyorning but yes it gets pulled time to time , the coldness ,the discomfort of ' why them ' will claw at you and it unravels how human emotions take a toll on a person .

How healing is difficult , how moving on is easier once you forgive yourself and how being on your own ain't that bad if it comes with your self respect intact .
As much the MMC will be loved and hated by readers in equal measures you won't be able to stay angry on him .
And the FMC she is my personal love , self dependant , selfless , courageous , bold and fearless at the same time shy , picture of elegance , forgiveness and clarity in her thoughts is bound to leave you speechless , the prior characters in the series of books so come into play and a major part of the book also is in and around there decisions and promises which hold much more significance when it's a royal household .
The value of family or lack thereof is also addressed and how it shapes a mind is visible in characters over the time , the mention of poha on sev , buttermilk , hostel made noddles, hostel days homesickness and growing away from home the yearning for family when away is also a part of the story which I feel many are going to resonate with especially is the hostel students would feel , we are being seen .

The author has done a commendable job into makeing the uncomfortable topics or rather the unspoken topics to be raised in a fictional palatable way where reality becomes more digestible than it ever had , the cover of the book is what catches your eyes first and trust me it's one of the most beautiful covers to be designed .
Okey enough of me yapping about the book and more of you reading it .

Also sneakily telling you the smut here is too good 😶‍🌫️

I just love this book. I don’t think so I’ll get over it anytime soon. One of the best reads in a really long time.

Samarth and Avantika, met in school then fell in love. Due to Samarth’s oath, they had to go their separate ways but both decided to not get married to anyone ever but fate had other plans. They met again after 10 years when Ava was going to Paris for her job and Sam for his polo match. Their love rekindled and when they decided that they can’t stay away and will get married after taking to Samarth’s parents where he will tell them that he will set his eyes on Sharan’s throne and will live far away from Nawanagar. Again fate played and news came of Rawal’s death, again Samarth decided to serve the throne but never married and give it to sharan when he will get of age and all this he pushed ava away again without knowing she is pregnant with his child. When they got to know Rawal is actually alive, he couldn’t go back to Ava. After 8 years, he again met her in Loire with a cute little girl on her hip and his world turned upside down. That was the starting of their happily ever after.

I have nothing but cried through his book. It was angry on Samarth’s part but I think it’s hard to understand what kings had to think about or go through for their people and their family and also Samarth’s urge to pay back the debts which weren’t even his. In all Ava suffered the most. But I think I commend their loyalty to each other and their parents. I loved this book even though it made it cry a lot.

Second favourite book after the heaven series (no one above janab and his ghalib).
Unlike most readers, I actually do like second chance romance books, so I was quite excited for this one.

✨✨✨✨✨
Things I loved:

- The awkwardness between Sam and Ava when they are starting and restarting their relationship. Very realistic.

- As an atheist, I love the religious elements in the story, very meaningful.

- The playlist.

- As always, the nicknames.

- Brahmi. She is the main character and i will fight whoever will say otherwise.

- Giriraj. If Bhavini is not writing a book on him, someone at least writes a fanfic or something, please.

🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣
Things I didn't like:

- I love Samarth, he is great, but he didn't grovel enough for what ALL he did and Ava should not have forgiven and forgotten so easily.

- I've had this issue in some previous books or some part of other books of Bhavini that it goes slow and then suddenly fast paced, and something similar happened here, everything was happening in years, and then suddenly within 2-3 months, Samarth met Ava and Brahmi, Samarth and Avantika reconciled, got married and suddenly all was happily ever after.

I remember finishing the previous book of this series in tears.
How Tara took back the oath and made Samarth Singh Solanki the rightful heir.
Best ending ever.
Then came this one.
The one where I am fangirling over fictional characters written by this awesome woman Bhavini.
Samarth Singh Solanki, kis mitti ke bane ho tum? kaha se mein apne liye lekar aau? and why are you so infuriating? Those up and downs almost made me throw the book down and just be done.
I have slammed by kindle at least five times while reading. UNBELIEVABLE
Avantika Raje, ufff, the royal I connected with the most. How real she is, the heartbreak, the agony, the willpower to not bend and to make this man grovel! 🙇🏻‍♂️
The chemistry between Sam and Ava was zingy, felt like zapping the air whenever I was reading.
I was honestly a bit skeptical about the high school romance trope, but the way it was written was so beautiful, did not feel weird about it at all. And the foundation of their romance was set so strongly that when the push and pull came in, you could feel their yearning, understand their plight. It was too good.
Deserves all the stars I can give for this book. Give it a read at any chance you get.
Ps - finished this book within 24 hours (coz I'm that dedicated) hehe

I chanced upon this one as KU recommendation and I was mesmerised by the sweet romance of Samarth and Ava.. How beautifully their friendship and budding romance was built... it gave me nostalgia of school days where there were love stories being written in-between the classes, group studies and exams. Bhavini's writing impressed me so much that I was able to imagine the scenes, smiles with cute dimples, that smirk and all the fun. It made a lovely weekend read with a 'happily ever after' end.

Although I picked up and the final book of 'The Royals' series first, I would be definitely reading the other two books where stories of Siddharth- Tara and Maan-Samriddhi are woven.

Sometimes, while we think we are making a decision only for our own selves, the repercussions of it might be borne more by those who love us, rather than our own self.

While the book might initially feel like just another romantic story, it is so much more than that. It is a meditation on sacrifices, duties, and what it actually means to 'be there for others.' And just like every other book in this series, 'A King's Oath' also end on a rather happy note, as opposed to the original book (about Dushyant and Shakuntala), making it all the more enticing for a re-read.

Just finished reading this and trust me when I say Samarth Sinh Solanki is an absolute gem. Could relate to him in so many ways but what I loved the most was Tara's action. Her actions may not have made sense in her book but the character development she gets in this is amazing and it all just blends so well in this one. Loved it 🤌

Really loved the book, just had 2 problems with it-
1. Why didn't the FMC make him grovel like seriously he put her through so much shit and still she kept taking him back within seconds.
2. The length could be cut short, 900+ pages was unnecessary.

the book covers everything from excitement of first young love to a love tested by time and separation. how i cried when Rawal came back, when Rajmata took care of our boy, and when the lovers got separated. twice. I was mad at Samarth for putting Ava through this. but it wasn't in his hands. being a reader, I can understand what he went through. torn between duty and love, that man made sacrifices which were not even his to make. BUT....
but how can Ava forgive him so easily. would Sam have pursued Ava if Brahmi was not in the picture? he just came, spent 2 days with the girls, and they are a happy family now? did he understand all the mental and physical pain, pain of heartbreak, pain of being (basically) thrown out of her own home, and all the other things that Ava went through these 8 years? I know there is no scale to compare 2 people's pain. I wish Bhavini had added 50 more pages and made Sam earn Ava's forgiveness.
still this book is a '5 star' book for me. all of her characters feels so close to my heart. and the music. thank you for introducing me to such great Gujrati music.
