This is a great read for Christian folks! I’m certain that others would enjoy it too … but for folks who’ve been reading the Bible and trying to live their lives following the teachings of Christ, it takes on a whole new meaning. It’s a relatively easy read … short, well written, and easy to follow. The analogies and phrasings had me sometimes re-reading several times because they were so poetic. That said, I’ll give a brief overview without adding spoilers.
The author had a dream about heaven. This book outlines that dream. It is a fictional “what-if” about his experiences after he died and found himself at a cabin in the middle of a beautiful forest. Fiction. Keep that in mind. Based on a dream. Also keep in mind.
When it comes to eternal life, I often wondered myself about the whole “time” thing. And each of us probably have different perspectives on what heaven might look like. But what is front-and-center in this particular novel is the idea that God has given us all particular talents on this earth. Garwood shares his “take” on how those talents might play into a bigger picture … how they are just earthly preparations for a much more important end-game. In his particular case, his family has the gift of music. This book uses that as its premise. Read it to enjoy his thoughts on how musical talents might end up possibly helping God to fight off his biggest opponent…Lucifer!
If you are a traditionalist, you might have a hard time reading this. I beg you to read it as a fiction without trying to pick apart every minute detail. It’s a fun read! But most of all, in my opinion, ‘Going Home’ is a very encouraging look at how families come together “on the other side”, defeat the bonds of “time”, and discover just how important their “clan” is!
This is book 1 in a series. But something I personally enjoy in series writings is when each book stands on its own. It doesn’t leave you hanging … making you wait on part 2. The book has an end to its story.
