The Meeting Ground is a charming, quietly heartfelt story about two people whose lives collide at the exact moment they both need a little grounding. Ash, with her care‑worker’s compassion and her amateur‑musical sparkle, feels instantly real — someone who gives so much of herself without ever quite expecting anything back. Joe, on the other hand, is all sharp edges and celebrity gloss, a man spiralling so fast he can’t see the damage until he’s forced to stop.

Their worlds meet in the most unglamorous of places: a rehab clinic garden, where Ash is reluctantly running a gardening club and Joe is very much not thrilled to be there. The beauty of the novel lies in how gently their connection grows. There’s no grand epiphany, no sweeping romance — just two people learning to be honest with themselves while tending to something fragile and green. The garden becomes a kind of shared language, a space where Joe’s bravado softens and Ash’s quiet resilience shines.

Across those two months, the story balances humour, vulnerability, and a slow, believable warmth. Joe’s impending departure hangs over everything, giving their bond a bittersweet edge, but the novel never loses sight of its hopefulness. It’s about second chances, unexpected companionship, and the small, steady ways people can change each other simply by showing up.

A tender, uplifting read with a lovely sense of place and two characters you can’t help rooting for.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy of this book for an honest review.
I was absolutely drawn into Ash and Joe’s story. For the first few chapters before our main characters meeting the book was slightly hard to get into but after they had met, I devoured the rest of the novel. The character development in this book was amazing not only for our main characters but also our side characters the reader was able to get into their headspace with the narrative style which really humanized and made believable the complexity of each relationship. I loved the slow-burn way the relationship between our main characters developed into romantic interest between them, though I would have loved to see some in book romantic scenes of the two together at the end of the book. Moreover, even though this book deals with dark themes, the depiction was done tactfully, and I feel displayed an accurate experience of someone undergoing a depressive episode. Overall, this was a wonderful read exploring themes of healing, compassion and love.
