But when a baby’s cry on his doorstep cuts through the argument, neither of them walks away.
On the wild frontier, secrets don’t stay buried. And the only thing more dangerous than the truth is what it might cost them to feel again.
When dusk settled on all she’d fled, He didn’t offer promises—just space to breathe. And maybe, just maybe, That was how love began.

Estelle escapes her father's clutches as he is about to pawn her off to a fat old(financially rich) old man, and c winds up in El Paso at the ranch of Jay Weston, a man scarred early in life by a fire. He carries mental scars as well, from being taunted as a child nnd called a monster. He mostly stays to himself but then Estelle arrives thinking he has advertised for a wife. It was his sister who placed the ad & he was not happy. As they were arguing about it, a baby's cry is heard & they find a newborn left on his doorstep. He hires Estelle as a nanny & housekeeper. Throughout the book, reference is made to "everything that's going on, and to "getting things sorted" (we don't "sort things" in Texas, we. fix them)! Lol It was an interesting read, but I had to wonder if AI produced it. It's not like other Lydia Olsen books I've read.
Jay and Estelle met because of his sister's meddling by placing an ad for a bride without Jay's knowledge. But her timing couldn't have been better when an infant not was found on Jay's porch. Estelle immediately became his caretaker. As "parents" they grew closer and eventually became friends and a family. After a scare involving the birth father they faced the fact that they had fallen in love, much to his sister's joy. This is a story of finding out that love can see past scars, the ones you can see and the ones you can't. This book was a great plot with strong characters. I highly recommend it.
Really great story about a young lady being mistreated by her adoptive father, locking her in a coal bin. She managed to escape, fled to a friends house, who helped her become a mail order bride. Upon arriving, the suppose bride groom was not interested, since his sister had arranged all of this. Just the beginning of n adventure filled story, enjoy.
This is old sort about Jay a man with scars and Estelle who traveled to marry but Jay did not want a wife but someone left a baby boy on the doorstep They have problems with the biological father The characters are realistic and find happiness A good read
There was something about this story that didn't draw me in as much as most do. Maybe because her adoptive parents didn't hunt for her, or that it seemed like baby Noah was only being fed once or twice a day. But it was a story with a good ending!
Such a lovely story. Estelle runs away to find out what she was going to wasn't there. Jay was a backward rancher because of things in his past. You must about that goes on in this book. A must read
Estelle’s father told her found someone for to marry….he was 50 years old, very large and smelly… When Estelle refused to marry this man her father threw her into the cellar…She was pulling on an old door trying to escape… This is a Great Story ❤️
After running away orphan Estelle was determined to start her life over. From Charleston to El Paso Texas Estelle was going to find the happiness she deserved!!
Really good plot and characters. It's a fast read and has a good ending that ties up the loose strings. Another interesting book by Lydua Olsen, one of my favorite authors.
