If you are looking for an ideal gift for your teacher at school or church, I loved reading MOMENTS OF GRACE FOR TEACHERS.
Each chapter begins with a moving quotation followed by a short inspirational story from bestselling authors Carol Kent and Vicki Caruana. Each chapter ends with a relevant Scripture.
Carol Kent wrote the introduction and the first chapter, then Vicki Caruana wrote every other chapter. Sprinkled throughout are contributions from other teachers. This book has a beautifully designed cover and is a book which your teacher will cherish, read and re-read. I highly recommend this book.
I thought this would be like the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books. Nope! Not so much. Instead of the focus being an assortment of inspirational stories, they are just short little stories of people's experiences teaching. There are a few inspirational stories, but most were just a bit funny, discussed students coming back to thank the teacher for her dedication, or they felt more like advice for teachers.
When I first started reading this, I was disappointed that it didn't feel more like "Chicken Soup for the Soul." As I read more, the book grew on me. It wasn't what I expected, but it did have some great stories. There were a few that I could do without, but overall it was an enjoyable read.
As I mentioned earlier, these are really short stories. There are 50 of them. I didn't time all of them, but I did time seven of them. One took less than a minute and a half to read. Five took between a minute and a half and two and a half minutes to read. The last took almost three minutes to read. Yes, that's a little nerdy to time myself reading them, but it gives other readers an idea of how short these stories really are.
The good news is that this whole book is clean. You won't find any swearing, graphic sexual content, or violence. Several stories talk about poverty. One story talks about someone trying to commit suicide, and another talks about a teacher talking about abstinence instead of focusing on "safe sex." This is marketed as being for Christians. While each story has a scripture verse at the end, many of them didn't feel clearly Christian.
