I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. I really liked it, it was hard to put down. Val and Grandad investigate a murder that may or may not be related to another death. I recommend it.

My Thoughts......
What a cute, somewhat humorous with a love interest and even getting a good mystery read. I found the characters mostly well developed [even the dog Ibis] giving the read a easy cozy read. I especially like how this heroine Koris went after what she wanting to always know about how this investigation was going from her boyfriend Zach who just happened to be a cop. I liked how I wasn't able to figure out who the murderer was until the very end of this entertaining mystery read. I will say that the recipes and all the food that was discussed in this read will definitely leave your mouth watering for it and leaving the reader with many baking ideas.
I'm not a regular reader of cozy mysteries. They tend to be a bit simplistic, without enough suspense for my taste. Indeed, I found that to be the case with this story. However, I picked this book due to it's holiday theme as one of my December reads. Going into the story with adjusted expectations allowed me to enjoy the story for what it was. It was a nostalgic look at the holiday celebrations in a small town in Colorado. Despite the murder mystery, this was a light hearted read where the owner of The Blue Bird Cafe is the amateur sleuth. The murder of her delivery guy puts the owner Kori right in the middle of the investigaton. Kori is determined to enjoy the holiday celebrations around town, while at the same time investigating the murder. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a holiday cozy mystery.
This is the 6th book in the Early Bird Cafe Cozy mystery series and the first one that I have read of this series and author. If you like Leighann Dobbs (Lexi Baker series) or Joann Fluke (Hannah Swensen mysteries), you will probably like this series. All 3 of these have the same pattern: the protagonist is either a baker or cook in a restaurant and have a good looking cop boyfriend/husband. All 3 are told NOT to get involved in the murder case, but of course, they do. BF or husband has to come to rescue. The only difference in these 3 is that in the Hannah books, there is a love triangle. I did like this book, even if I did figure out the killer 2/3 of the way through. It is an easy read which was exactly what I needed.
Cute and well written. Can't say that I find any of the characters particularly well fleshed out. Story line weak and not very exciting. Probably will steer clear of this author from now on.
I was looking for a fun mystery to read and I found it in this book. Read other stories from this author. And enjoy them.So I knew this was the book for me.
I liked this book much more than any of the previous ones. The series is an easy and light read, but this my favorite so far for the series. Onto the next one!
