It was supposed to be a vacation. Woodsman and wildlife tracker Tye Caine and his girlfriend Kaity were looking forward to some relaxation in the Alaska backcountry. But they can’t escape the trouble that follows them, and soon they find themselves in a harrowing struggle to survive.
Old mysteries come back to haunt them, and new threats emerge. It will take all of their skills and a bit of luck to survive at Spirit Lake.
Another cracking instalment in the Tye Caine series. This time we get to see Kaity in full bad-ass mode and she is just as impressive as the guys in her life! An unexpected reveal explains a little of the why she is so and it's thoroughly enjoyable to watch her go through her paces. The occasional other familiar character turns up as the story moves itself along while the long-form arc that has carried through all six books so far gets more development. An ending that may have been a little jarring had it not been handled so well stays in character and tone with the rest of the series while bringing some well-deserved rewards to Tye and Kaity. As usual with this author the settings are wonderfully evocative without being overdone and the story line is solid. Highly recommended and can't wait for the next one to hit the shelves!
Each book in this series has gotten better and better. The storyline is enticing and keeps you engrossed. Barber is obviously extremely knowledgeable about wilderness skills and living, and has a great skill of developing suspense and intrigue. His character development is thorough and natural. The addition of the mystical elements just ties everything together and makes the Tye Caine novels the complete package. I look forward to the next novel with great anticipation! If you are new to the series, read them all and start at the beginning, its definitely worth it!
This is a page turner, I read it all in one sitting. LOL I just couldn't put it down. There were a couple of minor holes in the plot but not enough to turn me off. The most annoying thing for me was the overuse of "I reckon." There had to be at least 100 of that phrase in the book. Literally, it was almost on every page. It was used by the main character and his buddy constantly. I would have given the book 5 stars because it really is a good read but that "I reckon" just got to me and ended up distracting me with the constant use of it. I do recommend the book because the story is fascinating and I liked knowing more about outdoor living/survival.
David out did himself again! Loved the plot and how close and trusting the characters are with each other. Ruby, the pilot, was a great addition. Well done!
I seriously love this series. I cannot wait for the next book to come out! I hope we get to have a little more May in the next book and to meet their baby. Also I can’t believe how little time has passed since the first book. Only ONE YEAR!? Love it though
