We do talk about it : Breaking the Silence on Sex, Shame, and Redemption

Rate this book
We were told not to talk about it.

Not about the body count. Not about the abortion. Not about the sexual assault.

Not about the hookup culture, the church hurt, or the shame that clings like a second skin.

But what if silence is doing more harm than good?

We Do Talk About It is a raw, redemptive collection of stories from the frontlines of ministry—where sexual trauma meets God’s healing grace. Heather Lawless, founder of Reliance Ministries, has sat across from women wrecked by their choices, haunted by their past, and crushed under the weight of cultural lies about sex, identity, and worth. She’s also lived it.

This book isn’t polished. It’s honest. It’s the kind of book that opens up the conversation the Church has avoided for far too long—about purity culture, pornography, body shame, and the ache for love that leads so many down destructive paths.

But more than that, We Do Talk About It is a

Shame doesn’t get the final word. Jesus does.

If you’ve ever felt like your story was too messy, too broken, or too much to be redeemed—this book is for you. It’s time to talk about it. And it’s time to heal.

I'm choosing not to rate this book because it contains fragments of the author's personal real life story, and it's not my place to rate someone's life story.

HOWEVER... I cannot recommend this book enough. I need everyone to read this book. Older teenagers, Women, Men, Elderly. This is SUCH a needed narrative in churches.

I heard Heather speak at a conference recently and that's where I first learned about this book. I had the book downloaded before I left the room, and I had the book completed a few days later. It's only 120ish pages on Kindle and I'm telling you, it will bless you.

Even if you've never experienced sexual trauma firsthand, I can guarantee that you know someone who has. Knowing how to talk to those people is EVERYTHING.

HIGHLY recommend this book. ❤️

This book is a must read!! This book covers the heavy stuff in life but Heather Lawless talks about it in such a beautiful way! She doesn’t make you feel ashamed or unwanted; she shows how God loves you no matter what your story is. That he is just waiting for you with his arms wide open! This book has so many stories that relate to almost every situation in life that is considered unredeemable but Heather makes you feel normal and that no one is perfect. She remind us that God helps the broken and the messy! I will recommend this book to everyone I meet! It’s a 10/10!
