Sumaira Hameed's writing style is polished and well-balanced, a fact I first noticed in Yaaram. Character relationships and development is without question her forte. What I admire particularly about her stories is the portrayal of the struggles her characters go through. The depiction is realistic but always with a positive message at the end. Good stories teach good things and while I'm open to learning valuable moral lessons, I feel sometimes writers go a little overboard with that. Same goes with our desi romance. Urdu novels are primarily socio-romantic so it's madness to not expect it but what I loved about this book was that both of these elements were perfectly incorporated.

I do have one problem, though. There was a big fallout near the end (there always is) and yet the patching-up of things didn't make any sense. It happened a little too fast for me. A certain character did a complete 180 which I didn't like and another one didn't get proper closure.

I adore Sumaira Hameed's way with words, but I have to say, this novel left me feeling like I was navigating a confusing maze—was this really her work? It read like a typical Pakistani drama with a plot that was flatter than a roti! The character development was like a bad haircut—Ufaq was passable, but Edin felt as weak as my Wi-Fi signal during a storm. And Farzaam? Sumaira tried her best to portray him as mature, but his dialogues with Ufaq sounded like they were scribbled by a teenager trying to impress a crush, and with his mother, he came off as a mamma's boy (WHY IS HE A MMC SUMAIRA?😭). Honestly, this book has thrown me into a reading slump so deep!

I did enjoy Ufaq (to some extent), but then there's Maria—with her rough path of illegal affairs and multiple abortions, I couldn't understand why she still ended up with a happy ending (I’m sorry 🥲). I'm glad for her *huh*, but it's hard for me to feel genuine happiness when considering what Sumaira did with Edin's character. Let me make one thing clear: I still don't understand Edin's character; she mishandled him, but even though I dislike him, his ending was more disturbing than realizing you overslept for an important class.

Don't even get me started on the portrayal of female leads in Urdu novels; they're always these ultra-beautiful, fair-skinned, colored-eyed goddesses who are pursued for their beauty, only to have their admirers villainized (no, not talking about that pervy Ghulam Ali, of course).

Honestly, if this had been written by another author, I'd give it a 1-star rating without hesitation, but out of respect for Sumaira's literary contributions, I'll begrudgingly give it 2 stars. It's a mixed bag, for sure!

After the huge disappointment that Yaaram was, I don't know why I expected this one to be any better.
The only thing about Sumaira Hameed I like, is her writing style. Other than that, the plot wasn't outstanding, the characters were either very good or very bad. I wanted it to be good :/

3 stars only for Sumaira hameed's splendid writing, The story is typical socio-romantic, predictable yet engaging but the character development which writer took so smoothly throughout, fell terribly in the end, some developments were too abrupt and didn't made sense and some didn't develop at all, ending was satisfying, yet not!
Recommended for sumaira's writing, which made me read it in a day!

سمیرا حمید کو بس پڑھتے جائیں اور سر دھنتے جائیں۔
اس کہانی کو پہلی مرتبہ نویں یا دسویں جماعت میں پڑھا تھا غالبا۔ یوں تو اچھی کہانیاں مجھے یاد رہتی ہیں لیکن اس کے متعلق بس یہ یاد رہا کہ سویٹ سی کہانی تھی افق اور فرزام کی۔
ایک زمانہ تھا جب قریبا کوئی دن یا کم از کم ہفتہ تو ضرور ہی کسی کتاب پڑھنے سے خالی نا جاتا تھا۔ لیکن اب۔۔۔ اب میں ذہن میں پڑھنے والی کتب کی لمبی فہرست تیار کرتی رہتی ہوں لیکن بس پھر حسرت سے کتب میری اور میں انکی سنگت کا انتظار کرتے صبح و شام کے پھیرے دیکھتے الجھے بکھرے کاموں کو سلجھانے کی سعی لاحاصل کرتے رہتے ہیں۔
کتنے عرصے بعد یوں کوئی کتاب لے کر پڑھنے بیٹھی اور بس پھر بیٹھ ہی گئی۔ تمام کاموں کو نو لفٹ کا سگنل دیا اور ہر تھوڑی دیر بعد خود سے "یار یہ بندی کتنا پیارا لکھتی ہیں۔" کہتے کہتے بالاخر ختم کر کے ہی اٹھی۔ باوجود کہانی کا اختتام جاننے کے ہر نازک موڑ پہ میرا دل ویسے ہی زوروں سے دھڑکا جیسے پہلی مرتبہ پڑھنے پہ ہو۔
سمیرہ کا ہر نیا ناول پڑھنے کے بعد ان سے از سرو نو محبت ہوتی ہے۔
اتنی پیاری کہانی ہے یہ، اتنی پیاری کہ بس!
اتنے پیارے کردار ہیں اسکے، اتنے پیارے کہ بس!
کہانی کا آغاز کچھ سرد اور بے باک سا ہے۔ عدن اور ماریہ کی کہانی۔ کاروباری مفاد کے ستونوں پہ کھڑے رشتوں پہ ہر وقت اندیشوں کا لرزا طاری رہتا ہے، آزمائش کی ذرا سی ہوا اسے پوری قوت سے مسمار کرکے واپسی کا ہر رستہ بند کردیتی ہے۔ فیصلوں میں خود کفیل اور ہر من چاہی چیز ہاتھ بڑھا کے پالینے والے لوگ جب اچانک بے بسی کے شکنجے میں جکڑے جائیں تو انہیں خدا یاد آ ہی جاتا ہے۔
کہانی کا رخ پھر افق اور امان کی جانب مڑتا یے۔ نماز کے بعد مانگی دعاوں جیسی افق کو محبت ہوجاتی ہے۔
دوسری طرف آپ فرزام اور رومی کی کہانی دیکھیں گے۔ ہیرے جیسے دل کے حامل فرزام کو رومی کی اسیری بھا جاتی ہے۔
افق اور فرزام دونوں کو اپنی اپنی محبتیں راس نہیں آتیں۔ ٹوٹے دل اور مسکرا کے ہمہ وقت ماضی کو بھلانے میں کوشاں دو لوگ یونہی اتفاقا (دنیا میں کچھ اتفاقا نہی ہوتا) ٹکرا جاتے ہیں۔ پھر؟ پھر آپ کتاب پڑھ لیں جی۔
افق، فرزام، ان دونوں کے گھر والے سب کے سب کیسے پیارے لوگ تھے۔ شدید پیاری کہانی۔
سمیرہ کو لفظ عطا ہوتے ہیں۔ انکے لفظ صفحات پہ نہیں دل پہ اترتے ہیں۔ اس ناول میں انہوں نے کوئی مشکل باتیں نہیں لکھیں۔ سادہ سادہ چھوٹے چھوٹے فقرے۔ کوئی فلسفہ نہیں۔ آپکی اور میری زبان میں باتیں کرتی گئیں جی۔ ہم سنتے گئے جی۔ اسیر ہوتے گئے۔
سیکھنے کی کیا کیا باتیں تھیں؟ سب بتادوں؟ پڑھ لیجئے۔ بہت پتے کی باتیں سیکھ جائیں گے۔

انسان کے پاس بہت پیسہ ہونا چاہئے, اتنا زیادہ کہ اسے کسی سے عزت بچا کر بھاگنے کی ضروت نہ رہے ۔ "خود کو روندے جانے کے لئیے تیار نہ ہو " یہ سبــق یاد رکھ کر کمانا چاہيے زندگی میں صرف جینا ہی نہیں آنا چاہیے, بھاگنا , دوڑنا، تیرنا سب آنا چاہیے - صرف کھانا اور سونا ہی نہیں آنا چاہیے زندگی کے پیروں میں جو لوہے کی زنجیریں لپٹی ہیں انہیں کھولنا بھی آنا چاہیے- زندگی جب موت بننے لگے تو اس موت سے سانسیں کھیںج لینا آنا چاہیے -

محبت من محرم ایک لو سٹوری ہے لیکن مجھے یہ اس سے کہیں زیادہ لگی اس کی بڑی وجہ اس ناول کی رائیٹر ہیں جہنوں نے کہانی کے دوران یہ محسوس ہی نہیں ہونے دیا کہ یہ صرف ایک لو سٹوری پر مبنی کتاب ہے-
سمیرا حميدٌ کے لکھنے کا انداز بلا شبہ کافی منفرد سا ہے جس سے یہ محسوس ہی نہیں ہوا کہ یہ ایک عام محبت کی کہانی ہے-

یہ کہانی ہے غربت کی جس میں بتایا گیا ہے کہ کاغز کے چند ٹکڑے ویسے تو زندگی کے ہر مقام پر اہمیت کے حامل ہیں لیکن بعض اوقات یہ اتنی اہمیت اختيار کر جاتے ہیں کہ انسان کو اپنی عزت نفس کا سودا بھی کرنا پڑے تو وہ کر گزرتا ہے - غربت بعض اوقات انسان سے اس کا انسان ہونا ہی چھین لیتی ہے -

یہ کہانی ہے بے وفأی کرنے والوں کی کہ جنہوں نے چھوڑ جانا ہوتا ہے وہ اپنا ظرف دکھا ہی جاتے ہیں اور جنہوں نے نبھانا ہوتا ہے وہ ہر حال میں نبھاتے ہیں
یہ کہانی ہے افق اور فرزام کی
یہ کہانی ہے عدن اور ماریا کی

یہ کہانی ہے ایک ایسی بہادر لڑکی کی جس نے زمانے کے ہر سرد و گرم کو اکیلا جھیل کر اپنے آپ کو پا لیا اپنا مقام جان لیا , جس نی اپنی محنت سے یہ ثابت کر دیا کہ انسان کا غریب پیدا ہونا برا نہیں لیکن غربت میں ساری عمر گزار دینا برا ہے
کہانی کے بیج بیچ میں ایسے موٹیویشنل جملے استعمال کیے گئے ہیں جو highlight کرنے پر مجبور کر دیتے ہیں
کہانی بظاہر عام ہے لیکن چونکہ رائیٹر سمیرا حميدٌ ہیں تو آپ اندازہ لگا ہی سکتے ہیں اسکی خاصیت کا یہ ناول ہر انسان کو ضرور ہی پڑھنا چاہیے بہت کچھ سیکھنے کو ملے گا۔

"Mohabbat Man Mehram" is a beautiful story of Love, friendship, and faith. Story start's with the character of Ufaq & Aman. Aman is a doctor by profession has ego & attitude, He when meet with an accident passes time on calling randoms girls & meet with Ufaq. Ufaq is a beautiful girl. She work hard for his family. Her shoulders was buried under the responsibilities. When she met with Aman she started falling for his love. But soon betrayed by him. One day he stopped calling her. One day when her mother got heart attack. She run to Aman for help. At that moment she came to know about the truth by his father that his name is 'Adan' Not Aman & has the habit of playing with girls hearts. Ufaq heart shattered into pieces that day. Adan didn't believe in the power of Dua (prayers). But Ufaq always guide him to believe in the power of Dua. Every Dua made by Ufaq always came true.

After few months Farzaam entered into the life of an Ufaq. He & his mother both were good ppl by heart. When Ufaq joined their small business it soon touched the sky. Farzaam purposed Ufaq for marriage & she said Yes. They both shared their broken past to each other. But deep down in their hearts both were broken by past. But Farzaam was trying hard to move on. Along with that Ufaq's bond with Farzaam became more deep. Suddenly a news flashes infront of Ufaq's eyes that Adan was in police custody in the durg case, All evidences were against him. Ufaq became num & immidiately called his lawyer. Lawyer knew that it was Ufaq of Adan. Adan mentioned the lawyer about her & her magic of Dua's. He shared the address of Ufaq to the lawyer with the hope & intructed him to ask help from Ufaq. But she rejected the call after knowing.Once again the clouds of past started surrounding the present of Farzaam & Ufaq. Whom he will choose his wife or his ex? What will happen next? What decision they both will take?

I love the character of Farzaam. He is the best friend & good husband. He helped Ufaq in education. Supported her in her studies & taught him all her subjects. He is the one who encouraged her to join the university & explore the life. He is the perfect defination of soulmate. Ufaq's life painted with the love of Farzaam. They both are now became my favourite couple. Ufaq's character taught me the magic of Dua' & in the power of faith in Almighty.

"عورت کو کچھ نہ کچھ اپنے لیے بھی بچا لینا چاہیے، لیکن ہم محبت کے نام پے سارے پر ہی جلا دیتے ہیں۔ "

مُجھے یہ سطر بہت خوبصورت لگی، کیونکہ واقعی ایسا ہی ہے، ہم عورتوں میں اللہ نے بےلوث محبت ایسے کوٹ کوٹ کر بھر دی ہے کہ ہم اپنے سے جُڑے ہر رشتے پہ قُربان ہو جانا چاہتے ہیں۔

"مُحبت من محرم " کہانی ہے اُفق کی، سیپ میں چُھپے ایسے موتی کی جو وقت کے ساتھ مظبوط ہونا سیکھ گئی، اور ایسے انسان میں میں تبدیل ہو گئی جو کُچھ سال پہلے والی اُفق سے زیادہ سمجھدار اور زیادہ بہتر ہے۔

یہ کہانی ہے عدن اور رومی کی جو دولت اور شہرت کے لیے کی گئی کنٹریکٹ میرج ہے ، ان کے رشتے میں احساس، عزت اور محبت نام کی کوئی چیز موجود نہیں ہے۔

اور پھر باری آتی ہے فرزام کی، یو کے سے واپس پاکستان آکے انارکلی کے کسی محلے میں گھر لینے والے فرزام اور مسز گوہر آسمان سے زمین پے آجانے کی بہترین مثالُ ہیں۔

کہانی کا ہر کردار مسلسل جدوجہد کر رہا ہے، افق اپنے گھر کے حالات بہتر کرنا چاہتی ہے تو فرزام اور مسز گوہر اپنے بزنس کو کامیاب کرنے کی کوشش میں ہیں، وہیں عدن اور رومی پیسے اور دکھاوے کے لیے ایک دوسرے کو برداشت کرنے کی کوشش میں لگے ہیں ، اور یوں ہر کوئی اپنی ہی جنگ لڑ رہا ہے۔

سمیرا حمید بہت اچھے سے جانتی ہیں کے قارئین کو کس کردار سے محبت کروانی ہے اور کس سے نفرت، اور پھر کےسے اس کردار کے لیے قارئین کے دلُ میں رحم ڈالنا ہے۔

میرے لیے کُچھ واقعات ضروت سے زیادہ جلدی رونما ہو رہے تھے میں اُن کے لیے تیار نہیں تھی مثال کے طور پے عدن نے جو بھے قدم اُٹھاے افق کے گھر آنے کے اور فرزام کے آفس جانے کے۔

میں بہت کُچھ لکھنا چاہتی ہوں اس کتاب کے بارے میں لیکن چاہتی ہوں آپ یہ کتاب ضرور پڑھیں پھر ہم اس پر مل کے ایک اچھی بہث کریں گے۔

Since Yaaram, I've loved Sumaira's writing style and it worked like a charm here too.
The first almost 80 pages, Adan and Maria's story, were not that gripping to me, but as soon as Ufaq's plot started and almost 100 pages into the book Farzaam's story started, I could not put the book down. Read it from the start of Farzaam's track to the end of the book in a day.
While I loved the story, A LOT, the ending was so rushed that it has not left me satisfied. Didn't do justice To Farzaam and Ufaq at ALL. The sudden shift in Farzaam in the last pages didn't make sense. Also, I think the author ruined Farzaam's character a bit in the end, because there was no need of making him go sleep in Rumi's guest room. He was doing way worse than what he was accusing Ufaq of (even though his accusations made sense from his POV).
Nevertheless, the book was worth it. Loved the character development of Ufaq and Farzaam, the ending that Tanya got, and loved Farzaam's mother's character.

I’ve always loved Sumaira Ahmed’s writing n I enjoyed every bit of this novel. It was so interesting.

Ufaq’s struggle was honestly really hard to read.
I loved Farzaam’s character so much. He was a perfect blend of jolliness and maturity.

The characters I disliked the most were definitely Tania and Romi.

Adan felt like a grey character and Maria was actually pretty bad but she still ended up with such a good life. One thing that confused me though her kids ..were they adopted or or were they her husband’s children?

And omg the Lahore Street scenes I laughed so hard especially when Farzaam got irritated 🤣

This novel is good read but some parts of it are problematic or dragged.Adan’s character is not clearly built or delveloped in a way that at inital phase of story he is intensely in love with ufaq but suddenly he forgets everything to marry maria.This character is weird something.Ufaq’s track is very interesting her bussiness development is motivating.This novel is below the level of yaram by the same writer.As i have read yaram so my expectations were too much from this one too but i must say i am bit disappointed.

ماریہ اک بگڑی  ہوئی امیر زادی ہے۔ ماریہ كے باپ کا دوست دولت كے لالچ میں اپنے بیٹے ، عدن کی شادی ماریہ سے کرواتا ہے۔

عدن ایک ڈاکٹر ہے جسے ہر راہ چلتی لڑکی پسند آ جاتی ہے لیکن اِس بار وہ افق سے واقعی محبت کر بیٹھا ہے۔عدن کا تعلق اک مڈل کلاس گھرانے نے سے ہے۔

افق اک غریب گھر کی لڑکی ہے جو اپنی والدہ اور دو چھوٹے بھائیوں كے ساتھ رہتی ہے۔  والد کی وفات كے بعد ان سب لوگوں کو کام کر كے گزارا کرنا پر رہا ہے .

فرزام بہت محنتی لڑکا ہے . اپنی ماں كے ساتھ پاکستان شفٹ ہوا ہے اور اب اسکی ماں اور اس نے مل کر اک boutique  شروع کی ہے.

سمیرہ حمید کا انداز تحریر ہمیشہ سے مختلف رہا ہے۔ (انہیں اور بھی بہت سارے ناولز لکھنے چاہئیں )
" محبت من محرم " بھی اک مختلف سی کہانی تھی۔ ناول شروع کیا تو مجھے واقعی کچھ سمجھ نہیں عجیب سی لگی لیکن تقریباً 30 % کہانی پڑ کر کچھ سمجھ آنا شروع ہوا۔ کچھ لوگ کبھی نہیں  سدھرتے اور کچھ لوگ بڑے بڑے  گناہ کر كے بھی توبہ کر لیتے ہیں ، جیسے اللہ چاہے ۔ کہانی مجھے اچھی لگی . آپکو بھی پڑھنی چاہ

Beautiful! Impeccable writing! Usually, when I pick a book once again, I try to skip some parts focusing mostly on what I liked about the book. For this story, I tried to read as fast as I could but did not succeed much for it is too compelling to read every word of it at your ease. A type of stories that I enjoy reading; no matter how much the characters struggle and suffer, the ending is always happy and satisfying. I had mixed feelings for Adan; sometimes I felt sorry for him and sometimes I thought he deserved that miserable ending. It is a typical story in some ways, almost all the Urdu stories I've read have the same rising and falling of events. What makes each story quite different is how the writer conveys it and twists it in his style of writing and plot building.
