Explorer's Revenge

Rate this book
The first time I met Venture’s latest team, I was a nobody, but it only took one crazy stunt to change my life and turn my idols into enemies…

Five years later, I’m at the top of my game, competing with the best of the best. My stunts are bigger and better, so much so that even Venture’s golden boys have begun to take notice.

When we are all offered the same contract to find a legendary island, we must vie to be the first to the finish line. The jungle, however, can’t be controlled or predicated, and when things go wrong, all you have is yourself and those around you.

When Mother Nature decides it’s time to reclaim her land, you either get out of her way or sink into the torrent, never to be seen again.

Here we go, right into the storm.

4-stars for the jungle exploration and the beastly, people eating crocodile.

2-stars for the romance and characters. They just didn’t really work for me.

The h was too big of a martyr and always sacrificing herself for the guys. Blah. Sorry, but I want to see them doing all they can to protect her. She does too much of the heavy lifting. The characters acted way younger than they were. Wilder is 36 but the way he bickered with the FMC was super cringey. The constant quips from some of the other guys during intense scenes took away from the danger and suspenseful vibes. The one dude was way too vulnerable for me, he cried way more than the h! Way was too sappy. I just needed everyone to be way more alpha but I’m not sure that this authors current writing trends line up with my personal tastes.

Basically it’s a fun book with poor romantic execution. I wouldn’t have cared if all of them got eaten in the end.

Overall: 2.5 because she did a really good job with those cave scenes!! Super suspenseful. All the fun bits reminded me of those great made for tv sfi fi channel movies.

4.4 stars.
This was totally entertaining. It was such a slow burn that I honestly questioned whether it was a standalone half a dozen times. They don’t even cross paths until almost a quarter of the way through and then it’s a bunch of action before they finally start acting differently towards each other.
Haven’t read…was it ‘Diver’s Heart’? Something like that, by this author since it came out, but this one reminds me of that one a lot. There was even mention of divers trapped at the beginning of the book that I thought for a second was reference to it before things started happening that nixed the idea.
Anyway.
I couldn’t put it down. Even though it felt like the romance took a back seat to the action and I’m not usually very happy with that, I really enjoyed the pacing when paired with such well written action and adventure.
And their relationships came together in the end in a pretty solid way.
It wasn’t what I was expecting at all, but I really enjoyed reading it.

“The men in the room shift uncomfortably at our rugged appearances-tattoos. Piercings, tan skin, and worn hands-compared to their silken unblemished richness. I smirk knowing they wish they looked like us, all hard edges and muscles but only because it suits our needs…

Every inch of us is carefully crafted, not for aesthetics or pleasure but for work. The plus size of it is it creates envy in men and lust in women.”

Dear lord please deliver me from this kind of awful cocky MPOV nonsense. 😂 #arealmachoman

Explorer's Revenge by KA. Knight
5/5⭐
2,5/5🌶️

This book stands out from others I’ve read, and I loved it! While romance doesn’t take center stage until about 70-80% in, the action and adventure shine. It’s all about how these characters survive together in a horrible situation, and I found myself completely absorbed. I literally couldn’t put it down! My heart raced with every page turn, half curious and half nervous about what was going to happen next. What a thrilling read—it kept me on the edge of my seat!

Maeve is an awesome character—confident, fearless, and always seeking adventure. She used to travel the world with her dad, but after he was diagnosed with an illness, she’s been exploring solo. Then there are the Adreno Guys—Wilder, Logan, Aiyaret, Way, and Rick—who have been together on many adventures. When Maeve starts working in the same company as them, things get a little competitive. One day, their boss sends them on a quest to find a lost city, and excitement builds. Little do they know, a monster awaits them on that island!

I loved all the characters! Each one is unique with their quirks and vulnerabilities, which makes them relatable. The tension between Wilder and Maeve was off the charts, and their banter was entertaining. It was heartwarming to see how they supported and protected each other throughout the journey. The bond between the Adreno Guys is so touching, and I adored how they looked out for Maeve. She’s not just the damsel in distress; she’s also ready to sacrifice herself and protect the guys!

Overall, this book was such a fun and thrilling adventure! I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy action, adventure, suspense, family dynamics, and romance (yes, there are some spicy scenes). You’ll likely find it hard to put the book down, just like I did! It was a fantastic read, and the ending was so satisfying! I’m left wanting more of their adventures, but I’m also content with how it wrapped up.

This book has me hooked from the very beginning. Such an adventure! This book gets five stars on vibes alone. It’s a lot of fun. It’s like Indiana Jones with SyFy channel plot.

This starts out as rivals to lovers with Mauve and the Adreno boys working for the same Adventure (?) company, fighting for the same praise as top explorer. The boys and Mauve all are hired for a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore a newly discovered island. The kicker is that neither knows the other is there, and once they arrive the creepiness begins. This is a slow burn romance, and at times I was wondering how this would progress considering it’s a standalone book, but it worked out well. There’s some good character growth as well, with a side couple in this poly relationship that tugs at the heartstrings.

The journey through this remote jungle was fun and a lot of times pretty tense. For all that’s packed into this relatively short story, I thought it was done well. All the stars simply because the story is just a blast to read.

Why Choose MMMFMM
Action Adventure
Rivals To Lovers
Forced Proximity
Fun Characters
SyFy Vibes
Slow Burn

~Explorer's Revenge~K.A. Knight~

“We are never going to be this world’s norm,” I murmur, “and that’s okay. We just have to find people who are the same . . . the ones not afraid to take risks.”

♡Katie you served with this book & I ate up every last bit! The love you portrayed between every single character in this story was a masterpiece that brought tears to my eyes! This book had me feeling every emotion right alongside each character. I cried, I laughed, & I melted. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, the banter was top-tier, the action left me speechless, & the slow burn spice was well worth the wait! I can not wait for everyone to read this raw, emotional & twisty rollercoaster.♡

“I let her leave her mark on me, a physical one, since she’s already left a mental one. “ 😩😍

Explorer’s Revenge is K.A. Knight’s newest why choose romance that follows Maeve and her 5 guys as they travel through a jungle in search of a lost island.

I absolutely loved how badass and reckless Maeve was. The larger and scarier the stunt, the more excited she would get to do them. Gotta give her a huge round of applause for not being scared to constantly risk her life because I know I could never 😭

I also loved how close all the guys were to each other. They all had some trauma that haunted them, but together they got through it. Even though they initially didn’t want Maeve to be a part of their group, I love how they still ended up loving and protecting her throughout their journey.

Thank you so much WordSmith Publicity for the ARC! ❤️

“You’re so beautiful, Maeve Carter, more beautiful than any monument or world wonder I have ever seen. We’ve been to every unexplored corner of the world, searching for something beautiful, but nothing rivals you.”

This book had me gripped from the start. So full of action, I couldn't put it down. Think Indiana Jones vs. Tomb Raider with a sprinkle of Jurassic Park. You never know what's just around the corner or what's coming, and it kept me so engaged - I need more adventures for this group of characters!!

Maeve is just perfect for these men, knowing exactly what each guy needs at the time, and these men are just what she needs after exploring the world solo for so long. Their chemistry is great, banter is top-notch and just one of the best found family stories I have read for a while. And did I mention the action?! I love a great action story, and this was hitting all the spots for me!

If any of the above has your interest piqued, I definitely recommend!

🎶 “There's blood on the side of the mountain. There's writing all over the wall. Shadows of us are still dancin'. In every room and every hall.” 🎶

Five years after a daring stunt turned her idols into enemies, she’s risen to the top of the extreme sports world, her name rivaling even Venture’s golden team. When they’re all offered the same contract to uncover a legendary island, rivalry turns into a dangerous race through unforgiving jungle terrain. But as Mother Nature unleashes her fury, survival means more than just skill - it means trusting the very people she was never supposed to forgive.

—*•.¸♡ ★·.·☾ ゚。´THOUGHTS゚☁︎。`·.·★ ♡¸.•*⋆—

It was heavy on the plot and less focused on romance development. Don’t get me wrong, they got their happy ending, but the romance felt sped up because they were trauma bonded, forced to rely on each other to survive, and naturally got attached. Maeve was a total badass who saved them more times than I can count. She constantly put herself in dangerous situations to protect them. She even left, got rescued, and came back for them. Logan losing his leg… HURT, but he thrived afterward with the support of his family. P.S., I wish there had been more emphasis on the fact that he met Maeve first and she never recognized him. They didn’t really connect on an emotional level before his injury, and it made her later attachment feel a bit rushed.

[Aiyaret]

“Fuck others. I don’t care about them. I care about you. This was a big deal, so of course I’m proud of you. I want you to be happy, Aiyaret.”

“I want you to be able to live the life you want.”

“It was just a conversation,” I remind him.

“Yes, but tomorrow, it could be a meeting, and the next, it could be a hangout. The time after, who knows?” He nudges my shoulder. “I want you to be happy, brother.”

Maeve and Aiy were special to me because she was gentle and patient with his boundaries. She recognized that he typically felt uncomfortable around women because of something in his past, and she was mindful of her movements so she would not trigger him. She never pushed him into a place where he would feel uncomfortable. Still, for the first time, he wanted her touch, and he felt comfortable enough to push himself a little more. When she was taken by the creature, he was the one who went after her first while the others were still debating their next plan. He did not hesitate - he went after her immediately because he trusted that the others would follow him. That moment was so sweet, and I loved how he got to be a lover boy in his own way. On top of that, I loved his development with Way. It added another layer to his growth and made his character even more meaningful to me.

[Way]

“I’ll tie her to me,” Way offers. “I’m the strongest. I can get her up there.”

“I’ll be fine,” she promises.

“No, you won’t,” Way says, his voice soft. “It’s okay to need our help.” He looks at me and then at her. “Let me do this.”

Maeve is so independent that she struggled to accept help, but she had no problem putting her life on the line to protect Wilder, Way, Logan, and Aiyaret. They were already a close-knit group who had been treating her like an outsider before they connected, but in this situation they were forced to forge a truce, build trust quickly, and form attachments born out of pure survival and the fear that they might not make it out alive. They put everything into their final stand so that Maeve could make it out and fulfill her promise to her dad of staying alive. But she could not just move on after that. She went back, because that stretch of fighting together changed the trajectory of all their lives. They could no longer exist as casual acquaintances - they were bound together now. Through that trial, they formed a quick attachment and an instinctive need to protect her.

—*•.¸♡ ★·.·☾ ゚。´OVERALL゚☁︎。`·.·★ ♡¸.•*⋆—

This book was so interesting, and the Diver’s Heart mention boosted my heart rate. I absolutely loved it and only wish it had been a duet, so we could have gotten a more gradual romantic development between all of them. That would have allowed for a more equal distribution of love, which I think the story really deserved.

Ate this bitch UP!! I kinda want ten more books with adventurers and RH…KATIEEEEEE

I was on the edge of my seat the whole book. The tension, the mystery, the fear Katie builds in us and in her characters. We never know when the next surprise, the next scare, the next scream might come from. I was 43% in when I texted my friend, and she described my explanation of what was going on as 'it’s giving Indiana Jones meets Jurassic Park,' and you know what? If you add five Indiana Jones and one bad ass Maeve, you get this book...but a little (a lot) spicier.

I truly loved how the story moved, how it gave time to the plot, to the backstory of every single character, the island itself, their previous encounters, how we could see them building something even when the very ground beneath their feet was shaking. I loved the individual connection Maeve had with all the boys. She could be herself and express herself with everyone, and not only did they love her together, but they loved each other. The best kind of found family ever.

I truly enjoyed every aspect of this book, from the action to the romance to the aftermath. Katie, you've done it again...I'm obsessed with ANOTHERONE of your books!!

Thank you, Courtney and Katie, for this e-arc. I'm trying to be cool, but the fact that I get to ARC read this book means so much to me; it's invaluable.

Quotes:

I force my eyes open so I can see her picture, needing to see her when I come.

Whether the battles are mental or physical, I am in awe of everyone who wakes up each day, no matter what they are going through, and survives it.

This world would be a boring place without Maeve Carter, and the idea that she could die here terrifies me more than that creature we faced.

"Fuck, I'd give anything for you to make that fucking noise again."
"Make me,"

I can't even remember a kiss that wasn't hers. Maeve Carter has ruined me.

"(…) I refuse to die until I've tasted Maeve Carter."

"We're not going anywhere, no matter what happens."

I'll keep them safe no matter what.

One of us will die here, and it won't be me.
I have too much to live for.

"(…) You make me feel alive, Carter, and I don't think I can go back to a life before you."

It rips me apart because she's right. I wanted her all
along, and now she's mine.

"(…) Adventurers spend our lives chasing highs, but none have ever compared to touching you. You are my greatest thrill."

"I'm in love with you, Maeve Carter. I have been for a long fucking time. My heart belongs to you, and so does my family. Do with them what you will, just don't leave."

When I eat her later, I want to taste us mixed together.

2.5 🌶️
4 ⭐️

I am now 3 for 3 in reading K.A. Knight books in one sitting!

This book was adventurous, suspenseful, emotional, and of course, a little spicy 🌶️

Okay, so, Maeve. Our FMC was a certified badass who proved she had every right to do the job she was hired for and save the boys while she was at it. I mean, the girl literally stitched herself back up with a bra wire and a shoe lace. Could not be me. Also, Maeve’s relationship with her father made me so emotional, and his eventual relationship with the guys had me actually crying by the end.

Now for the boys..

Rick and Logan were cuties but to be honest there wasn’t a whole lot that separated them in my mind. I appreciated that Rick was the only one who clearly liked her before and I loved when he was like “I’m your stalker”. HOWEVER, every other chapter from these two I was constantly going back to check whose POV I was reading.

Way and Aiy were my favorites because I NEED my book boyfriends to be also boyfriends with each other. I loved how Way supported Aiy and was so quietly there to support him through all of his trauma. They were everything. The lack of jealousy when it came to Maeve was so refreshing and Aiy having a dominant streak when he finally got to be with her?? Yes please.

Now finally, my main man, Wilder. I must admit I love a broody, protective, leader of the pack. The way he selflessly protected his family to the point he was going to sacrifice all of his own feelings for Maeve? *swoons* BUT I am glad Aiy paved the way for the others to open up to her, especially Wilder, because I was absolutely LIVING for their chemistry and tension.

The relationship the boys had with each other, and the way they respected each other’s privacy with Maeve that allowed each of their relationships to grow in unique ways was just perfect.

I do wish the book was a little bit longer to allow for some more development of their individual relationships and a look into their group dynamics. The epilogue felt really short and of course I would have loved some teamwork/group activities if you know what I mean 👀

WOW! OK well I think I might have a new favorite book from this author! Explorer's Revenge just hit the ground running and did not let up until the end. I loved the characters, I loved the danger, and I could not stop reading this one.

I love Maeve and how strong and resilient she is - I would have curled up 10 minutes into this expedition lol. I also loved her relationship with her dad, I thought it was so touching and bittersweet with where they were.

And the guys! OK I really loved all the guys. There are a bunch of different personalities - I loved Wilder, loved their antics, I adored Aij and how he brought out a softer side of everyone. I just love found family, and this hit in all the right feels. I feel like KA Knight did an amazing job wrangling all these guys together and adding Maeve to the mix and having them have to work together to survive.

I also really love that there wasn't over the top romance and sexy times while fighting for their lives LOL. There was a really great slow burn to all of this, where the danger and adventure is in the spotlight for the majority of the book, until all 6 are safely off the island. And that island? Terrifying! OK I at first wondered I this was going to be like The Ruins, lol which it's not, but it's still crazy dangerous. A couple moments I thought were verging on the edge of *too* over the top? But it made for un-put-down-able reading!

(I still say that she needs lube in her mm scenes)

I adore the last third of this book - the polycule settling into a more normal daily life and getting to really know each other and connect. I just really, really loved this one.

I was sent a PR box from the author, my thoughts are my own.

Explorer’s Revenge - K.A. Knight

5/5⭐️

📚📚📚
I don’t think K.A. Knight could ever write a bad why choose romance! Because once again I consumed this at such a fast rate and I’m just OBSESSED!! Maeve was an absolute baddie from the start and all of our MMCs I was just drooling over by the end! The imagery I was eating up while reading. Literally pictured it all out like a movie playing in my head. While reading this one is filled with suspense and action and let’s just say a few points took me by surprise. I was voicing how i felt to my kindle 😅 The spice was done so perfectly and don’t ask me to pick a favorite cause I love them all too! Without giving too much away, I highly recommend grabbing this one!!

This book gave Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones (but with five Indy’s instead of one) vibes in all the best ways. There’s so much action and adventure paired up with a creepy “something is watching us” thriller while also including a sappy, sweet (and spicy) romance.

I love Maeve! She’s fierce, confident, kind, and a total Bad——!! She doesn’t shy away from the tough stuff, in fact she’s more of a dive head first kind of person and her fearlessness really pays off a few times in this story. The Adreno Squad were definitely more than I anticipated. They have a camaraderie between each other that is admirable. The love, trust and support really shine thru, and the way they understand and accept each other was beautiful; each of them in tune with the other in a way that is only possible between people who genuinely care for one another.

It was a lot of fun to read. The journey thru the jungle was filled with twists and turns that had me holding my breath, and when the characters eventually cross paths their banter had me laughing so hard. But the light hearted fun times only last so long during their trek. Everyone knows an ancient Lost City is usually lost because something keeps it from being found. Something ancient, and terrifying. The challenges and terrors that await them on their journey test our characters over and over again forcing them to face stuff about themselves they hadn’t yet faced but with some very pleasant results.

ARC REVIEW

I’m convinced Katie sneaks some kind of literary crack into her books because I have yet to read one I didn’t inhale like a gremlin on a deadline. I’d be lying if I said this didn’t make me want to immediately re-read Diver’s Heart and let’s be real, it’s 100% happening before the year ends.

Now I hate being that person, but I genuinely don’t know how to talk about this without spoiling every damn thing. So here’s what I can say, THE MEN. Logan and Rick fully had me kicking my feet and giggling, but honestly, I was obsessed with the whole crew. And Maeve? Literal goddess. She has a job I’d only dream of doing if I ever grew the kind of balls she has.

This book had me in a constant state of “holy shit what now?” The suspense? Unrelenting. The world-building? Immersive as hell. And don’t even get me started on the moment I almost crashed TF out (I won’t say why… just trust me). Katie is some kind of sorceress because not only does she write the most elite fictional men, but her talent for spice, tension, and emotional chaos is genuinely supernatural. Read it. You’ll see.

"Well someone has to save your damsel asses."

And that quote is the book and this kick ass FMC in a nutshell. Go Maeve!

Explorer's Revenge is Diver's Heart adjacent with passing mention of the diving team as part of the same world. It feels similar in a wild, fearless and exciting way. Maeve is an untamed adventurer through and through. She explores alone and faces every challenge with skill, confidence and determination. When she is sent to a remote island to find a lost city, the last thing she is expecting to encounter is a mystery (hungry!) monster and her arch nemesis, Wilder, and his exploring team of MMCs.

This group are thrown into a gripping survival narrative that sees them bonding through injury, desperation, and fear. Maeve and her boys, Wilder, Merrick, Aiyaret, Logan and Way, explore a surprisingly emotional connection forged through adversity. And in this unconventional slowburn why choose I was surprised that I didn't even realise there was no spice till 78% in as I was so hooked by these characters. And I loved that the love extended beyond just Maeve and the men. Aiyaret is such a gorgeous part of the story and he deserves his HEA.

Exciting and gripping slowburn why choose adventure romance

This was such a cool book to read! If you like wild adventure and OMG OMG nail biting moments, along with some slowwww burn for more than one person then you should definitely check out this book! The adventure is definitely the star of this show with romance taking a back seat until much later in the book. However the action, trauma bonding and getting over that pesky hatred for some or secret longing for others leads to some serious slow burn build up. Also Maeve is a total bada$$ and the guys well they aren’t bad either 😉 This is an enemies/rivals to lovers, why choose, action packed adventure, slow burn, with a side of cursed island. Sam said this was totally different than anything she’s read and she was totally right! Definitely worth jumping into this adventure!

What a fantastic standalone! Katie always delivers such entertaining, heart pounding, edge of your seat reads and this one definitely ticks those boxes and more! We have an RH with enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn and so much more. These characters are phenomenal, Maeve, Logan, Way, Wilder , Rick and Ayiaret are really well done , I loved the diverse personalities. This storyline is unique to me. I've never read anything with this kind of plot and I loved it! Adrenaline filled, tension riddled and wholly entertaining. I read this in one sitting, I could not put it down, it was such a great read. Well written and well paced, I found the flow really matched the story well . I am always excited to dive into every book Katie treats us with.

YES!!!!! This has been one of my most anticipated reads from the moment I saw Katie was doing another book connected to the Divers heart world; which is one of my favourite books!! Slight obsession. Anyway, I had high expectations for this book. It didn’t disappoint guys 😫 it’s SO damn good. I needed the thrills and the fast pace. It’s like a bloody thriller 🤣 it had me shook at times like fuck, fuck, FUCK!!! RUN!!! 😂 SWIM!!! 🫣 if you loved Diver’s heart like me then you’ll love this one too.

This is enemies to lovers with forced proximity 😍 oh & reverse harem 🔥 Maeve is the FMC, she is epic!! Had me bursting out with laughter, she is an absolute badass who can hold her own, she tackles everything head on, always throwing herself into the firing line to protect those she loves, without thinking about her own safety. She is fearless.

Katie please tell me there are more to come?! I’m thinking, Antarctica 🥶 with killer polar bears! Or penguins 🤷🏻‍♀️ oh perhaps the dessert 🥵 with a giant killer scorpion 🤪 - we have lots of different Biomes to explore yet… right? 👀😂.

Survivors

This story took me for a ride and boy did I enjoy it. The first chapter had me locked in all the way to the end. The adventures and things that the characters endured was awful but talk about found family who sticks together. Maeve was made for the boys and them for her. All of the characters were selfless and I loved how they took care of each other. Mental health and trauma was covered very well by the author. I loved Aiy healing process and how everyone treated him. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys why choose and mm books. I gave this book 5 stars because even when I wasn’t reading my thoughts were always on the characters.

This book had me in my emotions! I was crying, laughing and wishing it didn’t have to end, but the end, Oh my God!! Perfect! Personally, Logan and Way were my favorite characters. I just love those two so much. K.A. Knight can write some good stories and amazing characters, but she really did her big one with this one!!! I loved Den of Vipers, I loved Divers Hearts and I love Revolt, but sadly they have now moved down my favorites list, well except Den of Vipers (Sorry, I love my Kenzo too much).

This book had me screaming, crying and kicking my feet so many times…but man was it worth it! Maeve is a crazy dare devil who does wild and crazy shit for a living all while having fun rivalry with the “Adreno Guys”. When a once in a lifetime opportunity comes along all 6 head off to a deserted island to find a lost city but end up finding so much more. Thrilling and pulse pounding action takes over and edge of your seat moments are pouring from every page. Will they all make it out alive and if so, will they do it together??? Absolutely fantastic read!

HOOKED! 😍

As soon as I read the first page, I knew it was going to be a book that gripped me. I loved the whole explorer side to the story, and Katie knew how to keep us is suspense. It was gripping, entertaining, I laughed out loud a couple of times. It was everything I needed.

My only wish, and it’s not even a criticism……. I wanted more.

She done such a good plot, and I was invested. I wanted more exploring just because I’m a sucker for that type of thing.

Thank you for a great read Katie! 💚

Arc Review!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Holy Moly!!! That was an adventure that was for sure!!

I was not expecting what happened in this book at all. This kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was nervous for what was going to happen next!!

I was crying for them, routing for them, I was scared for them and eventually happy for them, I literally felt it all!!

Maeve and her guys go through the wringer that is for sure and their story is horrifyingly beautiful.

And I couldn’t be happier they get their HEA they for sure deserve it!!!

I REALLY liked the action in this and always love that Katie writes women that are badass. This one is SLOW burn with no spice until the 80% mark but that didn’t take away how good the book was.

My only complaint is that someone was ALWAYS hurt. So it made it hard to have them connect beyond the pain and hurt that they always were. It was a good book but not my favorite of hers.

MUST READ

The way I believe K A Knight was laughing writing this knowing the anxiety, jaw dropping, WTF moments we will go through reading this is so for real. This book was such a cluster that I couldn’t put it down! My only thing about it was that the end was a bit over done but it’s totally worth it
