FUNNY BONES will be a ~112-page, full-color collection of your favorite webcomic artists doing something you've never seen them do before...
>>> CREATE 16 ORIGINAL SCARY STORIES ! <<< Imagine - masters of the 4-panel funny, but tasked with writing and illustrating pages of horror comics. That's the fiendish idea at the heart of this project, but perhaps you are asking WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Will the comics be silly spooky or will they be 100% terrifying and mature? The answer is: I really don't know. I would expect both if I were you. I intend to give the cartoonists complete artistic freedom, but with a couple of guidelines. The book will not contain hate speech, violence of a sexual nature, or IP infringement. Hope that helps!
David Daneman is the creator of The Danemen and The Brothers Dane. His work has appeared on Webtoons, Go Comics, Tapastic, and Bored Panda. Daneman attended film school at the University of Kansas. He lives in Montreal with his wife, Lila.
Funny webcomic artists make spooky/strange/weird tales! This was a lot of fun!
I just love supporting whatever David Daneman creates and so when I saw this one on Kickstarter, of course I had to throw some money and get this book.
In this one we get 16 short stories. 15 by various webcomic artists (most I knew and some are my favourite) and 1 by David Daneman himself. The stories are all short, but many of them are terrifying or awesome. My favourites would be from Dot, Stormy, and Jimmy. But the others were great as well! Some are more terrifying than others. For instance the story about the grand uncle was more sad whereas Neil’s just terrified me and had me going nope. I definitely loved it. Sometimes I could take a tiny little breather between stories before being thrown in nightmares again. I seriously had some nightmares as well thanks to the stories, so thank you for that. That means a horror story worked for me. I already don’t want to be downstairs when it is dark, but thanks to Caterina’s story I am saying nope even more, haha.
I also love the variety in stories. From vampires to ghouls to ghosts to existential dread to monsters in the attic to body horror, it is just perfect. You never know what the next story will bring.
As with a lot of collections like this there are always stories that aren’t my cup of tea. In my case it was the first one which just didn’t click with me and confused me. Then there is the one about mankind extinct, I think this could have been a cool story but it was just too short for me to make sense and it was over before I knew it.
I loved the introduction by Beetle Moses (another one of those artists that I follow).
All in all, I do hope that we get more Funny Bones/horror anthologies because I definitely don’t have enough. I want to see other favourite artists tackle it and make something scary. If you are able to get this one (sometimes these will get sold at other places later on) I would recommend getting it.
