Hidden fangs. Not so hidden hearts. Millicent Layne has been hiding in plain sight, a delicate existence that her fangs threaten to expose whenever her emotions spike. When a last-ditch effort to stall her arranged marriage goes awry causing her brother Andrei to go missing, she needs Ellis Dacre’s help to find him. Nothing more. But as the autumn days roll on, every cozy inn and toasty tavern chips away at Millie’s secret and the walls she built around her heart.
Ellis Dacre is a carpenter with calloused hands, a gentle soul, and dreams bigger than the small town of Balcott. His sights are set on the capital guild—until Millicent Layne enters his life and his best friend Carolyn vanishes. In a desperate search between falling leaves and starry nights at sea, Millie and Ellis uncover a connection between them that stretches beyond this life.
And a conspiracy poised to eradicate Millie’s people forever.

It’s me, not the book!
Sadly, my experience with this book was significantly influenced by the reading slump I’m currently in. I had to really push myself through this arc and it sadly wasn’t the right time for me to read it. I wanted to finish it before publication, so I decided not to put it aside and wait a few weeks.
I am leaving the door open to get back to this book and giving it a fair reread once I’m out of this super annoying reading slump.
Some of the things I really enjoyed about this book were: 🩸 The cosy vibes were great for this time of year! 🩸 The relationship between Millie and Ellis was super cute and the emotional connection was beautifully done 🩸 I liked the adventure aspect of the book too
Maybe I’ll try it again before the publication of book 2, because I am still interested in this author and series!

This was such a pleasant surprise!! I honestly requested this title cause the cover was so cute. Thank you Netgalley for this lovely ARC.
Off the bat, I was impressed with the writing. I’ve read big trad published books with far worse writing. This was really clean, and truly well written.I went in expecting a cutesy fall read, and while it was, there was also plenty of political intrigue as well.
This has the elements of popular romantasy reads, except our couple is more on the cutesy end. So if you love romantasy, and are so down for a cinnamon roll MMC, try this out.
I truly had a great time. Only critiques are that I would’ve loved a little background on the other species in the kingdom. It wasn’t necessary to the story, we had the background we NEEDED, but I would’ve loved a little more info. Also there were a few action sequences where I found myself a little confused within the actions.
I definitely recommend this book and will absolutely return for book 2.
This was perfect. It’s got some dark topics woven in a cute cozy fall read. I couldn’t put this down and the romance was so emotional but natural feeling. You really feel like you stepped into this world and are experiencing it right along with Ellis and Millie! Can’t wait to see more of this world and the other characters stories! Thanks so much to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for arc.
Fangs Divide Us was a really sweet, cozy romantasy book about Ellis and Millie. They meet each other after an accident that leaves Millie injured. After getting to know each other and taking a road trip to the capital to research vampires, Millie and Ellis can't fight their feelings for each other anymore.
While this story is very sweet, it was also rather dark at times, too. The topics violence, racism, religion, and abuse were prevalent throughout this entire book. Millie must hide her true identity because it is illegal to be a vampire. She is in constant fear of being executed. This story also speaks on acceptance, true loyalty, and the immense love you can have for someone else.
Ellis and Millie read a little younger than they were portrayed in the book, but the author showed the progression of both characters very well. Some of the ideas in this book needed a little more development, but overall, it was a very heartfelt book about two people's journey of love.
This book was captivating. The writing was incredible and truly brought me into the world of Valeria. I’ve read a few soul mates books, but this one truly took the cake. Ellis and Millie were so fun to read about. With fantastic chemistry between the characters and expansive imagery, this book is fantasy romance must read. The mythical creatures portrayed in the novel were descriptive and I could vividly see them come to life on the pages. The imagination that it took to create this story impressive. On top of all the incredible characters that author Katherine Crowe has created, the plot is incredible. I was excited, having fun with the characters, and crying along with them. I was so emotional and taken aback by the way things played out. But in the most amazing way. I was surprised and delighted by the way this book turned out. I am so grateful that I was able to partake in this as an ARC and thank you to the author for this sublime book.
With the perfect blend of political strife, sweet romance, and unique world building, this was an awesome read! Forced to team up with a surprising partner after her brother disappears, Millie is now working with Ellis to find him. As they dig for answers, they uncover far more than they bargained for.
The plan to eradicate vampires is horrible and underhanded, but Millie and Ellis have put themselves in more danger than they thought possible with what they've uncovered. Their romance is so sweet, and the story unfolding was so well done.
Fangs Divide Us is a dual POV romantasy between a vampire and a human, which should be up my alley, but this book sadly just wasn't for me. The plot momentum was slow to get going, and by the time the action picked up, I just wasn't that invested in the characters.
The FMC was kind and easy to root for, but I did struggle with some of the miscommunication issues with the MMC and her unnecessary and repetitive guilt. I do appreciate that the FMC was a realistic and fallible person, and her disability and scars were not the main focus of the story but were handled well. The MMC was a little flat to me; he's very nice but not that much else. Their relationship was very quickly formed, but there is an explanation for this to be fair!
I have a hard time with insta-love, so if you don't mind that and are looking for cozy setting, higher stakes fantasy, you will likely enjoy this book!
This book was a delightful adventure the whole time. I enjoyed learning about this world. There was a political scheming and manipulation plot along with the sweetest romance ever. It was truly the best of both worlds. I loved the community aspect that was strong with every group Millie met in her travels. There were hard scenes with such hatred to her kind, but also strangers that helped her when they didn't have to. Millie and Ellis didn't have an easy road, but they stuck together through all of their hardships. It was a beautiful story that I thoroughly enjoyed!
This was an amazing mix of action, corrupt politics, and the sweetest romance! I loved that the Centarians were vampires but that the book focused on them as a people, not the lore of what they should be.
There was plenty of race-against-the-clock action that kept me on the edge of my seat while giving me the most cutesy romance between Ellis and Millie. The close friendships that followed them made everything sweeter🥺
I was so nervous on how Roderick would be portrayed🫣 I thought for sure he would crash out, but he’s just a good guy🥹 I cant wait for his story! The ending left plenty of questions to be answered for the next book, but the justice I felt was exhilarating!
Thank you so much to the author and Torch Lit Ink for the gifted copy!
This was absolutely swoon worthy! I loved the way the centarians were written , & that it never focused on the "vampirism" but more on them being people it was such a great story. Millie and Ellis are such cute found love love at first sight Fated mates all the Tropes all the vibes and I love it! such a feel good romance with a good fantasy plot laid in ! Roderick is such a poor friend zoned soul and I just need his story now that epilogue was a tease !
I received an ARC e-book of Fangs Divide Us all views and opinions are MY OWN.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The cover of Fangs Divide Us is stunning, and the premise, especially the adorable micro trope of Ellis crafting Millie a cane, immediately drew me in. The book delivers on its cozy, sweet promise in many ways, particularly through Millie’s kindness and the magical world-building, including some wonderful, enchanting animals.
However, the tone shifts sharply between warmth and brutality, tackling dark themes like racism, religious fanaticism, and violence with unflinching realism. While these elements add depth, the pacing lost me midway. The start and finale gripped me, but the middle dragged enough that I nearly DNF’d. The insta-love reveal felt abrupt and out of left-field; it took me a while to understand what was going on. And I wished Andrei’s role and the conspiracy’s resolution had more page time as these felt rushed and not fully resolved.
That said, the ending left me curious enough to pick up the sequel. Millie’s vulnerability and Ellis’ sweetness and devotion make them endearing, and the world feels fresh and original. A fascinating, if a little uneven, read that earns a solid 3.5 stars from me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing Co-Op for the ARC. All thoughts are my honest opinion.
This is a romantasy with some very well-executed plot twists. I'm giving it five stars primarily for those plot twists. I also liked the mixture of different fantastical creatures as though it were a multicultural world.
I hesitate to label the book a "cozy romantasy" because it needs two trigger warnings of things that bothered me: attempted rape and attempted genocide. Those are a bit too heavy for the cozy label I think.
The male and female leads are both very endearing and the male lead takes consent very seriously which almost, but not quite, makes up for the attempted rape by another character. But it still rankled a little.
I enjoyed it and am glad I read it. Hopefully I will see the second book when it comes out. I received this book as an ARC. Thank you!
This is a beautiful, slow burn love story, with quite the dramatic, twisty plot.
Millie is a Centarian, a group of people persecuted by the church due to one of their kind being accused of killing a human years before. Usually Centarians were easy to spot due to their red eyes, but some, like Millie were born with human eyes, and only their fangs and blood would reveal what they really are.
Having hidden her true identity for years, Millie signs up with the Hounds, a group sent out by the church to track down Centarians, as a way to see the world before setting down with her betrothed. Unfortunately a sudden wyvern attack changes everything, and after being rescued by the human Ellis, her life would never be the same again.
I quickly fell in love with this cast of characters, and thoroughly enjoyed this read.
I received an ARC of this ebook from Torch Lit Ink, and I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
Millie and Ellis were adorable together. It did seem a bit more telling than showing at times and I could have used a bit more fleshing out in some areas but overall this was a cute read!
This was a really sweet and enjoyable read. It has a very cozy feel throughout the whole book. I liked the dual POVs and thought both Millie and Ellis were very enjoyable characters.
⭐ ARC Review: Fangs Divide Us by Katherine Crowe ⭐
Fangs Divide Us is a sweet paranormal fantasy that blends fated mates with a touch of destiny and past lives. While I didn’t connect with the characters immediately, as the story unfolded I found myself genuinely rooting for them to succeed in their quest.
The pacing was spot on — never dragging, and always moving the story forward in a way that made it hard to put down. I loved the soul-mate connection woven through glimpses of past lives; even though I wished those moments had been fleshed out a little more, the snippets we got were meaningful and really helped develop the couple’s bond.
The plot twist was slightly predictable, but executed so well that it still managed to surprise me. And the ending? It wrapped up beautifully, giving that satisfying complete story feeling while still leaving room for future interconnected tales.
This book is perfect for readers who love fated mates tropes, romantic fantasy with a paranormal edge, and stories that deliver both heart and closure. A great stand-alone with the promise of more to come.
Millicent (Millie) Layne, like most young people, has her own hopes and dreams - to bake, to spend time with friends and family, to find true love. She also has her share of problems like most young people, though the stakes are much higher than paying a car bill or working a part-time job - for one, she's a Centarian, a half-vampire who shouldn't exist and whose people have long been hunted and put to death; her parents' safety relies on an arranged marriage she has been putting off for years; and to top it off, a half-baked last hurrah-of-a-job on which her human brother, Andrei, tagged along has gone off the rails, and he's now missing and presumed dead. Injured, desperate, and in need to assistance, she is forced to turn to one of her rescuers - a carpenter named Ellis Dacre - for help.
Ellis, like Millie, has hopes, dreams, and problems - with his friend's sudden disappearance possibly being linked to the tragedy surrounding Millie's crash-landing into his village (and increasingly, his daydreams), he knows that there must be something more going on in the kingdom. As he and Millie travel from village to village in search of answers - past and present - the crunching of leaves and star-streaked skies bring them not only closer to unraveling a plot bigger than the heavens themselves, but closer to each other - now and in lifetimes past.
I am suffering in summer and this book was the perfect pick-me-up for the longing I have for the fall, was an incredibly cute and cozy romance, and was incredibly detailed and had excellent world-building, which was especially impressive for a debut book! I loved that the author described one of the tropes of this book as "high stakes, cozy breaks", because that's exactly what was delivered, and is something that I didn't realize I loved in books with a romance or other background plot. I generally like getting a lot of background with a new world, and think that one of the best ways to get to know characters is to let them move about, interact with their world, and essentially do some side-questing with their environment, interspersed with the main action and plot, and that's exactly what this book does. I can picture each town, each sun-drenched street, and the different populations of human, non-human, and animal characters here, and it really helped with the immersion and emotional investment I had with this story.
Millie and Ellis were a very cute couple and as above, I think having them take things slowly in terms of moving throughout the book made their relatively short meeting-to-relationship that much more believable - and I say that as someone who is generally not a fan of insta-love. I also like the "fade-to-black" element of the story - I read a lot of adult romance and I think there's a bit more of a challenge in conveying passion, spark, spice, etc. with having a closed-door approach, and it's nice to see how authors tackle this aspect of writing romance! There was still quite a bit of steam for those who are here for the flames, so worry not! I am also glad we are going to see how some of the other relationships here pan out in future books, and I will definitely be grabbing volume 2 when it eventually comes out. Congrats on a fantastic debut to Katherine Crowe, and can't wait to talk about this book again when it's not a million degrees outside!
Thank you to BookSirens and the publisher for providing me with an advance review copy for free! I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Tropes: Adventure Fantasy Romance, Love At First Sight, Soulmates, Political Intrigue, Forced Proximity, Cinnamon Roll MMC, He Falls First
Cottagecore vampire cozy romantasy read? Umm, yes! I love the cover of this book, and it’s what initially drew me to read it. I’ve definitely been into those fall romantasy vibes lately. Add soulmates into the mix and I’m hooked.
In this world, Centarians are descended from vampires — they have fangs, drink blood, and can communicate with animals. They have been hunted and executed for years. They aren’t the problem, though — humans are (are we surprised?). Millie is a Centarian living in hiding. She meets Ellis after she is injured in an attack and her brother is taken from her. Shortly after, Ellis’s friend is also taken, so they embark on a journey to find them together.
This story is a mix of character and plot driven elements. We find out Millie and Ellis are soulmates, divinely blessed to find each other in every life. Millie is complicated. She loves fiercely but also has many insecurities about what she is. She wants to live freely and can’t bring herself to go through with an arranged Centarian marriage, even though it may guarantee her family’s safety. Ellis is a quiet, thoughtful carpenter who is immediately drawn to Millie and falls first. He realizes what they are to each other before she does and is completely in love with everything about her. I loved reading about Ellis’s love for Millie. It is so pure, powerful, and unconditional — even when he finds out what she is.
I will say it was hard to read about the hatred and bigotry. It definitely mirrors real world events. I expected this book to end on a cliffhanger, with more to be discovered in the series. And while there will definitely be more books, Millie and Ellis’s story comes to a satisfying end. That said, I did think the ending happened a little too quickly and wrapped up a bit too neatly. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, thinking, “What’s the catch?” But it truly was just a genuine happily ever after.
One thing I wish we saw more of was Millie’s brother. He was briefly mentioned in the beginning, then they spend the book looking for him, and at the end we don’t get to see much of him. By the end, Millie is more comfortable with herself and dedicates her life to eating sweets, baking, loving Ellis, and helping the Centarians who have been shunned their whole lives. Ellis is right beside her, steady as their shared heartbeat.
Overall, this was a cozy cottagecore vampire romantasy novel that is perfect for a comfort read this fall.
3 stars for the first half of this book, but 5 stars for the end so I've compromised on 4! :)
All in all I kind of loved this, and I would definitely recommend it, with certain caveats!
I picked this up on NetGalley, expecting a light read, due to the cute cover and the promise of a cosy romantic fantasy. It ended up not being quite what I expected, but I really enjoyed it!
It was a bit of a rough start. I feel like there could have been a little more description about the different races to help with the scene setting. There are some great descriptions on the Kickstarter page. I so wish these had been included at the start of the book!
I can't really describe this as a cosy fantasy, though it's almost that. This has very high stakes, which makes it very exciting, but there are also some really dark points. Especially in the first few chapters. 2 really dark things happen, and there are dark themes scattered throughout. Not what I expected, but it does say "high stakes and cosy breaks". This is very accurate!
Millie and Ellis' relationship is super sweet. He's such a cinnamon roll, and he falls for her first, hard and fast! I really enjoyed Millie's walls being broken down and how she opened up as their relationship grew.
However, in the first part of the book I found Millie keeping secrets from Ellis and her guilt surrounding it to be frustrating and repetitive. There was plenty of yearning, but I feel like their feelings could have blossomed a bit more gradually to make it feel less like the same thing was happening two or three times. If it weren't for this, I would probably have rated the book 5 stars.
Things were a little cringey at times, but love can be like that, so I'm just going to go with it.
The artwork is really cute! There were a couple of different pieces of artwork in the arc and I loved them!
The writing was great and consistent throughout. I'd definitely like to pick up the next book in the series! :)
I feel like I could actually ramble on about this book for a good while. It has a lot going for it! I can already see a re-read in my future.
Fangs Divide Us follows Millie, a vampire living in a world where her people are hunted and executed. To survive, she hides in plain sight, but things quickly take a turn for the worst when Millie and her brother get caught in the midst of a Wyvern attack and both end up injured and burnt. While Millie is rescued and cared for by healers, her brothers body is never recovered and she holds onto the hope that he's out there somewhere.
While bedridden, Millie meets Ellis, a sweet carpenter with a gebtle heart who was instantly likable. He makes Millie a cane to help her walk, and falls for her almost immediately. While I can appreciate falling hard and fast, I think this was potentially too fast for my personal tastes.
When Ellis’s friend goes missing, he and Millie team up to find her, and Millie's brother. Their journey uncovers secrets about the church and why they discriminate against centarians, corruption, and a plethora of deceit, but also shows the feelings between the two of them grow and blossom. There's also a fiancé in the mix, a past-life soulmate connection, and eventually a happy ending that sees Millie and Ellis toppling the oppressive church.
Overall, very cute, very cozy, very sweet, perhaps a tad too sweet for me.
This one was a solid three-star read for me. I didn’t dislike it — it was a pleasant, easy read — but it didn’t consume me either. I felt for the characters, but I didn't ache for them. There were sections in the middle that I found dragged a bit, drama that didn't necessarily add to the story. The love at first sight / soulmate trope isn’t really my thing (I love a bit of pining, a little slow burn). Still, I really liked the worldbuilding, the themes of prejudice and redemption, and the cozy, hopeful ending.
Huge thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. As always, it's hugely appreciated ♡
I’m a self-confessed vampire addict; Buffy, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, you name it, I’ve devoured it, so of course I had to pick this up. The cover is just gorgeous and so sweet—I love when you can instantly picture the characters straight from the author’s vision.
I really loved this story, there’s plot (a good one!), there’s steam, there’s growth, and I was all in for the adventure. Most of the book follows Millie and Ellis on their journey, and while a lot happens, it never feels complicated or bogged down. It just flows so well, mixing cozy stops, emotional moments, and enough mystery to keep you guessing. Plus, those twists? the surprises? Some seriously caught me off guard (yes, Lord Bryson, I mean you 👀).
Millie’s journey is as much about finding her missing brother as it is about learning to accept herself; fangs, flaws, and all. It’s a beautiful reminder that strength doesn’t mean hiding who you are.
Ellis and Millie’s connection? Perfection. Fated mates always does it for me, and Ellis is the definition of a green flag. “Go to sleep. I’ll pull you out of every nightmare, every night. I’m not going anywhere.” Swoon. And Millie! her strength, her heart, her resilience, she’s such a standout FMC.
A cozy, romantic vampire tale that blends warmth, danger, and yearning in all the best ways—a story of acceptance, courage, and finding love that lets you be wholly yourself. I loved being swept into this world and can’t wait to see where their story goes next. 🩸🖤🍂
Thank you to the author, Katherine Crowe, Victory Editing and NetGalley for an eARC of this gorgeous story.
Fangs Divide Us is a cozy romantic, political fantasy that follows Millie (Millicent) Layne who is forced to team up with the “enemy” Ellis Dacre when people close to them show up missing. Blame is placed on the Centarians forcing Millie to navigate not only the journey but her hearts desires carefully as to not endanger herself or her mission.
Tropes: One bed Closed door spice (fade to black) He falls first (and hard!) High stakes with cozy, comforting elements Forbidden love + fated mates Cordial rivals, arranged marriage drama, and a conspiracy that could destroy everything she loves
While certain aspects of the book felt like they moved slowly, it always served the plot well. I found this to be a medium paced book that is character driven. Characters were well fleshed out. The world building happened through the story, so it didn’t feel suffocating. This was especially appreciated in such a large world and lent itself well to emersion into the story.
Katherine Crowe did lovely representation of an LGBTQ+ relationship as well as disability.
Overall, I would rate this book a 3.5. I found myself trudging through it in certain places but devouring it in others. There is a ton of yearning to a point of almost frustration for myself. I found myself yelling at the characters to give in already. All in all, I’m very excited to see what happens next.
This book has a kickstarter that is currently live if you would like to support it. The link will be pinned in my comments.
Soul bonds, a religious campaign against supernatural creatures, and a journey to track down abducted friends and family - Fangs Divide Us is packed full of adventure and themes that seesaw between cozy and dark. This is a great read for those who enjoy the fated mates trope.
I found the prose a little over the top at points (especially in the romantic dialogue towards the end), but overall I enjoyed the plot and the slow unraveling of the mystery. What starts as a simple quest to track down Millicent's brother and Ellis' best friend quickly turns into a journey that reveals a kingdom-wide conspiracy.
The turn towards bigger stakes definitely made this book feel more substantial, as the relationship itself (while wholesome and cute) wasn't super developed. They fall for each other very quickly and there isn't much in the way of drama or growth between them. I did appreciate the dynamic between them though - it's very positive and trust based which is nice to see in a dark(ish) romantasy story.
For me, the friendships made along the road were more engaging. I loved the visit with the grandparents, the bond with Hesper, and the willingness many healers had to protect Millicent's secret.
I didn't get the strongest sense of the kingdom as a whole. This is definitely a more character/plot driven book. It would have been nice to have a bit more world-building (especially in the villages as this could have added to the general public's growing hysteria). That being said, I enjoyed the read overall and felt things came together well at the end.
What to expect: Forbidden love Fated Mates Vampires, Gryphons, Wyverns & Lycanians Closed door spice
Millicent Layne has been in hiding for years as a Centarian, thought of to be a bloodsucking vampire that is a danger to the human race. When in reality, they just want to live in peace amongst the humans. People have gone missing and she goes to search for them with Ellis Dacre.
Ellis found Millie under a huge boulder and was lucky enough to save her. Ever since the meeting, he has felt such a pull towards her that he thinks she might mean something more to him. They go on this journey looking for their people, sparking a friendship and discovering secrets.
The church has issued an order that everyone's blood must be tested to see if they are Centarian or there will be severe consequences. Fear of confessing her true nature to Ellis, Millie is unsure if she can trust him. His mother was taken by her people and thought to be killed.
Would he understand why she had to keep this secret? Will their affection for one another overcome this obstacle? Can she outrun the order from the church? Will they find their people before times up? This book was a delightful read and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. Pick up the book & join me on this journey if the Centarians find peace amongst the humans or if they get executed!

I definitely love the cozy but also serious kind of vibe the story has between the FMC Millie and the MMC Ellis and of course we cannot leave out the Gryffon Hesper. Two characters meet due to a tragedy. Wyvern's attack the Hounds at the pass and Ellis one of the ones who helped rescue and bring people back into the town of Balcott. Poor Millie's brother is missing and so is a friend of Ellis. Both venture off together to discover the Centarion Islands and the hopes of finding their loved ones, be it family or friend. Neither seem to realize they are both harboring a secret. One that could get her killed, and one that could be seen as treason if the wrong person saw his mother's journal.
Millie is kind of refreshing. She's stubborn and loyal and just wants a life that doesn't end with her dying. She is riddled with nightmares, spontaneous moments of her fangs popping it daring her secret to be learned.
Ellis is different from his father, he doesn't want to lead the town and take his place. He just wants to make his wood carvings and live his own life. He's sweet and willing to forge his own path and lend an arm to lean on or be a shoulder to cry on type of person. I adore him.
I am definitely looking forward to book 2 in the spring so I can get more from this world and the characters I've gotten to know.
Let me put my 5 star rating another way: it isn’t even the 10th of the month yet and I can already tell this is going to be my top read for this month. The story has high stakes and cozy vibes, and has left me with the warm and fuzzies in spades!
I really enjoy fantasy that feels a bit like a roadtrip, and Fangs Divide Us is that, and so much more as Millie and Ellis band together on their hunt for her missing brother and his missing friend. There’s action, adventure, a couple of sassy furry and feathered (and scaled!) companions, heaps of found family and the uncovering of a nationwide conspiracy. And even better than all that? Everything about Millie & Ellis’ story is so heartfelt. They’re drawn together in a way neither can explain, and find love and safe harbour within each other. There is a lot more I could (and want to) say, but anything more will give too much away. Just know that I was kicking my feet throughout! And a random addition: I loved Crowe’s reimagining of engagement rings into family stone piercings; so imaginative.
Thank you very much to Katherine Crowe, Victory Co-op and NetGalley for the opportunity to read & honestly review Fangs Divide Us prior to its release.
