Everything Anna cared about is lost; the only thing left is Devin. She gives him all of herself, but even that seems too little. As Anna realizes the truth of her Master's desire, she must decide what it is that she truly wants.
There is a subculture within our own world that you’ve only heard whispers of. The conspiracy theorists wish they knew Anna’s story. What the conspiracy theorists think they know is only disinformation, put out there to keep them from the real story.
***NOTE*** This is not a stand-alone novel. This is the fourth of five novels that tell Anna’s story.
***WARNING*** This book is for grownups. This book is not for people who are easily offended, get nightmares easily, or have difficulty reading books about tough subjects. I do not glorify bad things, but bad things do happen to my poor characters. This is not your typical love story. My heroine does not fall in love and live happily ever after... at least not like the typical heroine. There is a happily ever after, but it is a long, painful journey to that end. This book will likely offend you. This book might make you cry; it might make you throw up. It is a dark book. As my friend, Heidi, said, “It’s dark. It gets darker. It gets even darker, and then it gets even more darker. And then, just when you think it can’t get any darker, it does.” But, don’t worry. I take you to the deep end gradually. ;) There are many sexual situations in this series of books. People die. People get hurt. Things aren’t always truly the way they appear. The antagonist isn’t just a bad guy; he’s EVIL. My heroine’s worldview is skewed; things that may appall you are perfectly normal to her. Any violence in this book is non-gratuitous and crucial to the plot and character development. Do not read this if you are under the age of consent in your country. Do not get angry if the subject or actual book upsets you. If you're reading this, you've been warned.

4 STARS!!
Marissa Honeycutt is killing me slowly. I'm astounded how she can shock me at every turn. Just when I think it's dark, it get much worse. The plot thickens, new players emerge, and my world is turned on it's axis.
This is the fourth book in The Life of Anna, this series should be read in order. Five parts total. Make sure you have your big girl panties on, this series is one of the darkest of have ever read, with a twist of paranormal woven in. This review may be slightly spoilerish if you haven't read the other books, so beware.
It's been two years since Alex disappeared. Anna has been in a drug induced high, pushing away the memories of the happiest time of her life. Miserable and Broken. Lost and Damaged. Devin has a plan to take over the world, I think. I'm not really sure was his ultimate plan is. The Russians have entered the picture, how much are they involved? My head is spinning. I'm on pins and needles. I was hoping for some answers this round, but I was left a bit disappointed. I need Anna to get revenge, I need Anna to have her HEA, I need, I need. I'm going crazy over this series. I wonder if Marissa Honeycutt is a SADIST and she's breaking me for the fun of it. OMG! The problem here is the endless dark, usually I'm drooling for it, but I need some answers, something. I knew from the start that I had to wait, there's five books, Marissa says. Anna's life is dark, Marissa says. Devin will get what he deserves, Marissa says. I'm dying. Finally a dark hero that I do not love. I want to see him burn in hell. I have to give Marissa props for creating the most hated villain I have ever read. Please for the love of my sanity, tell me book five will be released the day after book four. Please. Marissa, I will have your babies, you can take me to the gatherings and use me. I offer myself to you.
Book Five can't come quick enough. I have a feeling it's going to blow me away. Hopefully revenge is the driving force and I can only hope Anna gets some sort of a good ending. I will jump off a bridge if Anna doesn't get a good ending. I'm just saying. I can't recommend this series enough for darkies.
Join the party here. We have some awesome giveaways and plan to shake it up. Twisted Sisters are ready to party.
Picking up two years after book 3 ended, Anna exists in a drug-induced haze. Devin controls the drugs, and thereby, controls Anna. She craves a state of unfeeling, escaping her heartache in the numbness.
Eventually, her health begins to suffer and Anna begins to lose her usefulness. Unwilling to lose his favorite toy and secret weapon, Devin demands that Anna begin dancing again and weans her from the drugs. Always a step ahead, he continues to keep Anna under his thumb, even arranging a fake boyfriend to keep an eye on her for him.
As in the earlier books, Anna seems to have a never-ending line of male admirers. Alex, Kurt, Wilhelm, Aaron, Nate, Ben, Travis, Tommy, Peter...The list goes on and on. I can't keep up with all of them. My head is spinning!
I think that there may have been more sex in this book than in the earlier books in the series, which is quite a feat. Usually, this much sex in a book would detract from the story, but for some reason, it just works for this book. Not having a play by play account for many of the sex acts probably helped. Otherwise, this series would read like a never-ending gangbang.
This book left me feeling optimistic and hopeful for the first time since I started this series. Finally, it seems that Anna might catch a break. Her slews of admirers are proving themselves useful for a change, taking action to try and rescue Anna instead of just taking from her.
I just know that Alex has to come back in the final book! After all, we were promised an eventual happily ever after, right??? You can't have that without Alex alive and Devin dead! So, needless to say, I'm looking forward to the next book!
The story of Anna continues with Ensnared. First off let me start by saying READ THE WARNING!!!! You can’t miss it. It’s EVERYWHERE!!
Anna is still struggling with the death of the most important person in her life. She is constantly dreaming of him and it is stopping her from moving on. He was her soul mate. But she needs to move on and out of the darkness before she sinks and can’t pull herself back out.
Devin is still a monster. One that gets more and more powerful. Of course he does it at Anna’s expense. Taking and taking from Anna and pushing her to the brink of destruction.
But Anna is changing. She is discovering things about herself and Devin is not happy.
Wilheim tries to protect her from the abuse but his attempt only ends in heartache and despair. Causing such a strong man to fall to his knees and weep.
Just when Anna is about to go off the deep end again something happens on a flight from D.C that could ultimately change everything-----but in Devin’s favor.
Friends are now forming alliances to protect the Elder Mistress which ultimately causes the death of a very close person to Devin.
Who can he trust? Can he keep Anna for himself until her 26th birthday? Can she find another soul mate before it’s too late?
I need the next book like I need my next breath. I can’t read. I can’t sleep. I can’t stop thinking of The Life of Anna.
Never have I looked forward to reading a book in this series as much as this one and then when I won a copy in a prize I was over the moon happy.
So much happened in this book and the way it made me feel was sometimes indescribable never felt so angry and anxious reading a book before. I wanted to pull my hair out with the frustration I felt for Anna again. How she keeps going I don't know. Devin can he get any more evil and sadistic?
So two years on and Anna has turned to drugs to numb the pain she's feeling from losing Alex and Wilhelm. Devin decides he needs her again so stops the drugs and uses her as his slave again only this time she is severely punished for the slightest thing she does wrong, then the nerve juice treatment gets used. Peter was a great distraction for Anna and I liked his character. Ian's hands were tied but so happy with what he did for Anna.
I wanted to cry and scream nearly the whole way through until I got to the feisty angry Anna and then I could breath a bit, but not for long!
The pain Devin inflicted on Anna was unbearable to read at times both gruesome and disturbing. What Devin does to Anna at the gatherings left me gobsmacked.
Devin can he get any more evil? Is Alex still alive? Will Anna get away and have her hea? I have high hopes for book five and hope to see Anna's big green eyes and temper return again to defeat Devin and Kaveh.
Dark erotica at its best which totally messes with your head and feelings. Awesome read.
This is the most disturbing series I have ever read. I had nightmares every night after reading this series, and yet, I finished all five books in three days because I had to know what happened. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give these books 5 stars or 1 star. It took the twisted mind of Marissa Honeycutt to come up with something so cruel and truly stomach turning and at the same time keep me reading. I will never recommend this book to anyone for fear that they will realize I read something so disturbing. Because of all the emotions this book elicited in me I decided on the 5 starts instead of 1 star. I am just glad to be finished reading so I can get a good nights sleep.
I'm so glad I have 1 book left. This book left me drained. I cried the whole book. Like ugly tears, I can't breath tears. All I want to do is KARATE CHOP DEVINS THROAT AND STAB MY PENCIL IN HIS EYE. Ugh!!! He is so Evil. WTF
This book is, by far, the dirtiest I have ever read. And God knows I have my fair share of dirty reads.
Really, this series is getting dirtier and dirtier and crueler, meaner. I am amazed with Devin "dirtiness" honestly. And Oh my God, Devin is the meanest bastard character I've ever read. His amusement of torturing Anna was beyond me.
Me summing up this will be:
OH SO DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY...
OH SO CRUEL CRUEL CRUEL... I wish I could redo what I read.
And oh so ridiculous sometimes. LOL
But who cares, eh?! I'm still gonna take this ride!!
One book to go! I must know how this journey will end!!
Let me summarize what I thought about the books first.
Enslaved and Entwined is not something that I adore. I gave two stars to those but it’s not that bad either. I want to know what happened but the incidents while the story develops, is crazy and I am so mad. But remind you, 2 stars in Goodreads is “it’s okay”. So, not a bad rating for those two.
Embraced, I am full of emotion while reading this. I am intrigued about what will happen and crazily full of joy when something great happened. The marriage and those things, it was crazy. I am having so much fun since the uprising part. The climax is something that I will say, full of emotion too. I cried, I grieved and I am so mad when it happened. I have stated that I am hoping of something but I knew it won’t happened.
I’m going to say what it is, I hope Alex is still alive. Somewhere in Russia or anywhere in the world like Twitch in Raw. He can’t be dead. He is the only good thing that ever happened in Anna’s life.
But, I have feelings that Alex is somehow dead and the hero in this story will be Devin, the devil spawn. You can’t blame me, Devin have ‘that’ moment when he felt something for Anna when he visited Anna after she got married in book 3. And in the fourth book, Devin felt Anna’s seduction when he stared into her eyes. Wait, what the fuck?!
I could be so mad if Devin is the hero. EEEW.
I actually have thought Devin is the hero when the first time I read this series because the blurb told us about Devin. Every blurb for every book told us about Devin. It can’t be. Please no.
Ensnared started with ‘two years later’ and I know something bad had happened because at the end of the third book, Anna’s changed. She is not the confident Elder-Mistress, not anymore. She turned to be herself before she saw hope in her life, before Alex and I am truly really purely heartbroken when I read it. I hate her and she is stupid for me in the first and second book but the third book made her looked so innocent that I can’t be mad. And the fourth book literally just break my heart.
I cried everytime she dreamed of Alex. SO HARD IT’S DIFFICULT TO BREATH! She said that after few pages of the book and I swear to God I felt her grieve. Everytime she dreamed of Alex, there is a spark of hope inside of me. I really really and dying to know whether Alex is alive or not.
Eventually, I gave up on that hope or belief at 80% of the book. But just for the fourth book. I have hope to see him alive in the fourth but no more. Why? That dream, God, it gave me damn hope. I don’t know what Marissa will write for the fifth book but I want him to be alive. Every reader wanted that!
The characters:
I have bad feelings about Alex is actually really died and Devin will change. Fuh. That is totally not going to be the great ending, don’t you think? He is way too fucked up and his blood shouts DEVIL, ya know. I don’t believe in Devin’s redemption, not in the second book and certainly not in the fourth book too. It doesn’t matter if he is a new leaf, he doesn’t deserve any chance. He is the real devil spawn, after all.
I like how Anna finally become stronger. The story develops, Anna get stronger, be mad at Devin, doesn’t giva a damn about what he think. And Devin being Devin and Anna be her, again. But I’m not annoyed. She did what she needed too. She can’t be dead because she is Half-Immortal, she just doesn’t want to be hurt. When she lived with Peter, she got stronger because Peter cared for her. And she broke down again when Peter left. I don’t blame her, she got too much of hope and much more dissapointment. The book is quite long and she get stronger and broke down few times. As much as it may irritated some people because of the cycle, it’s not for me. I think that the reader, people like me, who hated Anna in first and second book, got more feeling about her life. It gave empathy.
The story:
The plot doesn’t develop much. The beginning, the heartbroken moment is okay. The uprising, however, I can’t see it. There is nothing much happened in this book other than how evil Devin is and how he made Anna’s life shattered. People know I hate books that doesn’t develop plots but I don’t hate it however. Like I have said, this book made the reader realise how’s Anna live actually.
The climax, I think it is that part when Anna is mad. I won’t stated how she got mad but Devin is scared of her on that time. No spoilers, just suspense. You need to read this book if you want to know how or why. I tell you what, I am totally, 100% satisfied with that part. It proves how nothing Devin would be without Anna. That is something that I waited since the first book. I need to go through four books and more than 1000 pages to get that and it is satisfying as hell. Mind-blowing. Great job.
She does got help but I won't say that is the climax, I am not really satisfied with that part, actually. But that part showed us Devin's influence is not strong as before. I could see Devin's life started to crumble little by little.
The suspense, there is a lot of that elements in this book. You don’t get much of suspense in another three, well the third is overwhelming but the fourth is better. Anna.. protected her baby and Kaveh can’t hurt the baby. DAMN GIRL! YOU GOT IT! I am not mad when that incident ended, (Yes, I’m not telling what happened afterwards. You need to read this book, again.) because like how Anna’s having break down few times, that thing happened with her power too. You got to see her power get stronger when she healed some girl and get even more stronger when Kaveh can’t hurt her baby and got more stronger when Devin finally scared of her. Her power getting stronger, that is the most important part.
Her power is not strong yet to protect her body physically or what, we don’t care. I don’t. I like that element because you got that impression that one day, Anna won’t break down and be upset because she have too much dissapointment and break down, she won’t care anymore. She will shut her emotion off and on that time her power will be more than enough to hurt Devin. You got what I’m trying to say? Remember The Legend of Airbender, Avatar? He is not strong enough, he loses his fight,s but one day, he ables to protect the entire world. I am expecting the same thing to happen.
That is the perfect element though. You will continue to read so that you get your satisfication when Anna strip Devin off his power. You want that and you will read the fifth book. And there is nothing more that I adore than magnificent ending.
Duh, I like cliffhanger. It gave you thousands of emotions for the next book.
Recap: This book is the most brutal book in the series and take your time to read it because you will need to have a rest, free your mind from those disturbing incidents in the book. But when you finish this book, you just want to read the next. I like that feeling. I adore it. The frustration that I felt since first book is worth it because this book gave everything that I want since the time I finished reading the first book.
It's like the worst thing ever, when you have one of your most eagerly anticipated releases of the year so far, and you can't actually start reading yet. So it sits there taunting you, with all it's information and reveals. So yes, I was desperate to get stuck in to the fourth part of Anna's story.
In this part, the story starts 2 years on from the end of Embraced. Anna has spent the whole of the 2 years pretty much out of it. The time has slipped by, and Anna hasn't even noticed. Her coping mechanism for the events that took place in Embraced, have left her an empty shell. Devin just left her to wallow in her drug infused haze. Easier for him, than a lucid Anna.
Yet, Devin has now decided she has to make herself of use again, and Anna's supply has dried up. She now has to face reality, without Alex in her life. Without the drugs, Anna starts to dream. We know from before that Anna doesn't have normal dreams. We're not entirely sure whether they are premonitions, or she travels in her dreams but whatever it is, she sees something that, she will not accept is real. And, these dreams want to get her every time she falls asleep.
We then spend the rest of the story seeing Anna, come back to life. Yet struggle with her loss. This time we get to see more of the Russians, who seem to have quite a few secrets themselves.
Just like each of the other parts of Anna's story, we see Anna go through some incredibly, horrific treatment, at the hands of Devin. It's obvious that he gets off on devising new and unique ways, of torturing Anna, and it still surprises me how she can take so much. Yet it no longer surprises me how twisted Devin can actually be.
3 things I have learnt in Part 4; I now love Ian. I never really had an opinion on him before this book. He was always Devins' puppet. But after the events that unfold at the end of this book. I love him. He is totally renewed in my eyes.
Also, I learnt that, I hate Kaveh. He may be all gold and gorgeous with a great big uhhhh ego. But he is nasty. 100%. I'd love to think he will get his comeuppance eventually, but I know already he won't. That much is obvious.
Final thing; Wild, unleashed, immortal Anna is awesome!!!! I absolutely loved her freak out, and her glowing green eyes. God I hope she has another of those moments and tears apart Devin (and perhaps Kaveh) in Part 5!!
Again, like the rest of the books in this series. The writing was captivating, and held me glued to every word. Considering all the black, dark, and ugly content in this book. It was written in a beautiful and addictive style. I've never felt such strong feelings over characters, be it hatred, or love, or pity. It's all felt to intense levels.
For all the bad feeling running through this book, constantly feeling like every time Anna gets a tiny shred of good luck, the bad generally follows straight after, and is 10 x worse, the end couple of chapters were definitely a feel good moment, that I'm glad we were left with. Yes it's up in the air and anything can and probably will happen, within the first chapter of Part 5. But I felt quite positive and optimistic for once. I know that the final Part is coming, and it can go in so many directions. But it's going to start off positive, and I'm ready for it!! :)
**WARNING** Firstly, make sure you read these books in order. Otherwise it could be the most confusing book you have ever read. Secondly, be prepared this book is quite extreme and tackles some really dark and sensitive subject matter. Please go in to it, knowing this.
***I was given an ARC of this book, in exchange for a fair and honest review.***
***NOTE*** This is not a stand-alone novel. This is the fourth of five novels that tell Anna’s story.
Life has not been kind to Anna. Everything that she has ever loved is taken from her. Her family, her friends, her husband and any place she ever thought to call home is gone. All of this is the doing of one man. Devin Anderson. For as long as Anna can remember Devin has been a fixture in her life. He started as a loving uncle type that she could look up to as a young girl. When she lost her parents in a tragic car accident leaving her an orphan, Devin was there for her supportive and loving. Then one day it all stopped. He went from being her protector to her worst nightmare. Anna found herself thrust into the world of sex slaves, trained to use her sexuality to help advance Devin in the political world.
This installment begins about two years after she lost her beloved husband and Master Alex, killed on one of his mysterious missions for the Brotherhood. Leaving Anna at the mercy of her other Master Devin. The only way Anna could survive the pain of losing her one true love was to take the drugs that Devin was all too eager to provide. She craved the numbing bliss. Ever the evil master Devin was crueler to her than ever. At one point he took away her escape preventing her from staying in a drug induced stupor. This creates yet another way for him to control her mind and body.
Throughout part four, Anna goes through many emotions. Despair, sadness, even love a little as she begins a relationship with both Kurt and Willem. Even the man, Peter that Devin enlists to keep an eye on Anna cannot help but fall for her. Devin still has a hold on Anna as we find out he pulls his power from Anna, she becomes weaker her immortal powers lessening. He continues to use her body for his own gain.
There are so many twists and turns in this installment, I was left breathless. The story once again enthralled me from the first chapter. Two things in this one that were my favorites, one when Anna dreams of Alex because it gives me and Anna hope that he may be alive somewhere. The other is when Anna shows her mean streak. We find out that Anna when angry is not a pretty sight and even the diabolical Devin shows a little bit of fear.
Marissa reveals some things in this installment but she also gives us more to contemplate. This is one of the reasons I love this series so much, it is such a unique story. Marissa is truly an evil genius when it comes to dark romance. Just when you think you have it, all figured out she throws you for a loop. I cannot wait to find out how the final installment ends. I can only hope my beloved Alex will be back to help Anna defeat Devin. Though maybe in the end Anna realizes the power to defeat Devin was in her all along she just had to find it.
I look forward to anything Marissa Honeycutt writes, it is sure to keep my attention.
BE WARNED THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE IT HAS SOME BRUTAL SUBJECT MATTER. INCLUDING RAPE AND PHYSICAL ABUSE, ANNA’S LIFE IS NOT A PRETTY ONE. SOME OF THE CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK ARE PURE EVIL AND DO VERY EVIL THINGS. IF THIS TYPE OF STORY OFFENDS, YOU DO NOT READ IT.
Received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was lucky to read an ARC of Book 4 and all I can say is Marissa Honeycutt is killing me a slow death This Series is really not for the faint hearted they just get darker and darker with every book just when you think it can't get any more darker BAM! Its gets much worse.
I do not know where to even begin with part 4! HATE DEVIN #devonmustdie I need therapy for how much I hate him! This is Book 4 in the life of Anna Series there will be 5 parts and this is the Darkest Series I have ever read it has so many twists and turns and it just messes with my head something bad I even dream of it there is a bit of Paranormal in it but I get so lost into the story I forget that it is. I got really annoyed in this one I HATE Devin with a passion and I was screaming at the kindle why the hell aren't people helping Anna they know some of the stuff Devin is doing to her. I was hoping for some Answers in this one but none where really Answered. This book begins Two years after book 3 and since Alex disappeared , Devin has kept Anna drugged pushing away memories of Happy times she's lost and heartbroken you just want to crawl into the book and hug her and take her away from all of it.
Devin keeps getting her pregnant and taking the baby away from her to give him more power DEVIN HAS TO DIE! <<<< I HAVE never HATED a Character as much as I hate him I really need Book 5 very soon
FIVE STARS ~ Highly recommend this series for lovers who are not afraid of the darker side, the very dark side !!!
Ensnared (The Life of Anna #4) is amazing, everything I love about this series and more is provided in part 4, evil, twisted , shocking, limits are pushed and pushed.
Anna is finely waking up from her drug induced trance she has been under for the past two years, since her soul mate Alex was killed, although has he really gone ????. Anna seems to have accepted the life given to her by Devin and just wants to make him happy because after all when he gets upset she has to pay a very high price, Devin does not hold back, Alex is not around to support Anna so he goes wild. Although Alex's family and Anna's friends fight for her nothing is easy with Devin holding all the power and the power he needs most is Anna. Anna shows a side to her never seen before and I am hoping she will dig deep to fight back in the end.
Ensnared answered some of the questions left unanswered in the previous parts but so many still remain a mystery and leaves me begging for the final part ~ Part 5 Emerged.
Again I want to say that The Life of Anna is the best dark series I have ever read but be warned do not read if you are going to comment that this book was too dark, warnings are in place so prepare yourself and enjoy.
Holy crap. Okay. I am not sure where to even begin! This book definitely lives up to the title. Marissa has Ensnared me into this series!
We pick up with Anna two years later, she is drugged and still missing Alex. She presumes he is dead and cannot deal with her dreams of him and so the TV or being drugged is her solution. Devin has only been using her for the Spring Gathering when she gives him her offerings, and he has decided that she is not useful to him so he cuts off the drugs and forces Anna to get back to the land of the living.
To say that Anna goes through hell in this book is an understatement. We watch her dream of Alex, find friendship/companionship and some love. And for a brief moment in time we get to see the fighter and the power inside of Anna before it is extinguished by Devin.
Devin is told that maybe if he shows her some affection, it would work better for his benefit. He thinks about it and starts to be kinder; and this throws Anna off. Meanwhile, we the reader are screaming at her not to fall for the trap! She can't help it. She believes that this is her fate. She is a slave and this is the best that she can hope for. Even though every path and the people she meets in it are telling her that's not true! She is an Elder Mistress. Not a slave and she needs to start believing it. The whole time, her heart bleeds for Alex. Her pain missing him is real and tangible. She has good friends that help her along the way and we finally think that she may escape Devin. Just maybe.
I have to say this book had me hooked. I couldn't put it down. I kept hoping for Anna. And at some part I was so mad and disgusted by Devin. He needs to be punished. I was so happy she has people in her corner and she finds new allies all the time. People cannot help but to be drawn to her and want to help!
Let's hope Alex lives, Anna finds her strength in who she truly is meant to be and that Devin gets his punishment. I think some nerve juice to start.....
That's what it should be called because that's all these books are about, her constant failed romances with men she meets through Devin or her dance class. I know this isn't a love story but I can not at all be convinced of any claim of love a character proclaims in the book. not even when Anna says it. The guys are quick to spend every waking moment with her and show her that she is a person who has feelings and all that but then they later get fed up with her and act mean verbally by acting like she is a sl-t. I didn't get why she got so attached to Peter. i mean sure he was mean at first because he didn't know her full background but when he did know he was nice and then he was mean again calling her sloppy seconds after she slept with Aaron even though his dumb self has a wife.
Just no. all those romances were fake little flings and nothing more. This is different from other dark books I have read in the sense that it is actually dark. I will give props to the author for those horrid, gruesome scenes. i pictured them too vividly and thus I could not really fully read them. Had to slip those scenes. But that is where the difference ends because every character aside from Devin is a cliche to me and while it feels like there are twists and turns it's just predictable because for most of the book Anna just interacts with her old flames, feels a hint of jealously because they have significant others while she is their women on the side for the time she is with them.
All the good guys she interacts with are not saints clearly. They don't like the constant abuse she faces but will not hesitate to use her for sex or cheat on their S.O's
Ugh! All that kind of made me feel like what she and Alex had were real.
I really don't want it to be true about Alex. I'm still holding out hope for the last book to give Anna some much needed peace.
*I received a free copy to read & review for Wicked Reads Review Team* These books are so difficult to review, I want to go in to details about the story - but I don't want to give anything away!
This book starts 2 years after Embraced ends. Anna hasn't really been living, instead she's just starting to wake from her drug coma. (If you read book 3, you know why) She has no real recollection of the past 2 years of her life. Ensnared is the story of Anna transitioning from Alex's to Devin's possession. Hope and Despair, Love and Hate, Sadistic blackness and Blinding light is the never-ending sequence of Anna's life.
As usual, this was a thrilling story that just never looses steam - there aren't any "down" periods in this book. My attention was grabbed from page one and never wavered until I was cursing at the final page.
Devin, he is the most HATED villain I've ever read, and he does NOT disappoint in this installment.
I have to say, many of my questions have been answered: What really happened to Anna's parents? What exactly are her abilities and what is the source of them? What is Devin TRULY trying to achieve? How does Anna figure into his grand scheme? What role do the Immortal's play in Devin's plan? (I could list hundreds, but these were all answered...and then some)
I have to say that although I've enjoyed the previous 3 books in this series, this was is (so far) my favorite. I'm excited and anxious for book 5!!
Wow! It's funny thinking back to my first review of Book 1 where I so blindly (and ignorantly) wished there had been more of a 'dark' element to the book, since the warnings were so implicit. Marissa assured me that my darkness would arrive in Book 2. Holy hell, did it ever?! Then came Book 3...BAM! And, now, Book 4...well, my little dark heart can't take much more. I am cautiously optimistic that Anna will get her HEA, however, there is just one twist that I cannot accept: Alex cannot be dead; he simply just cannot be dead. Nooooo, please, I beg you! But, I digress...
Marissa's writing is so masterful in its' ability to constantly keep you guessing. Never underestimate the depths to which she will drag you under in her quest to totally mindf*ck you. For if you do, You. Are. A. Fool.
No matter what the outcome of the final book may be, I have thoroughly enjoyed the torment this diabolical story has caused me to suffer...so bad that it feels so good kind of torment though! ;-)
I have always loved Marissa's stories from the first time I got sample and the writing this book has really stepped up her writing style to another level. I have always been impressed by her skills but they are growing and it is impressive. This original, creative and well crafted story is riveting.
Things are changing for Anna. Not all changes are for the better and not all are for the worse. This is a time of transition and Anna handles some of it well and some she stumbles through in her charming, naive way despite the rough life Devin has given her. The contradictions inherent in her personality make her truly charming and endearing. Her trust in people is amazing and I just want want to hug her and take her home with me and keep her safe.
Congratulations Marissa you have managed to make a fantastic draft a brilliant book.
Spoiler alert... dont read this review if you havent read the book...
About halfway through this book, I thought I was going to have to stop and take a break because of how dark and depraved it was... how disturbed I was over it... but now - Hopes of Alex, the fact that Anna has finally broken away from Devin at least for a bit... and unleashed her own inner beast makes me anxious to pick up the last book of the series! Well done, I'm a sick puppy because I'm desensitized to the death of characters now... a little sad that Ian had to go... I had a feeling he was on her side. Buckling up on the train to NY right along with our fair Anna... let's see where the finale takes us!
Wow simply amazing. If you love dark stories then this series is for you. This whole series is full of so much emotion it messes with your head. One moment you are so sad you use up a box of tissues, the next you are so angered you want to hit Devin to death. Please Marissa let Alex still be alive i beg you and don't let us wait to long for the next book.
I have to say this series is extremely dark and depraved - as the warning clearly states. I have continued reading because I just want to see Anna & Alex finally succeed. High 5 to Ian who did the right thing and a massive FUCK YOU to Devin who is a prick of mammoth proportions. I need this final book asap !!!
I'm glad Anna is free but I'm so traumatised that honestly I feel like it's gonna be short lived but I hope not. That girl has went through a lot I hope she gets a happy ending and I need them to find Alex asap.
