Alaana, shaman of the Anatatook people, must journey through the spirit lands in search of her daughter's lost soul. She is accompanied by her deadly tupilaq - a reanimated seal carcass that lives only for revenge.
An ancient Sorcerer, accidentally freed from captivity by the Anatatook shaman, launches a plan to reshape the world, threatening them all. As this legendary villain's secrets unfold, Alaana's husband is torn between the real world and a horrific shadow land in his own effort to rescue their daughter before time runs out. With Alaana wounded and under attack, and the entire Anatatook people in danger, the shaman's husband may be their only hope.
This is Book Three in an epic fantasy series with a unique arctic setting. All fans of fantasy will enjoy these five novels.
As a Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America member, my short fiction has frequently appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. I also had stories in Interzone, Buzzymag, Abyss & Apex, Unsettling Wonder and Ominous Realities. ALAANA'S WAY, my 5-part series of epic fantasy novels is published by Cat's Cradle Press. Described as "cutting-edge fantasy from the top of the world" the arctic setting and unique characters will bring something new to even the most jaded fantasy enthusiast. I have now read the first three books of this five-book fantasy series and I honestly don't understand why it's not better known. The use of Inuit mythology is superb; and there are just enough details of their hard everyday life to prevent the idealization of their culture. In these books lice, dirt and hunger coexist with shadows, Neanderthal sorcerers, spirit companions and other marvels that owe nothing to the worn-out Tolkien tradition. Now that Chinese and African SF and fantasy are bursting onto the scene, I hope this series will get the recognition it deserves.
This third book in the series weaves the spirit world story with Alaana's story in a gripping way. The action is moving . The view of and observations by the white men are interesting. Looking forward to reading book four.
