Alexandra “Alex” Miller and her best friends are more like sisters. They live by the code that a good girlfriend will stick by you and be honest with you not matter what.
They’ve been friends over twenty years and have seen each other through marriage, divorce, broken engagement, death and other minor crisis. But it’s the secrets they’ve failed to trust each other with. Each of them is holding on to a secret they believe could destroy not only their reputation, but their friendship as well.
Alex and her best friends, Chloe, Taylor, Kendell and Dionne all long for one thing, a happy ending. As they’ve gotten older, they’ve discovered, not everyone gets the fairytale happy ending they want, but the reality life has orchestrated for them.
A California native, novelist Tracy Reed pushes the boundaries of her Christian foundation with her sometimes racy and often fiery tales.
After years of living in the Big Apple, this self proclaimed New Yorker draws from the city’s imagination, intrigue, and inspiration to cultivate characters and plot lines who breathe life to the words on every page.
Tracy’s passion for beautiful fashion and beautiful men direct her vivid creative power towards not only novels, but short stories, poetry, and podcasts. With something for every attention span.
Tracy Reed’s ability to capture an audience is unmatched. Her body of work has been described as a host of stimulating adventures and invigorating expression.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I'm talking primarily about the first part since there is a second book, who knew?!?!😄😄😄 It's not often that a clean, Christian story can hold my attention, I am not a freak *whispered quietly*😂😂😂, but this one did. It was sexy and hot without the sex. I think that made it more real to me. Creating and conveying that kind of intimacy and passion without sex is not easy to do, in real life or in a book. It was...nice. A change of pace if you will. Kudos to the author, Tracy Reed.
Alright Tracy Reed, you did your thing with this book. I loved all the characters especially Alex and Moses. All the secrets, betrayal, twists, romance had me wanting to stay up all night to finish the book.
i won a copy of The Alex Chronicles: What My Friends Don't Know by Tracy Reed in a giveaway for free on Goodreads First-Reads. Really excited to read this book. Will post review when finished. :)
UPDATE: 4/26/16 Just received my copy in the mail today from the GR contest!! It's the week before finals now, but I will most definitely be digging into this book soon after the semester is over. This book is much more gorgeous in person than anticipated. I love my butter covers, and black spines are my favorite. No doubt it will call to me from the shelf. Very pretty spine on this book with the pink writing against the black. Also, I love the font choice inside the book, especially, the title headings. Fancy! :) Anyway, long update, but excited to finally have my hands on this book. Can't wait to read it. :)
Alex had a secret, actually more than one, and they were two decades old. She had not confided in anyone about them this whole time. To complicate matters even more, she met her ex, who was centered around those secrets. Good thing she met this beautiful man who rescued her from that awkward situation. But now she was faced with the ex who wanted her back and this new man who had kissed her once, and with that one kiss, she felt as if she were claimed.
While I am in the process of expanding the genres I read, I came across this book and thought, why not? And while this book was advertised as an African American experience, it really did not feel that way to me. It felt more like a Christian American experience to me with African American characters, but hey, what do I know? All I can say is that I liked it.
While this was not my original cup of tea or genre, as I grew up on Action & Adventure along with Fantasy and Sci-fi, the author did make this a very good read. :D I may read the rest of the series, but for now, I’ll give it five stars out of five stars.
Secrets. Lies. Threats. And an unforgettable kiss.
Alex Millers secret was a big one. I have a love-hate relationship with this character throughout this book. I was constantly shouting at her in my head…
I don’t know how the author managed to make the passion without any naughtiness stand out so much. It truly is a talent! Massive well done Tracy Reed! I applaud you!
I loved the ending! It makes me so happy when stories end like this, but it’s not over yet!! The last page of the book was a snippet from the next one, and it’s confused me dearly! Well enough to rip the next book open quickly to find out what’s going on!
I would have loved to give this five stars, however the punctuation, or lack there of, drove me insane. It was only every now and then, but how can speech-marks go missing?
Secrets. Lies. Threats. And an unforgettable kiss.
"With one kiss, he branded me his."
Alex Miller has a secret which she's kept buried in the cellar of her heart for close to twenty years. A secret so powerful it could destroy her first love and the fantasies of a life she longed for.
Or she can leave the past behind for passion and love with a man willing to give her the reality she desires.
Loved it, had a bit of difficulty following the stories at first but then it flowed. Damn I love Moses, you did well with his character. Chloe seems unsure of what she really wants. I hope Bas and Kendall works out. Alex took too long whew I wanted to slap her. Will definitely look up the other books
What My Friends Don't Know (The Alex Chronicles Book 2)
I started this series reading book 2. I missed the first book introducing the characters. I found the story engrossing and difficult to put down. The relationship between the group of women and their relationship with God was real and beautiful. The friendship among the women paints a picture of what a true friendship is....sharing the good and bad experiences. Sharing the secrets you thought you would not be able to share with anyone...then getting the support and acceptance of knowing they will always be there for you. I enjoyed Alex and Moses' journey to love and friendship. Enjoyed your style of writing. Look forward to reading the other books in the series. You have a new fan.
Dnf at the end of chapter 9. I’m so lost with this book. I feel like I’m very late to a party I didn’t even know it’s happening and don’t know what it’s about. We are immediately thrown into the the story, not a bad thing usually, but who are these characters? What’s happening? I don’t want to wait any longer to find out.
I thought this story was ok. It’s an easy read with a good amount of drama. It was a little difficult to keep up with all the multiple characters’ stories but that may be because I didn’t read the first book.
