Flame of Cytherea

Rate this book
Justin is just a normal man. Eighteen years old. When he heard the woman's scream from the alley, he couldn't help but try and save her.

It didn’t go well, and now he finds himself in a strange new world with no idea of what is going on or even how he got there. He knows nothing about the people, customs, laws, rules of dating and absolutely nothing about magic...

WARNING: This book contains explicit sexual content between a man and a few different women, but all separately. All sex scenes are MF only. This book also has a mostly reformed Greek Goddess, armies, magic, battles, a dark god, a virgin princess, a foul mouthed warrior woman, slavery, misogynists who meet a sticky end, kingdoms, and one overprotective father. No actual deer or rabbits were harmed in the making of this book.

I was born and raised on Long Island and always had two hobbies...

I loved computers, and I read books voraciously.

I've been working in the computer industry for twenty years, and have continued to read a large number of books. On a whim, I started writing erotic short stories online, and to my surprise they were always highly rated, and more than that, I found I loved to write. Since then I have worked at improving my writing, and started publishing on Amazon.

I liked this book. I have been on a D.R. Rosier kick lately so I picked this one up. It is similar to most of his stories except for the fact that the main male character Justin wasn't the bad-ass, the women he surrounded himself with were.

Justin tried to help save a woman who was being raped on earth when he was killed. A Goddess looked into his heart and knew he was a good man so sh brought him to a different world. A world of magic. He runs into a woman Kat, who has magic that allows her to turn into a tiger. On this world the goddess has given everyone talents, some more useful than others. There is an immediate attraction and they end up having sex. One of the things that attracted Kat to Justin was that he treated her with respect and didn't mind working for a woman, which was not something normal on this world. They are attacked by a neighboring kingdom and Justin finds out he has his own power. He is a flame of Cytherea, which gives him the power to negate enemy magic, refresh and restore people. This is one of the greatest powers on this world but there is a catch. It is a power of healing, love and protection but not violence. So when Justin sees people getting attacked and he wants to try and kill them, his power goes away. Justin needs to constantly focus on his feelings of love in order to keep his power. Along the way he meets Nora, a woman with a talent for air, Sally - a witch with the power of magic, and the kings daughter Nicci, who can transform into a phoenix. Justin and his women need to fight the forces of a dark god that has invaded this world - one of cruelty and pain.

Justin was kind of a weak character, but I didn't mind it much based on the context of the story. I thought of him as a cleric in a world of warriors. The cleric might be the weakest character class but he also might be the most important.

Overall I enjoyed the story and will read the next one.

More often than not, a book description fails to impress me. Usually after reading said book I rate it, wondering how such a bland, i'm-just-like-every-other-book-in-this-genre description got created for such a [insert appropriate adjectives for specific title here] book.
This is why I read reviews. I want people's thoughts; why they loved it, why they hated it; why they love to hate it, or hate that they love it.
As of now, this book has no reviews, so I hope this helps those considering reading this:

With some books, you could say "It's a novel with some sex". With Flame of Cytherea, it's more like "It's some sex with novel pieces".
It's basically a watered down Fimbulwinter, just a lot shorter, less world building, character building, a less-explained magic system... Don't get me wrong, the plot (or the idea behind the plot) is cool, but personally the book seems a bit premature.

But enough of my thoughts for now... The description is a bit sparse so I'll fill it out a little:

Justin is just a normal eighteen-year-old from earth until he tries to save a woman about to be raped in a dark alley (the alley must be dark, that's just how these things go, of course). The would-be rapists gun him down and run off, leaving him to die, until he is saved by a strange woman, (who we later know as 'Cytherea', the goddess of the world he is transported to).
When he wakes, he's in a strange land wearing different clothes and speaking (as well as understanding) a language he knows isn't English. He soon meets Katrina, a girl who can shapeshift into a tiger. She works at the local inn, proceeds to hire him and explain the world and some of it's customs. The kingdom they are in is called Abelaweth, each person has a natural power "given by the goddess", a neighboring kingdom has started worshiping a dark god and now sends raiders to their kingdom's small towns and villages. His power is unknown to him until, after sleeping with Katrina, the village is attacked by said raiders from Egeria. About to be hauled off as a slave, he discovers his power is the legendary "Flame of Cytherea"; a golden fire that is meant to protect and is triggered by love and compassion. It cancels out other people's abilities, heals and destroys weapons.
At this point, we are introduced to 4 women; a female soldier who's comrades were slaughtered by the Egerians, a powerful yet hobbled mage who has always been told never to reveal herself to others lest her and her family be hunted down and killed, a self-centered young princess who is determined to prove herself to her father and others, and a lowly servant in the heart of the Egerian castle. All are powerful in their own way, but can they find each other in time to stop the dark god?

While all the characteristics of a potential high-fantasy series are present (kingdoms, magic, gods and goddesses, traveling, armies and battles, an evil foe to defeat, lots of sex) it just seems... tiny. I seriously don't mean to demean the author or his work in any way; I don't often write reviews with an obvious (or even subtle) negative connotation but I'd like to give an honest review for potential readers.
The reason I call this tiny isn't because of it's size (though this sort of thing does tend to be larger), but because of the amount of the world we see (or don't). We know that there are at least 2 kingdoms; we see 2 armies (or bits of them during specific skirmishes), a few little towns and a modest city description, that's all. Also, while I usually enjoy fast-paced books, this one seems... Beyond that. A little introspection never hurt anyone (and a lot just gives us plots like "you know nothing, john snow"...). This book has none. A problem is identified, characters introduced, each one has some major epiphany, .

If you like light reading, lots of sex and a predictable plotline you might enjoy this book.
If you like this general theme (people displaced to another world, gods and goddesses, magic, battles, lots of sex), then I highly suggest Fimbulwinter.

Sooo, I can see what people were saying about the MC being pretty much weak. He didn't do too much after the beginning of the book. I figured since he was a ninja like, he would be kicking ass and taking names, but in the end, it was like watching Charlies Angels....and instead of 3 there were 4....and lost of sex....like a lot....not that I'm complaining. With that said, overall, it was a pretty good book. A nice short read. So, like with most of the books I seem to be reading. If you don't like Harem's, sex, blood, death, and more sex and fantasy worlds...skip this book. If you do....Give this a read.

One word of caution....The ending to this is kinda anticlimactic. Still a good book though.

Solid fun read

Fantasy alternate world magic harem adult situations
Justin, the brave MC, bravely puts himself between a street gang and their intended victim. His bravery is witnessed, and before he dies, he is healed, modified, and transported to another world, where he soon meets Kat, the shape shifting tiger girl. And so the adventure begins. It's a fun read, but it's also in need of a good editor. If you can ignore the overlong sentences and occasional typo, it's an entertaining read. I bought the sequel.
