Muse of The Match: A Sports Romcom

Rate this book
Mary Kate Lowe is a nineteen-year-old singer.
Well—technically, she's a chicken-feeding, crop-hauling farm girl who wants to be a singer. Her SoundCloud boasts a modest following of ten, but when one of her tracks unexpectedly lands in the hands of a music label, her dreams suddenly don’t seem so far off.

Enter Jack Gray.
Nineteen (almost twenty), England’s former football darling, and currently public enemy number one after that World Cup incident. Talented, brooding, and carrying enough emotional baggage to fill a tour bus, Jack needs an escape—and his grandma’s sleepy hometown seems like the perfect hideout. Conveniently, it's also Mary Kate’s.

She’s starstruck—who wouldn’t be? But when her family lands a deal to chauffeur Jack around on his peace-seeking countryside tour, she’ll have to squash her crush and play it cool. Easy, right?

Throw in a historic manor, a brief hospital detour, one pretend marriage to please a sweet old couple, and a growing connection neither of them saw coming—and you've got The Muse of The Match.

So, are you intrigued?

Hi!! I'm the author of this book and I'm currently reading my own book, because at the end of the day, I wrote this book for myself first and then for other people. I've had people close to me tell me this book is undoubtedly mine because there are so many elements that represent me as a person. So if you do end up liking it, it's the greatest compliment and form of accomplishment I could ever wish for in a lifetime. I love love love romcoms and when the idea for this book came to me, I knew I had to develop it, because it would be something I would LOVE to read. That said, I also know this might not be everyone's cup of tea and I understand that.
If you read this book and end up liking it or even loving it, please leave a review behind because I really want to know!!

Okay, listen. This book has everything a perfect rom-com should have—and I mean everything. From enemies-to-lovers to fake marriage to that absolutely chaotic, delicious “one bad decision in one night because they’re married” trope. I was eating it up like it was the last dessert on earth.

Let’s talk about Jack and Katie’s road trip, because—oh my gosh—it was so, so, so good. Every moment felt like something straight out of a movie you want to rewatch forever. The banter? Perfect. The tension? Off the charts. The chemistry? Explosive.

And then there’s that angry love confession in the rain. If that scene doesn’t make your heart explode into glitter, I don’t know what will. Honestly, if A Muse of the Match isn’t great, then no book is great. Period.

I read it in one sitting—well, technically two, because I had to work (boo responsibility)—but even while working, I kept sneaking in pages. Picture me at the kitchen table, apron on, book open, pretending to work but actually living for every single page. That’s how addictive it is.

If you loved Dear Anne, Anne with an E, or Bridgerton, buckle up. There’s a heartfelt letter scene that’ll destroy you in the best way possible, and a ballroom moment that rivals any Mr. Darcy–Elizabeth Bennet dance. And get this—he pays for it in secret because he knows she wouldn’t accept it. Excuse me? Gentleman behavior unlocked.

And me, who normally hates time gaps in books? I didn’t mind a single second of the six-month jump. That’s how good the story is—it earns every moment.

This book doesn’t just make you feel—it suffocates you with how good it is. I’m not exaggerating when I say it owns my entire soul.

If you’re a Lynn Painter fan, or just a fan of falling in love with fictional people who ruin your emotional stability in the best way—read this book. Like, now.

Final Verdict: Absolute perfection. Six stars. Out of five. WAUWIE

I had the pleasure to be one of the first people to read this book. It is such an comprehensive yet indulging read. The fast paced dialogue (especially of the two main characters) keeps you engaged and eager for more at all times.
This is a love story, simple as they come, boy meets girl and they fall in love. But behind that uncomplicated theme is a very rich prose that beautifully uncovers a much more interesting and original story that factors in two very complex main characters as well as adoring side ones.
From a tiny little town in England, to the rode of said country and finally to its very capital, many fights, marriages, drunk confessions and angry kisses. This is what makes this story so good. It is about love, but not just romantic. It's about having a fiery passion for one's dream, about being kind to strangers, about appreciating family, about listening to friends and remembering origins, while building new paths.
M.K. Lewis has done a remarkable work with this book and I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that this is only the first of many, many more successful art pieces of hers. A modern day Jane Austen, a rising Christina Lauren, M.K. Lewis shows the promise to be one of the greats of Young Adult Romance Literature in our time.
In conclusion, Muse of the Match does not disappoint and it is a must read for today's lovers of the genre it incorporates.

This book had me intrigued from the first page. At first I thought it would be a simple cute little rom-com, one with a breakup over nothing some misunderstanding, then a confession in the rain and they live happily ever after. This book was anything but that.

It came with so many different points it was amazing. Everything down to the music and bonus highlights, and the kids were amazing. My favorite part obviously being the Wilson’s house, and the letter. This book went through so many emotions covering different topics about different people. I absolutely love this book. Also, what I love most is how they didn’t just get back together right after a day. They were apart for 6 months. 6 months and 2 weeks. He saw her, he apologized, she denied him even though she still loved him. Then eventually the dub dad (Daniel) came in and saved the day. I truly do think they still would’ve found themselves together, but it would’ve taken longer.

This book truly deserves to be turned into a movie. Not only would it go crazy, people would love it for years and years to come.

M.K. Lewis, you’ve truly outdone yourself with this book. I devoured it in just three days, reading every spare second I could find in the middle of work. It’s an easy, engaging read—but what makes it truly special is the heart behind it. The characters are witty, relatable, and so well-written that I saw myself reflected throughout the whole story. Mary Kate Lowe and Jack Gray completely stole my heart. Their dynamic is electric—full of banter, chemistry, and unspoken tension. It’s clear the author poured her whole self into this project, and it shows on every single page. I can’t wait to see what she creates next.
