A petite, a pixie cut blonde (for now) dressed in jeans and a San Diego "Hard Rock Couture" t-shirt, Ericka Santana could pass as a teen on her way to the mall and not the thirty-five year old woman that has seen tough times. As I catch a glimpse of the small cross tattoo on her hand, Ericka tells us her story.
Ericka was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She was only a year old when her father died. His passing left her mother to assume the role of both parents. Her mother worked long, extensive hours to provide for her children. She was strict and demanded respect. She was both mother and father and often impatient with her children. Not understanding her mother's situation, Ericka grew to be afraid of her. But Ericka insists she had a happy childhood and isn't looking for sympathy.
When Ericka was nine years old, she found a firecracker. And as any curious and mischievous child would, Ericka found a way to light it. Thinking it was a sparkler, she held the firecracker right in front of her face. The firecracker exploded! The sound was so loud, she became dizzy. Afraid of what her mother might do to her as punishment, Ericka kept her own secret. The vibrating sounds of her footsteps sounded like canon booms in her head but she still kept her secret. She would stick her head out the window of the moving car; hear the wind whistle in one ear and not the other. But she still kept her secret. It was a year before she saw a doctor for her hearing problems. She was finally able to tell someone what had happened to her. The doctor discovered that her right eardrum had completely ruptured and her left one was severely damaged. Believing education would be easier to obtain for a slightly deaf girl in the U.S., her mother sent her to live with her sister. Ericka enrolled in public school and wore hearing aids throughout junior high. The hearing aids stopped working for her by the time Ericka completed the 10th grade. Feeling out of place and without any special needs support, she opted to drop out.
Ericka was eighteen when she became pregnant. Her passport had expired and rather than risk getting stuck in Mexico, Ericka decided to stay in Texas. She married her high school sweetheart, moved to Minnesota and had two more children. Life in Minnesota was difficult on a single income and the family hit hard times. After six years, she and her family moved back to South Texas.
We find ways of coping when life gets tough. Ericka chose to read books. She has accumulated over two thousand digital books and has read every one. It was through reading the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer that Ericka realized she wanted to write. She knew she had a knack for storytelling. Able to recount a story more than once and with the same precise detail, she started researching what she needed to do to become a writer. Eventually she began taking notes on the story she wanted to write. The plot and the characters started to flow.
Looking at Ericka, you would never know she is completely deaf or that she is reading your lips. Reading her writings, all in English, you would never know she only speaks Spanish. Ericka does not know sign language. She was never given the opportunity so she never learned. But none of this affects her spirit; it drives her dream.
Ericka currently works as a Sales Representative at Santana's Wigs & Hair Extensions. She is married to her high school sweetheart Alex and along with their three children, resides in Brownsville, Texas. She is currently working on the next volume of her series, Turbulent Desire Series, available early 2015.

I had the opportunity to grab this book when it was in a free promotion. I don't like to read boring books even if the book is free so when I found this book I learned that it was from a new author and was about to pass but the cover and description of the book caught my attention and decided to give it a chance.
WOW!!!!!! I loved this book from the start to the end!!!!!! This author knows how to keep the reader interested without that much information that sometimes I find it exasperating and wants to just skip it to the next scene.
I can't said what's coming next because the story is a blend of mystery and emotions, a masterpiece.
The plot was fun and well written. The characters very compelling and inspired a strong devotion to me . The way Sky reacted to JC (hottest Italian) is how any girl would react. Madi and Sky friendship was a LOL calling each others BITCH was very natural and believable.
I'm not going to spoil the end with details but Author Ericka Santana surprised me!!!! I was not expecting it....OMG!!!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SECOND BOOK!!!!!!

The story builds up gently and allows the reader to wonder what will
happen. The ending leaves several questions, which next book might

Ericka Santana is a new author with a great breakout book. This book kept me captivated from the first page to the last. Interesting characters and a plot ending that will keep you hanging to the next book ( I complain about this but down deep I really like it when this happens). I would highly recommend reading this book!

Ericka Santana is a new author and she is in the right step! I really enjoyed this book! JC & Sky are great characters. Really loved the story and I fell in love with JC.

Sky is just turning 18, she's young, sheltered by her mother and about to find out what dirty lies are! JC is a very handsome young man who's takin a liking to Sky, but are his intentions good or bad! It starts out as a lovely experience but turns cold in more ways then one! Sky not only is looking for answers concerning JC, but also about her mother! Great read!

Great start to the series.... The story start off in the POV of JC- the to die for Italian boy with the accent to match then continues in the POV of Skye- the 18yr old naive American. Fast paced and great storyline. Can;t wait to see what comes next for these two.

Sky turns 18 and is naive. She meets a stranger in a foreign country and falls in love. JC hurts her in the end and she feels her heart is crushed.

Deception follows Sky, a young girl who just turns 18 years old and her family and best friend go to Italy. In Italy Sky meets a very attractive Italian man and from there fireworks takes off. To me Deception was a sweet story in one sense because of how naive and innocent Skylar is. She doesn't know better and she falls head over heels in love with this guy after a few days.
I found it hard to like Skylar and her best friend because of how immature they both seemed. It didn't feel like I was reading a story about two mature 18 year old girls. It felt like I was reading a story about two little 16 year old girls who are just finding out that boys exist.
The sexual situations weren't all that hot for me. Again because of Sky and not being able to connect to her at all. JC on the other hand, he's on his own level.
Over all I believe Deception to be a cute story about a girl falling in love for the first time. I can't say that Sky was stupid for falling in love so quick the way she had, because that's how my hubby and I happened but her maturity level annoyed me.

Absolutely Love this book the torn relationship between Sky and JC is exactly that torn. They take you on a roller coaster ride like you have never seen. Skyler shows you a side of her you have never seen before and JC is well JC only more handsome and rich. Both \have been through tragedy in their past and truly need each other but Sky fights it as long as she can. Madi and Kyeren, Sky's best friends are by her side through thick and thin, but wait is there romance in the cards for them as well. The sexual tension in this book is so worth the read and I totally recommend it to anyone who loves a good Adult book. Thank You Ericka for such wonderful entertainment the visualization in this book is vivid and amazing.

Sky is this beautiful 18 year old woman who really hasn't even been truly introduced into the world yet and she is naive too....
JC is this handsome Italian man who can charm the panties off any woman. But he has a secret that he is hiding and one night he turns into this lost soul!!!
When I read the ending all I wanted to do is comfort Sky because I have been there before! OMG and when she said her last line I literally got goosebumps!
Ericka Santana bravo!!! Now I need book 2!

Deception is a well written and well crafted book by Ericka. The story telling leaves you with wanting more from the characters and story lines. Sky and JC's story is one for the books for sure, to be a young girl and have the kind of experience all young girls want makes this story amazing. JC is like most men wanting the world and hoping to have found that world in a Sky.The visualization in this book is wonderful, I could see everything in my minds eye and that is the kind of story I love. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good Adult read.

It is now 4 years later and Skylar is now a top fashion model living in New York with her best friend Madi and their other roommate Kyeren. Sky lost her mom 4 years ago and still feels guilty about not knowing that her mom was sick. While on a runway show in Paris she sees JC again and all those feelings come back. Jc is now a billionaire and is known as Jean Carlo DePandi and a playboy.
This is definitely a must read to find out what happens between the two of them. Would definitely recommend to all as a must read. Congrats Ericka Santana on another great book

Totally loved this book. The chemistry between Skylar and JC is electric . This book will draw you in and leave you wanting more. Skylar is a model and living in New York with her best friend and another roommate. JC is a billionaire and known as a bit of a womanizer. If you love sexual tension when reading then you have to read this book it won't disappoint . I totally recommend it to everyone especially if you like adult books then it's a must read. I can't wait to read more. Ericka Santana is an exceptional writer xx

Wow. So different from other serials I've read. I'm not much of a serials reader and honestly didn't realize it until I started it. So good!
Sky seems a bit immature to me. Yes, she's 18 (that's usually a no go for me as well) but I liked the fact that the story is supposed to pick up a few years later.
JC.....is he really a dickweed? Is he really just hiding how broken he is? Did he break because of the accident? Was he really just trying to make Sky hate him so he could continue to grieve in his own god awful way?
Hmmmmm.....guess I'll have to read the next one!

Skylar has just turned 18 & her mother who has pretty much kept her locked up her whole life takes her on a trip to Italy. Her mother is dating her best friend's father so the 2 of them go to Italy as well. Sky meets JC as soon as she gets there & is immediately swept off her feet. We are not really told anything about JC except he lives with his parents on their small vineyard. His vineyard is down the road from where Sky & her family are staying. I'm anxious to read the next one.

She's a new author, she's good,love the way captivate reader's stick to the book, but we're needs more books about this story. Highly recommended for YA

Great start to this series! Young characters with a good story line which leaves you wanting more and wondering why! You know as they grow (even though she's a little younger and more naive than him) time and maturity just brings more. I found it enjoyable from start to finish and was left with that I just can't wait for the next book feeling! I highly recommend. If you are looking for a new author that can keep a book moving this is it. Spot on Erika great job!!

This is the 2nd book in the series. It's 4 yrs later & Skylar is a fashion model living in NYC. She is having fun with her BFF Madi & their other room mate, Kyeren. Sky is still feeling guilty about her Mom dying from cancer, she feels there is so much she didn't know about her. While doing a runway show in Paris she sees JC, who is now know as Jean Carlo a very rich, playboy vineyard owner.

Loved Loved Loved this book! I couldn't put it down, done it just a few hours! Great characters and we'll written. Enjoyed the innocence of Skylar and the dark JC. What a whirl wind romance with tragedy. Can not wait to begin #2!
