Fairies Never Fall

Rate this book
A fairy whose touch is poison. A cuddly human who’s immune.

Three years out of prison, I came to the Sanctum for a fresh start.

What I got was a job serving things that go bump in the night and a mysterious regular who hates me. Lysander isn’t just out of my league, he’s an honest-to-god fairy prince. Sparkly wings, pretty face, dark backstory — the works. My coworkers call him Your Highness. He won’t even shake my hand.

In fact, he gets weird every time I go to touch him, whether it's by accident or... not. Because Lysander has a secret: no one has touched his poisonous skin in years. Until me.

The lethal magic that keeps everyone at wing’s length? I’m immune.

I’m the only one who sees past his hand-tailored clothes and haughty looks to the shy, awkward guy underneath, who doesn’t know what a cellphone is and has never made a real friend. So when it turns out my mundane human touch chases the nightmares of his past away, I’m signing up to be his platonic cuddle-buddy before I know it.

Keeping a safe distance from Lysander’s perfect ass is hard enough, but then he makes it clear he wants to know what else he’s been missing out on, and he wants me to show him — even if it takes a hands-on demonstration.

Fertility rituals, surprise appendages, and royal roleplay are just part of the package when you’re more-than-just-friends with a fairy prince.

Loved the idea of a poisonous fairy connecting with a human but the story doesn't capture my attention anymore.

I don't know what the matter with me is lately, but every new book I started in the last weeks was/is either meh or too boring to see through.
If this continuous I'll have to settle for comfort rereads, oh and K.L. Noone and R.Cooper's backlists, as those are stories that work for me when nothing else does.

If you're looking for a lovely, completely uneventful, angst-free fairy tale, then this might be the one for you.
How can I put it... I love this story, it has a lot of potential and interesting ideas... unfortunately, it drags on a bit, but it's not too bad... I was waiting the whole time for something bad to happen... but nothing did, which is a bit weird. And that still bothers me, even though I really love this book and actually really like cozy stories and don't need to be scared.
There's a bit of action, heartbreak, and conflict. It's not as if it's all completely watered down, but somehow, I feel like something is missing.
Regardless, it's a really great story, and I really like how Lysander, the prince, is portrayed here. How he slowly opens up with Ezra's help. Absolutely sweet and with a nice dash of spice.
So, I hope there will be a sequel at some point, because there are far too many interesting characters here and I would really like to find out more about how the relationships between humans and monsters develop.

Even his wings are tied. The bondage spreads them wide, showing off their full glory. His legs are bent with his toes pointed toward the back of his head, his arms arranged to either side, and there’s a rope pulling his long hair up, making it seem like it’s blowing in the wind.
What hits me hardest is the look on his face, though. There’s no mistaking the bliss. The peacefulness. My nerves flutter. Jolts of adrenaline rush down my arms. I need to look away, but my eyes are glued to the scene. I’m not getting a hard-on — nope. What I’ve got is undeniably worse.
I have a goddamn crush.
😳💞😳

He’s curled around my shoulder, arm across my chest and his face pressed into my shirt. I can barely see the flutter of his eyelashes from this angle. My heart thumps.
The more significant problem is that kissing isn’t the only thing I want to do to Lysander. I want to understand him.
I want to protect him.
🫠🫠🫠

He’s opening up like a pretty spring flower. I do my best to reward him for his courage the only way I know how — by locking the door and making him shake and cry out and pull my hair. When his knees go loose and he finally catches his breath, I rest my cheek on his thigh and wonder how I got so lucky. 💞😳💞

cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute

i'm crying this is one of the few good reads i've had these months omfg !!

this was soo cute like the comfort and the intimacy??? hello?? i'm melting

the characters are so fun (i would kill for fitzie but honestly ezra and lys were also amazing mc's)

anyway, 4 stars cuz:

1. the pacing for their relationship was kind of quick (but their interactions were mostly enough to make me feel the chemistry)

2. some plot lines could be wrapped up better - i hoped for more lys-elsabeth bonding, since they are supposed to be really close

3. the climax was lowkey anticlimactic - it was over pretty quickly, and i wasn't really surprised at the twist either (and the twist also made the climax lose some tension)

sooo yeah! while it's not the greatest book, i really enjoyed it yay

𐀔 A touch-starved fairy prince and a human trying to start a new life. 𐀔
A sexy & sweet monster romance, Fairies Never Fall was a simple yet highly enjoyable read.

“So hot,” he gasps. “And tight. I don’t know if I’ll fit. Fuck. I could come like this instead, just…" His hips jerk. “Could put my cock in next to yours. Would you be into that? My come inside your slit.”

Umm, yeah. Very hot. Virgin monster + a dirty talking human = a very happy me.
The plot wasn’t anything special, but I liked this secret monster world. Low angst and high heat, an easy breezy romance full of good feels.

“I want forever, Ezra.” “Then you can have forever.”

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

CW and NSFW info (spoilers):
- Sexuality awakening
- Virgin MC
- Atypical anatomy (reminded me of Wyn/Moth, iykyk)
- Multiple orgasms
- Rimming
- Mostly top/bottom (one switch scene)
- Bondage

🧚🏻‍♂️ARC REVIEW🧚🏻‍♂️

This had an unlucky excon human who discovers monsters are real and he's working for and with them. And a touch starved (because he's touch is poisonous to the rest of the monsters) sheltered sad fairy who discovers he loves to cuddle with his human and get railed by him. They both have a sad backstory and they both have lessons to learn and hurts to heal. They do it together and with the help of the rest of their lil' monster found family.
The rhythm was a bit irregular at some points and it alternated romance with slice of life moments, which was quite fun.
All in all, a fun read. Loved the insatiable lil' fairy prince, touch starved closed off characters are always great to read.

I picked this book because of the beautiful cover.
I thought the book was a bit of a mess, the pace and the tone was off (at times serious, then not), there was too much going on. The kink aspect felt forced, as well as the romance between the MCs. I liked the worldbuilding and the characters but it was all underdeveloped and all over the place.

Did anyone else find this book so weird and confusing? I felt like I missed a prequel novella that explained all the world building because it’s not really explained. So monsters coexist in the human world- how that works isn’t explained too much. Monsters can make themselves look human to blend in- but somehow still keep separated from humans and humans never accidentally show up at their club or any of their large outdoor festivals? And Ezra finds out monsters exist and doesn’t ask a million questions, instead he is all “ok cool monsters exist, guess I better start having sex with them” he barely is shocked or asks any questions. Some questions don’t get answered until 60%. And if someone says to you randomly “I am now fertile” like wouldn’t you say excuse me please explain. And lysander skin is poisonous and deadly for other monsters to touch but he is frequently in the crowded club. There isn’t ever an announcement like “poisonous dude coming through please watch out” and if monsters exist in the human world with human technology why are they still using crows to send messages. Seems so inefficient when email exists.
Like I read this at night before bed for the last several days so I dozed off a lot and probably missed a lot so someone please explain because the world building made no sense to me. I don’t think I’ll try more from this author.

Ezra is an ex-con, looking for a job.

Lysander is a fairie prince, stuck in the human city while looking for his sister Elsabeth. He’s been in hiding his whole life, so he’s a little… sheltered.

Ezra gets a bartender job at a club, The Sanctum, where Lysander resides.

They are both curious of each other.

Ezra finds out everything is not what it seems when his boss hands him an amulet. When he puts the amulet on he can see the monsters.

‘I vowed never to be in that place again. Nothing, not even facing a whole secret world full of monsters, is going to put me back there.’

Lysander thinks Ezra is disgusted by the real him , but he actually has a crush.

They grow closer . Ezra finds out other monsters can’t touch a fairy. They’ll get magic poisoning and die.

‘I’ve clearly missed some important memo, and it hits me immediately — that’s why he freezes up after every one of my extremely casual, not-at-all on purpose gestures. Not because he’s standoffish or awkward, but because I’m literally the only person who can do that without dying.’

Lysander asks Ezra to hold him at night to keep the nightmares at bay.

They share a kiss. Then sexy supernatural times with fairy anatomy. Orgasms. I wonder if male fairies can get pregnant?

‘A fertile fairy is cause for celebration. It’s been so long since I had something to celebrate’

More sexy times. Lysander is insatiable

All this talk about fertility- Lysander is definitely getting pregnant.

Ezra’s bestie Fitzie is in town.

Lysander’s sister has been sighted, in a fight with azeroths -a creepy undead cult.

Ezra finds out Lysander is 300 years old.

“That’s worse,” I mutter. “Lysander is gonna live for eight hundred more years or something, and I’ll be dead by eighty.” “Well, technically my magic will seep into you and equalize our lifespans if we spend the rest of our lives —”

They don’t find Lysander’s sister.

Ezra gets the flu or something.

“I want to know everything about you,” I tell him honestly. A smile flickers over his lips. “Me, too. About you, I mean. The good. The bad. The quirks that make you you. The little things no one else has ever gotten to see. All of it gets stored away up here.”

Fitzie meets Lysander and is unimpressed.

Ezra brings Fitzie to the club, tells him the truth about everyone and offers him an amulet so he can see with his own eyes.

Watchers from the Monster Protection Agency declare Ezra is in danger from the Lysander and seperate them. Ezra tries to fight to stay together but Lysander agrees for his safety.

“I love you,” he whispers. I clench my fists in his shirt. “Ez, please.” “It’s okay.” He strokes the spot where my missing wing would be with his thumb, and I feel his lips press my temple. “I understand.” Then he’s gone.’

Ezra also loses his job.

Lysander and Ezra secretly meet up. His friends throw Ezra a birthday party.

There’s a big dramatic showdown.

‘“I’ll be around for as long as you want.” “Forever?” he asks softly. “Everyone says the only permanent vow a fairy is capable of is the King’s Oath. But not me. I want forever, Ezra.” “Then you can have forever,” I promise, my heart pounding. Fuck. Are we getting married?’

Happily ever after and no pregnancy 😅

A cute & steamy slice-of-life MM paranormal romance where monsters hide in plain sight.

Ezra is an ex-con who got into bad company and drugs in the past, and now wants to clean up his life but feels nobody will give him a chance. Apparently except an eccentric bar / kink club that turns out to be full of hidden monsters.

There he meets Lysander, a wildling / fairy who lives with anxiety after his family has been hunted and nearly destroyed by mysterious magic-devouring creatures, with only his sister remaining alive whom he's searching for. He's also very touch-starved because his skin is poisonous to every other monster (but luckily not humans), and quite a rope bunny. There's also an element of creative anatomy in the form Lysander is a prince of wildlings and considered a fertility symbol in their ceremonies, which fits thematically for the story. But he also has a dangerous and protective side of a more primal monster, where he becomes more plant-like in features (thorns, bark). Definitely a unique type of monster and not a common fae.

The bar / club is full of diverse monsters like minotaurs, dryads, gargoyles, water nymphs, dragonkin and there's even a non-binary half-dryad half-shadow.

The relationship between Ezra and Lysander is full of mutual care, tenderness, protectiveness and vulnerability as both of them carry their insecurities and regrets over failures of their pasts.

Recommended to fans of high-heat slice-of-life monster romances where monsters mingle in the human world and have their gym / bar / cafe / club / you name it. You'll get your dose of spice and cinnamon rolls too.

I've received the ARC through Sera Bishop's mailing list. I'm leaving my honest opinion as a voluntary review.

I really loved the vibes between Ezra and Lysander. They're both so lonely and I love the way they find each other. The world building Sera Bishop puts together here is amazing, and I really hope this becomes the first in a series so I can continue living in the world of The Sanctum and all the awesome characters in it.

I don't read a ton of PNR/monster romance, and there were times I was a little squicked out by the depictions of Lysander's fairy peen. There was some book I read a million years ago that described he Seelie fae's anatomy like a dog peen, and I'm betting Sera Bishop read whatever book that was too because LMAOOOOOOO. Nope, not for me. But if exotic monster peen is part of your jam, you'll love this one!

Bedroom exploits aside, I really loved the chemistry between Lysander and Ez. Lysander is the only fairy surrounded by other monsters to whom his touch is poison, and this poor rope-bunny sub needs DESPERATELY to be cuddled. Good thing Ezra is totally down for the job - even if he does find Lysander distressingly attractive. Oh, and Lys knows absolutely NOTHING about sex or even his own anatomy. Shenanigans ensue!

This is billed as a standalone, but there's definitely some set-up happening for Ezra's bestie, Fitzie, not to mention Maddox and his sexy whip-wielding Watcher...

Fairies Never Fall was a spicy, low angst, human + fairy romance that had me hooked from the start.

Ezra and Lysander were absolutely precious, and I loved them so much.

Would really love for Fitzie to have his own HEA, and hope this turns into a series as there was so many great side characters.

What to expect:
- human + monster
- ex-con + fairy prince
- friends to lovers
- secret identity (sort of, since monsters on the hush hush)
- virgin MC
- light BDSM
- undead murder cults

This was really good! I enjoyed the world build and these two falling in love. I loved watching them both over come their insecurities and finding themselves, but most of all finding each other and seeing each other for more than just their insecurities or labels that others have placed upon them.

There were some places that kind of got long for me in a few places that were kind of confusing mostly surrounding what kings did and didn’t do and Who exactly was in charge and not in charge but other than that, it was a good book the spice was Great and I love the side characters wondering if we will see Orion and Felix and a few others find their loves.

For future:
Dual POV
Switch
Could use more diversity than just the “monsters”
Relation before spice
No cheating/sharing
No om/ow

Okkkk I'm excited to talk about this book because I've been reading and posting some pretty intense books lately (all SO good but just more than I'm used to haha) and honestly I really needed a fluffy little break. Then here comes this book landing in my kindle like it's meant to be.

I love fantasy and monster romances and if they're low angst and cozy then it's basically an auto buy. This is a fun take on the supernatural with lots of different monsters and mythical creatures floating about in the modern world unbeknownst to most humans. Our human however, lands a job bartending in a supernatural bar and immediately begins to drool over Lysander, our other MC and a fairy prince currently on the run from a cult that already took down most of his family.

In this world, a fairy's touch is poisonous to other monsters so Lysander is the poster boy for touch starved. Lucky for all involved humans are immune to this poison thus providing an excellent excuse for our MCs to fall in love. Obviously.

There is just enough drama and story to keep it interesting while not being stressful, at least in my opinion. Sometimes things get heated but it's advertised as a pretty low angst romance so I knew it was all going to be fine. Lysander is sweet and shy and Ezra patiently and adoringly draws him out of his shell. Both characters actually have quite a lot of depth to them throughout the romance and I really liked this entire story. I'm hoping it turns into a series because there are a lot of other characters I would love to see get books.

Oh also there's the littlest bit of shibari.... Now you know

I am quite stunned at how amazing this book was.

The world build, the character depth, the character development, the plot, the love, the spice, the overall fantasy vibe of this book surpassed my expectations.

I mean, Sera Bishop is always putting out bangers and this may just be my favorite book out of the ones she has written already.

I am actually buzzing with excitement at what possible couples could come out and I am looking forward to seeing more of what comes out from the author.

24 year old Ezra is down on his luck, and having a hard time finding a job without a clean criminal record. He finally finds himself a gig at a club, but soon finds out that the staff and patrons are not what they seem, and the uptight yet shy regular he’s intrigued by is actually a fairy prince!

This world is so cool, with all kinds of ‘monsters’ and fairytale creatures! The cast is colourful and interesting, and makes the Sanctum seem lively!

In this book you’ll get:
-fae/human
-secret monster world + politics
-touch-starved fairy with a poisonous touch
-humans that are very chill about their new monster friends
-lots and lots of 🌶️ with monster anatomy 👀

My favourite part of the book is probably Lysander— he’s so sweet (and Ezra calls him Sweets, so cute!) Lysander is guarded usually, but so open and adoring when it comes to Ezra. His character is really cool & unique as well.

Personally, I didn’t really vibe with the overall plot, as it felt a little disconnected, and I was often rolling my eyes at the actions/choices the characters made. However, the book was still enjoyable, and I did have a laugh out loud moment! Definitely worth a read if you love fantasy and paranormal romance!

It was a little weird how nobody warned Ezra that Lysander's touch was poisonous. Seemed like it should've been on some employee manual considering how careful people were around him.

There's a whole bunch of expo dumping on the fantasy realm and explicit dialogue explaining how disconnecred Lysader was with everyone then somehow we get to 50% and Lysander's suddenly feeling like he's on friendlier terms with the other monsters after one timelapsed movie night. I get it's implied to have become a regular thing and that Ezra had been explicitly trying to teach everyone to be friendlier, but I think we should've seen more of Lysander's interactions with individual monsters (before and after the hangouts) to see the change gradually as opposed to just being a random offhand comment telling us so. I honestly didn't even know that he was being treated in a way that was unfriendly considering there wasn't enough evidence to show that he he felt that way.

Same thing for Ezra's problems outside of the bar. They showed up a few times at the start, then we randomly get a look into how bad its gotten when his friend points out his bad his apartment looks. Was there not an opportunity to mix his personal life's descent in with the romance? From 15% to 50%, we got no input on how things outside of his job were going, so to suddenly be told that he's borderline despressive felt like a big leap.

In general, the story's pacing was sort of all over the place. I didn't get whether it wanted to be a slice of life romance, a character development journey, or a mystery regarding the Lysander's sister and the people coming after them. We get very long periods of nothing sandwiches where Ezra and Lysander sort of just exist and have sex then after 20%+ of the book passes, a scene erupts suddenly advancing the mystery around Lysander's sister even though there was literally zero development around it. Like there were two separate stories and the author wanted both but didn't do any mixing, so they're not integrated with each other at all.

The climax being planned off screen then exploding out of nowhere sort of exemplified that problem. Yes, it was obvious that Ezra and Lysander sneaking around was going to lead to something bad, but the complete lack of insight into what was happening despite one of the MCs actually planning the thing was so annoying. Then Lysander basically spends the seige hiding with Ezra until the last second he beats a single Azeroth then passes out.

Everything after was probably fine, but the resolution to a story that I wasn't the biggest fan of was never going to redeem the book.

TL;DR: The book doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Long stretches of fluff suddenly broke up by action that never really has an impact on the romance until everything gets solved. There needed to be greater integration between the two parts to make a satisfying story, but that unfortunately didn't happen here for me.

**ARC received in exchange for an honest review**

I gobbled it up and loved the first half of this book so so much! Everyone who knows me can attest to my never ending love of feminine, gorgeous characters. And Lys was everything and more 🤭

On the surface this story is about a (supposedly) bratty Fairy who dances at a nightclub for monsters and whose body is lethal (literally- everyone who touches him dies). Until a human walks in who can actually see and touch him - and turns his life around. But on a deeper level Fairies Never Fall discussed anxiety, family trauma, depression and true love. The one you think you don’t deserve until it proofs you wrong by hitting you right where it hurts, just to gently stitch you together. That’s exactly what these two experiences and it was more than lovely. 😭💗

And the side characters were SO COOL AND FUNNY! I loved to get to know so many original character choices. Cudos to the author: I’d love read some of their back stories in the future 😍

I have to be honest and admit that the second half was dragging for me, after such a sweet and beautiful start. Ultimately I’d recommend it if you love monster romance, hurt/comfort, found-family tropes and a lot of cuddling 🥰

A cute and magical MM monster romance.
Lysandra is the most adorable and naive fairy prince on the run from the monsters that killed his family. Ezra is the ex-con given a second chance working at a monster club. They couldn't seem more different, but they are both what the other has been looking for.
I really enjoyed this story. The plot was low Angst with a medium amount of world building. The romance was sweet and emotion filled, with minimal drama and some good spice.
I have a feeling there could be more books in this universe, and I definitely look forward to reading more and seeing if some of the side characters get books of their own.

A very fluffy novel. There's barely a plot that only really becomes important in the latter half of the book. Lysander and Ezra were cute. I really liked the reunion between Ezra and his parents. I do wish we saw more of Elsbeth since she was a mystery character who came later in the book. Like where did she disappear to? Why didn't she reunite with her brother? The book never really delved into her relationship with Lysander and their reunion felt pretty lackluster. However I didn't really expect a book a like this to really be in depth. A nice read nonetheless

"Lysander will make you fall in love with him—he’s just searching for that one person who can touch his soul."
Ezra thought the eerie patrons at the bar where he worked were just figments of late-night hallucinations. But when he discovers they’re real—and monsters—his world spins into something dark and dangerous. Amid the chaos, it’s Lysander who brings light, making Ezra feel like he’s the only one who truly matters.
Suspenseful, tender, and charged with otherworldly mystery, this is a story where love defies fear—and monsters may just have hearts.

Loved it!

I loved Fairies Never Fall by Sera Bishop. I loved Lysander and Ezra's story. I loved how Ezra is introduced to the monsters at The Sanctuary and how he thought they were all humans during his probation period at his new job as a bartender. I loved that Lysander can't be touched by other monsters but he can be touched by humans. I loved the King's Oath scene. I hope the author writes many more books set at The Sanctuary.
