Her days are filled with new vigor as the serenity of the Cherokee Valley surrounding Watauga Lake feeds her creative muse under a fake alias. Yet her nights remain hollow, like her marriage to the senator, until she becomes obsessed by the allure of a stranger that glides by her cabin in his sailboat. Both his male form and solemn expression bleed into every painting, every midnight fantasy, until her new dream becomes reality. Lilah learns her future will remain corrupted by the past until she solves the secret behind her husband’s murder and explores her attraction to the mysterious sailor.

DISTANT OBSESSION has some major issues, making it a poor choice without some serious editing and rewriting.

Just when things are starting to look promising for artist Lilah Randall, she returns home to find her senator husband and his most recent lover murdered in her bed. Vilified by the press and public, Lilah flees to a small town where she can paint and become anonymous. Lilah enjoys the scenery, especially a sexy sailboat owner named Reece Edwards who really gets her "creative" juices flowing. Lilah's sister Ashley comes to visit and pushes the two of them together, much to their mutual delight.

But Lilah's got some serious demons since her husband's murderer was never found. Someone thinks she's got something they want, and they'll stop at nothing to make sure they get it. Former Navy pilot Reece knows how the politicians work, and he's convinced something isn't adding up. If the two of them are going to have a future, they'll need to lay the past to rest before Lilah ends up like her dead husband.

DISTANT OBSESSION is the first book by the collaborative team of M.W Davis and Ciara Gold and part I of the Cherokee Valley series. Unfortunately, there is very little to recommend about this book, from the Mensa reject heroine to the hero who can't get his ex-wife's name right (is it Julie or Helen?), I really just wanted this book to end. When Lilah's last name is spelled Randall in the book but Randal in the blurbs all over the web, you know there may be some editing issues that need to be addressed prior to publishing and requesting reviews. I won't harp on every error I found, otherwise this review would be terribly long, however between the awful formatting, syntax, grammar, spelling and consistency errors, the sheer plethora and utter variety of mistakes makes this book viable as a project for high school students to edit for class.

Now, some people can look past the poor editing and enjoy a story if it has good characters or a decent plot. DISTANT OBSESSION, however, has neither of those. Lilah is too stupid for words…I literally shook my head and wondered how the woman was able to get herself dressed in the morning. She can't put 2 and 2 together for any situation she's in, to the point that it's almost funny. Reece at least had a brain (it must be that love of puzzles and mysteries he repeatedly tells the reader about), though any time he talked about DC and politicians he became a raging asshat. The two of them had zero chemistry, and their declarations of everlasting love that happened after 2-3 dates just made me groan. The plot was yawn-inducing, confusing and poorly developed. Add the cheesetastic old-fashioned verbiage that had this book feeling like a cold war era reject and I couldn't take anymore. Even after the ridiculous cliffhanger ending, I don't have the slightest desire to find out what happens next. There is absolutely nothing about DISTANT OBSESSION that I would recommend, except to delete the file on your kindle ASAP. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...
