Courted by Fall

Rate this book
Camille Covington though she had it all: the perfect life, the perfect future, and the perfect suitor; until it went downhill just days before her 18th birthday. Now struggling to pick up the pieces, she did everything she could to not let anyone know just how depressed she'd become. She did such a good job that she fooled even herself.
Newcomer to Hyacinth, Jerod Kinsley, offered friendship but used to the more traditional way of Hyacinth life, Camille didn't know what to do with it. Set on a path of destruction, she quickly found out just how supportive her family and Jerod could be. As he and her family encouraged her on a life she never even imagined existed before, Cami began to find her inner strength. When her and Jerod's relationship solidified through the Hyacinth Courting system, she found out just how freeing discipline from the man she loved could be.

About the series "In Hyacinth" by Bree Cariad:

Hyacinth, Washington is all about old-fashioned values. In Hyacinth words like trust, honor, and kindness aren't just buzzwords. Hyacinth is a community built on tradition and trust, where men are the head of the home and women are encouraged to follow their lead.

Each story in the series is of a young woman (18-20) and her struggle to figure out who she is in this little town while at the same time going through Hyacinth's old-fashioned courting system. On their way to meet, get to know, and finally marry their princes, these heroines grow in ways they and their town never expected.

Courted by Fall is the second book in the In Hyacinth series and brings us Cami’s story. If you read book one – which I strongly recommend that you do first so that you understand the courting system of Hyacinth – then you are already familiar with some of her story as she is Alexander’s younger sister. Cami befriended the newly arrived Kathy and helped her understand some of Hyacinth’s courting system as she herself was excited about her upcoming eighteenth birthday so that her longtime friend and crush, Damian, would be able to finally court her as he promised he would do. But when Damian shows up for a dinner at Kathy’s during Courted by Discipline, we realize that he may not intend to follow through with his promise.

In the opening of Courted by Fall we find Cami seeing off Xander and Kathy as they are moving to Nashville so that Kathy can attend college. While Cami is happy for her brother and best friend, she is also sad because she will miss them and because Damian did indeed break his promise and left town in a scandalous fashion. In her grief and determined to deal with her problems on her own, she engages in behaviors that are self-destructive and ends up in the hospital where she briefly meets Jerod Kinsley. After her hospitalization, Cami is forced to reevaluate her life and what she wants out of it. As events unfold we learn that Cami is not the only one getting a second chance because she just may be Jerod’s second chance for happiness.

While I still find the courting system odd (as in, not something I would ever participate in), I really enjoyed Courted by Fall. Because book one had already introduced Hyacinth’s courting system, this book focused more on Cami herself and what she endured when her life was turned upside down and what she experienced while she got back on track, including her relationship with Jerod. I loved the way in which Cami’s family united around and for her and helped her find her way. Their support went a long way in giving her the confidence she needed to start her own consulting business – and I gotta say that I loved how the men in her life had no problem admitting to their lack of fashion sense. Typically I prefer sex in my romances, but Ms. Cariad writes the In Hyacinth series in such a way that I don’t need it. These novellas are sweet romances that make for a nice break in my reading schedule and I am already looking forward to reading Courted by Trouble.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the first book in the series, Courted by Discipline, I was really excited to read this one for two reasons.
Reason one: With how the book ended about Cami, I was just *dying* to find out what had happened, and what was going to happen to her.
Reason two: Because it would be great to see how someone who has been raised in Hyacinth approached the whole “courting” thing since they have been around for it for so long; and have been looking forward to it as well.
I can say that when I started reading the book, I was so interested and drawn into the story that I didn’t want to put it down; no matter what. I just couldn’t get enough of the story that Ms. Cariad created and the story was over way before I wanted it to be!
I did love how Cami’s character was in this book. She was your typical girl, even though she had been raised in the town she was. It was also great that she was dealing with the issues she was. It showed how *real* the town could be. I really enjoyed being able to follow long with Cami as she started to learn more about herself, and learn what it was she wanted to do with her future.
Jerod was a great character, and I loved how the relationship between them was very slow going, to the point where Cami didn’t have a clue what was going on! I thought that Jerod was a great match for her because he was able to give her something that she didn’t realize she needed.
Overall, I thought that this was a great second book in the series and I really can’t wait for the rest of the series to be released!

This is the second book in this wonderful new series that centers around Hyacinth, WA, with a community that uphold high standards with their men and women. In Hyacinth, you don't date, you ask permission to court and courting last for one year before marriage. Men must be mature and hold a job and able to support a wife. In book two we have some of the same characters from book one and this story focuses on Camille Covington. Right before her 18th birthday, her world takes a nose dive when the man she thought she would be courting left town after a scandal. Cami goes into depression and winds up in the hospital. This story covers a serious issue of depression, become so upset you throw up and start losing weight. Jerod Kinsley is new to the area but believes in the town's morals and principles. As Cami comes to terms with the changes in her life she also realizes she has a talent as a personal shopper and after helping out her Dad and Dr. Bretherton , she is contracted by Jerod to help him with his wardrobe. This story has strong moral and family values, a respect for the community, courting towards marriage, domestic discipline and a sweet story of acceptance and love. The sex is only implied. I enjoyed books one and two and am looking forward to more stories in this series.

This is the next installment in the Hyacinth series. This story is about Camille, Kathy’s friend and Xan’s little sister. She has turned 18 and expected to be courted by Damian. But, he is forced to leave the community once it come out that he has fathered a child and abandoned the mother. Cami is very hurt by this and doesn’t know how to deal with the stress. She gets so upset that she throws up. Eventually, she causes herself enough harm that she collapses and ends up in the hospital in a coma. She does recover physically, but she is still having problems with her self-worth. She meets Jerod Kinsley there. He is a therapist. Cami prefers not to speak with a man, so she gets another therapist. Months later, Jerod calls her when he sees how great a job she has done with Kathy’s dad as a personal shopper. He wants her to help him as well. As time moves on, he asks to court Cami. I really enjoyed this story. You really don’t miss the sex because the story is so well told. I give this story 4 stars.

This was a cute ,18 year old has a small mental breakdown over lost love, finds new romance all within the confines of Hyacinth a community that believes in domestic discipline, virgins until married, and no men with unattended females unless they pass a board that grants them the option to court for one year.
If you didn’t read the first book, you are dropped into this story. Although it is standalone, there needed to be some discussion of what Hyacinth is, since it is unlike anything most of us are aware of.
Children and women are subjected to spankings with paddle, birch and hand for misbehavior. The spankings weren’t graphic and there were no sexual relations until after marriage. The story was an interesting one. You cared about the characters. It had a happy ending.

Lovely sweet romance in the second book by Bree Cariad which takes place in Hyacinth a community where women are courted at 18 years of age and subject to domestic discipine and a year of courtship. Camille was having a tough time, and having family support and a sweet boyfriend, helps her deal with her issues. Mild spanking and romance without sexual relations.
