Imo this book surpasses the much more prominent 82년생 김지영.
Though technically short stories, the interconnectedness of the characters gives this collection a cohesive feel. The themes were unfamiliar to me, and I always appreciate the opportunity to get a comprehensive look of a life I’ve never lived and will never experience. Occasionally some passages were uncomfortable for me to read, which makes this book more visceral and reflective.
The more I read Korean books, the more ridiculous I found (Han) Chinese people for thinking the problems they face are uniquely theirs.
