Je suis toujours sous le charme des dessins d'Aurélie Neyret. Mon seul bémol c'est que j'aurais dû le lire plutôt en période de fêtes de fin d'année, pour coller à l'ambiance puisque l'histoire se passe au moment de noël. Une fin pleine d'émotion où l'on en découvre un peu plus sur le père de Cerise. A lire sans hésitation !

On retrouve toujours notre petite cerise, intrépide petit détective ! Mais cette fois sur un fond de PS : I love you. D'un père pour sa fille. On découvre Cerise sous un jour plus touchant...

Eens je Cérise in je hart gesloten hebt, gaan de nieuwe avonturen er als zoete broodjes in! De tekeningen, het verhaal, de opbouw van de strip! Ongelooflijk hoe alkes zo vlot in elkaar loopt! Ik ben grote fan! ❤️

So, I've been rethinking about how to approach reviewing books/comics that I read in French, and I've decided that I'll only write a review if there's an English translation available.
Thankfully, this wonderfully little series is being translated into English by First Second (titled Cici's Journal: The Adventures of a Writer-In-Training and I'm so glad, because it's really worth checking out.
The series follows Cerise (I'll stick with the French names), a young girl who wishes to become an author one day. To help her practice, she keeps a journal where she chronicles all her thoughts and observations while she conducts people-watching, one of her favourite pastimes. She stumbles across mysteries while doing so, which usually end up with her becoming (overly) involved in these people's lives. This has led to some friction between her and her friends, as well as her mother, as she lies and neglects them to solve her mysteries (but things always finish well in the end.)
In the third volume, Cerise discovers an old box while helping out at a book-binding/mending shop. Inside, she finds a bit of a scavenger hunt intended for the owner of the shop to complete. Cerise and her friends decide to help to owner discover the "Five Treasures" the hunt promises to deliver which all seem to relate to the shop owner's past.
I've been following this series since about 2014, when the first volume was released in its native French, and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't blown away by it either. The stories are cute and fun, but it was the beautiful art that kept luring me back. In this third volume, Chamblain really taps into an emotional component that didn't feel as present in the first two. As I said, the "treasures" the group is hunting relate back to the show owner's past, and that plot thread is actually quite touching and sad. Delving into this person's past gets Cerise thinking about her own past and more specifically, her deceased father. It all made me significantly more invested in these characters, especially Cerise's relationship with her mother.
The art, as always, is gorgeous. The colour palettes are very light and airy, a perfect match for the tone of this series, and the character designs are memorable. I like that some of Cerise's journal entries are strewn throughout the book. It's seriously just so pretty to look at.
Definitely worth checking this series out (regardless of what language you read it in). I really hope First Second continues to translate and publish these in English.

Une série constante de tome en tome, je ne peux pas dire qu'elle se bonifie, parce qu'elle est depuis le début, excellente. L'ambiance de ce tome est différente, par certains côtés, plus magique et féerique que celle des tomes précédents. On évolue en pleine période hivernale, Noël approche. La chasse aux trésors à laquelle on participe avec les personnages est très plaisante, l'histoire devient de plus en plus émouvante, mais les nombreux moments chaleureux sont là et mettent du baume au cœur. Une série que je ne peux que vous conseiller.

I'm back to crying at work because of this series 🙈💕
I keep wondering if this series can get any prettier and emotionally gutwrenching than it already is and... it can. Which both terrifies me and astounds me at the same time!
This time, Višnja's adventure was set during winter - the constant snow and cold added a special kind of quiet reverence to the story, making the uncovering of long forgotten memories feel fairytale like and unreal. But somehow, at the same time, it made it feel that much more REAL. I don't know, I just feel so sad in a beautiful kind of way reading about Višnja's struggles of getting to know the world around her and, by extension, herself.... Sandra's story was also pulling at my heartatring in just the right way (the way her father left her little treausres to find like in her favourite book... and the last treausure being the book he wrote to her.. uff my heart!) 🥺
And then, at the end, all those wonderful illustrations of Višnja's adventures in different artstyles (and how her mom talked about her and her friends in a way varioua artists captured the magic of it all) made me bawl my eyes out. I love all of them but my favourite is definitely Višnja with the fox in snow by Romain Mennetier 💘✨️

Un tome idéal pour la période de Noël ! Neige, recettes de cuisine, cadeaux qui viennent du cœur... Je passe à chaque album un moment délicieux avec Cerise et ses amies, les dessins sont mignons, colorés et l'esprit bon enfant. Mon tome préféré reste pour l'instant le 1er mais celui-ci arrive directement en 2e place.

Je suis un peu moins emballée par ce dernier tome que par les deux premiers : le mystère (les petites enquêtes de Cerise ) est moins long et impressionnant ici. Les dernières pages sont belles mais je trouve ça un peu plus bâclé que les fois précédentes. L’intrigue sur la famille de Cerise me pousse néanmoins à vouloir lire la suite.

Різдвяна книжка про власну психологічну травму. Про амнезію і поривання у болючі спогади.
Через історію дорослої людини (нова персонажка) і її відкриття, нам розкривають головну героїню і її історію. Бо у неї нема батька, але не було згадки що сталося (тільки натяк в другій частині).
Але тут все стало більш очевидно.
Поки що ця частина стоїть на третьому місці із перших трьох книжок. Мабуть, тому що я люблю осінні і весняні історії.
Цікаво, чим здивують 4 і 5 частина.
Через історію дорослої людини (нова персонажка) і її відкриття, нам розкривають головну героїню і її історію. Бо у неї нема батька, але не було згадки що сталося (тільки натяк в другій частині).
Але тут все стало більш очевидно.
Поки що ця частина стоїть на третьому місці із перших трьох книжок. Мабуть, тому що я люблю осінні і весняні історії.

Wat een heerlijk kerstboek met een vleugje mysterie en veel liefde.
De meiden in dit boek groeien op en hebben dus ook minder ruzietjes, wat ik zeker kan waarderen.
De illustraties zijn weer om bij weg te smelten.

J'ai encore pleuré ! C'était encore super émouvant. J'ai préféré ce tome ci au deuxième. L'enquête était plus chouette. Les dessins sont toujours aussi beaux. J'adore qu'on en apprenne plus sur la vie de Cerise.
