SHED : An Extreme Horror Story

Rate this book
Locked in a decrepit shed in an undisclosed location, Ryan wakes to blood, ropes, and silence. His captor has no name and a face that remains hidden. With every brutal hour, the torment deepens, and answers remain shrouded in darkness. But pain has a voice, and in its screams, Ryan begins to unravel a truth more monstrous than his suffering.

SHED is a descent into hellish isolation, where revenge festers and desperation gnaws like rats in the walls. As the line between victim and participant blurs, and the universe offers no mercy, the real horror emerges—not from within the shed, but from what lies beyond it.

For fans of transgressive horror, cosmic dread, and the unflinching gaze of a world that simply doesn't care—SHED doesn't ask for your comfort. It eviscerates it.

3.5 stars. This wasn't bad. I liked how God was presented as an Old Testament sort of God, grittier and rougher around the edges. And Ryan's dynamics with the angel were the highlight. Filled with awkwardness and plenty of content to warp your mind, every part of their conversation was fantastic. The body horror was ok but didn't jump out as anything special. And I wanted a lot more context from Mr. Daniels, too. The end was a bit of an abrupt halt and I really did want the pacing to slow down, so I could enjoy this tale of the macabre. Not sure if I've read Matt Salinas prior, but this definitely whet my appetite for more.

This is a 4.5 🌟 read rounded ⬆️ to 5 🌟.

Well, that was an horrific tale in more ways than one! All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not a bloke. And let's not mention *wire coat-hangers* at all! 😳

Well, that was a lovely story.

Man’s trapped in a shed. Someone’s torturing him for something he might’ve done… or maybe not. Simple setup… nope.

This is one of those stories that throws you into a spiral and leaves you questioning everything: Who’s really in control? Is there a god? Free will? Are we just pieces on some cosmic chessboard?

One thing’s clear: humans aren’t the center of anything, and we’re not important.

What the hell just happened?

The brutal body horror was insane and the turn of events was something you don't see coming!

This was such a different type of read, and I absolutely loved it!

I've read a few books by Matthew that I've really enjoyed, but this one was so different, and now I'm left wondering if this is reality.

This book I couldn’t put down! Finished in one day and reminded me a lot of the twilight zone! For it being short, it definitely was brutal!

If the movies Groundhog day and Hostel had a baby, you would be Somewhere near this book.

Matthew sent me a copy of this book for review, thank you!

This was my first read by this author and It Certainly won't be the last

In this story we follow Ryan. Ryan wakes up to find himself Covered in blood and tied to a chair in a run down shed.
He has no memory of how he got there but he soon realises that he is being held by a figure who remains in the shadows with nothing but revenge on his mind.

As the torture gets more and more brutal Ryan trys to figure out what he could have possibly done to make this man want to inflict this level of pain on him.

Ryan discovers a truth that is much more terrifying than he Could ever have imagined.

I'm not going to say any more, it's a short story and I don't want to spoil anything.

This was an excellent and very extreme torture horror story with some really gnarly scenes and a twist that literally blind sides you.

I haven't seen this book talked about nearly enough. It's available now and If you enjoy your horror on the extreme side you should definitely check it out!

This was a wild, quick read! We start out with our protagonist waking up, restrained, in a shed, by a mystery torturer, lurking in the shadows, ready to put him through hell for transgressions that may, or, may not be his. The story takes a wildly creative turn, halfway through, when, we find out that both men have some atonement to make, and, rights to wrong, in their own ways. A cleansing, of sorts. But, unfortunately, for our protagonist, his trials, and, tribulations won't be as easy as the man who is to bring him unimaginable pain. There is a very creative twist to the story, and, very creative torture methods in this story. One chapter really made me squirm, and, is titled, "The Coat Hanger". This is for fans of gory torture, with a ride that takes you straight to hell, literally! Highly recommended!

SHED follows Ryan, a man being held captive and tortured by a guy convinced Ryan had something to do with his daughter's death. The only respite he's allowed is weird dreams with a mysterious figure, but even those aren't much of a break....

The story as a whole did feel a little abrupt to me. I really wanted more to give me backstory on our two protagonists and to make me feel more for them as I was reading. I will give Salinas massive creativity points, though; the clothes hanger was something. I'm fairly certain I cringed with the finger bit, too.

I liked that God was portrayed as more wrathful and aloof than you typically see in fiction. This was more Sodom and Gomorrah than forgiveness, and it added another layer to the story for me. Ryan's interactions with the angel provided some relief that was very much needed to break up all the heavy torture.

SHED : An Extreme Horror Story
by Matthew Salinas
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is an intense, dark and fantastic extreme horror story!
It’s a fast and short read and I was completely hooked from page 1 through the end. The storyline is very deep and what happens in the shed is more than it appears!
Ryan is trying to figure out what he did to end up trapped in this hellish nightmare.

Matthew Salinas is a fantastic writer and I enjoy his stories. This is the most extreme horror story I’ve read from him and he did an excellent job with it. It left me thinking after I was done reading. 🤔
Revenge at its finest!

Thank you to Matthew Salinas for an arc of this horrifically entertaining novella.

SHED is an extreme short story that doesn’t lack in brutality. When Ryan wakes tied to a chair, he has no idea where he is, how he got there, or the identity of his captor. All he knows is pain, as the torture he endures grows worse with every hour he spends in the isolated shed. But little do Ryan or the nameless man know, the real horror isn’t what’s inside the small space, but what lies outside.

This story was bloody, savage, and wholly unexpected. But for me, the brutality wasn’t the most disturbing aspect of SHED, but something even more profoundly disturbing. Salinas delivers yet another knock out short any fan of extreme horror will want to read, so be sure to add this to your TBR!

Oh boy, did Heaven’s HR department really drop the ball on this one. 🫣

Imagine waking up in a shed—bleeding, broken, and with no idea why. And then it JUST…KEEPS…HAPPENING.

Shed isn’t just about the physical torment. It digs into emotional trauma, unresolved grief, and the divine systems that decide who suffers and why. Salinas’s newest work is a brutal, otherworldly story that’s far deeper and more disturbing than it first appears. If you like your horror intelligent, sharp, and emotionally messed up, this one’s worth the pain. 🔪🩸

READ YOUR WARNINGS WITH THIS ONE!
It amazes me with each of his stories I read that he can pack so much feel and experience in such a short story! None of his stories have disappointed but this one stands out for the shock factor!
Heaven? Hell? Or somewhere in between. What does anger and the need for vengeance do to the soul? And perhaps if you weren’t necessarily bad or necessarily good and needed just a bump in the right direction… would it be worth it to help yourself and another soul along the way? The price may be a little too high in the shed…

Matthew Salinas has done it again! I obsessively adore books that use such creative, emotion evoking, thought provoking writing that can be vividly imagined, psychologically and physically felt. Torturously well-written with throat punching surprises! This one had me clinching my jaws and curling my toes!! Let’s just pray it all works out as planned otherwise Ryan is going to be experiencing an afterlife groundhog day! A brutal, intense, extreme horror short that will have you questioning Heaven and Hell!

4.5 stars rounded up. This was so much fun (for me, not for Ryan). I am a big fan of this author, and this is definitely the goriest work I've seen from him yet. It was never too much, though. It was the perfect balance of gory/story to keep me fully entertained.

At first it felt like a revenge torture style horror movie. Then it took a twist that made it totally fresh and so much more interesting. I loved it. I don't want to give too much away. Just go read it.

With a new take on torture-style horror, this book will surprise and leave you with your mouth hanging wide open (or cringing lol). Matthew Salinas writes stories masterfully that hit hard, and put you right in the action as if you’re witnessing it yourself. Flawless execution from beginning to end. Not going to give too much detail away, but I’m sure there’s one part that will take the floor out from underneath you as it did me. I highly recommend!

This is the first book I read by Matthew, and I was not disappointed. I received this as an ARC.

We follow Ryan, who wakes up naked and tied up in a shed. He's being tormented by someone he doesn't know, nor does he understand why he is receiving these punishments.

As the story progresses, we begin to understand it's not what it seems, and I thought it was an interesting twist. One that makes you think.

The story is short, but definitely packs a punch.

SHED is a gruesome short story that delivers a fresh and brutal take on torture-style horror. What begins as a seemingly straightforward revenge tale morphs into something far more disturbing—and unexpected. The twist caught me completely off guard, elevating the story to a whole new level.
Gruesome, gripping, and clever, Salinas delivers horror with precision and intensity. A must-read for fans of dark, twisty fiction.

Listen, I don't cringe, cross my legs, and wince when reading very often. I did all of the above while reading this. SHED is more than you think. When people say size doesn't matter, they're serious. SHED packs a punch and will have you questioning life and the afterlife.

Ryan awakes somewhere being tortured by someone. That's all he really knows at that point. Who is this person? Why is Ryan there? What did he do? Be ready to be tortured. I loved this! The torture scenes were top-notch!

Holy hell (or heaven) guys.

This was brutal the ENTIRE time all while messing with your head and I loved every moment of it.

Our main character wakes up in a shed and tortured relentlessly by a man who is so unhinged that there's no boundaries on what he us capable of.

The twist it takes was so good that I couldn't wait to see what else was in store.

This is easily my hands down FAVORITE by this author.

This author’s microfiction never fails to pack a punch! Shed is an exquisite blend of existential and extreme horror, and despite being less than 50 pages, it manages to cram an impressive number of twists within the story. Overall it’s a fast and highly enjoyable read!

This short story kept me entranced, intrigued, and beyond curious where this was going. Without giving too much away, it reminds me of "Hostile" meets God. I now question my life choices. Great short read. HIGHLY recommend.
