A Christian Romantic Suspense novella Book #4.2 in the Sonoma series
Doctor Geoffrey Whelan was in Japan when the tsunami hit, killing his cousin and grandmother. He has worked in medical missions for years to assuage his survivor’s guilt, and now that he’s back in Sonoma to help his family, he can’t figure out why he still feels so wounded and God feels so far away.
Then a mysterious young woman warns him that he and nurse Maylin Kinley are in mortal danger.
Maylin notices that Geoffrey is not the same arrogant doctor she met years ago in Los Angeles. Now that they are working together again in a clinic in Sonoma, she fights her attraction towards him because his confident, forceful personality reminds her too much of her abusive ex-boyfriend, who called himself a Christian.
She has been steering clear of her handsome coworker—until Asian hitmen attack the clinic and they are forced to run for their lives. Now they must race to figure out how the threat is connected to a young teenager whose life they saved—before everyone they love is caught in the crossfire.
Camy writes Christian romantic suspense, contemporary romance, and cozy mystery as Camy Tang and Regency romance under her pen name, Camille Elliot. She grew up in Hawaii but now lives in northern California with her engineer husband and rambunctious dog. She graduated from Stanford University in psychology with a focus on biology, but for nine years she worked as a biologist researcher. Then God guided her path in a completely different direction and now she’s writing full time, using her original psychology degree as she creates the characters in her novels. In her free time, she’s a staff worker for her church youth group and leads one of her church’s Sunday worship teams. She also loves to knit, spin wool into yarn, and is training to (very slowly) run a marathon.
Unshakable Pursuit by Camy Tang is a romantic suspense with lots of twists and turns. A mysterious young woman warns Dr. Geoffrey Whelan and Nurse, Maylin Kinley that they are in danger. Then two Asian men, who are fake FBI agents attack them at the children’s clinic where they work. Geoffrey and Maylin are determined to figure out who is after them and why. When they discover the threat is connected to a young teenager whose life they saved, they must race to stop the person who wants them dead—before everyone they care about is caught in the crossfire. Do they find out they care for each other? How does a sticky note pad save someone’s life and in the end have a special message? The action is non-stop and keeps you wanting more. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story changes!
Buckle up and hang on for a great romantic suspense ride. Camy Tang is great at creating likable characters full of strengths and weaknesses, wonderful settings, and great story lines. This one captures your attention from start to finish. Full of twists and turns the action is non-stop.
I particularly liked the two main characters, Maylin and Geoffrey as they were both coming from pasts that had left them wounded and pulling away from God. The romantic tension and attraction between them leads to both of them finding their way back to God, developing their strengths and solving the mystery. Well rounded read that continues to add secondary characters from the previous books and pull them into the action as well.
"..the fact you kept missing Jesus--maybe it means that He misses you, too."
Attraction, Intrigue, and Surprises UNSHAKEABLE PURSUIT
Mysterious twists, turns, laughs, and surprises………..that is Unshakeable Pursuit by Camy Tang. This delightful inspirational romance and mystery is all of this and more. The story opens with a mysterious girl whom Dr. Whelan perceives as a nursing student coming to warn him that he and Maylin, a nurse at the Sonoma Free Children’s Clinic are in danger. Who is this young girl? Where did she come from? Who is she warning him about? All of these questions lead us into a suspenseful tail of attack, flight, mystery, and dare we hope romance. Next two burly Asian men posing as FBI agents enter the clinic and attempt to kidnap Maylin and Dr. Whelan. How do these men know where to find them? Definitely not FBI agents, who are the two men? Who has sent them? Where are they trying to take Maylin and Dr. Whelan? A dedicated physician and nurse renew acquaintances in the middle of threats of harm to them. What has happened to place these wonderfully caring medical personnel in danger? While all of this is happening, Maylin and Dr. Whelan are struggling with their faith. Will this inriguing episode increase their strength in their faith and their God? Non-stop action, surprise, and mysterious happenings at every turn of the story. Ms. Tang has incorporated attraction, intrigue, and faith building into every facet of this compelling story. I was provided with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review of the book. The book is a fantastic read and once you start, you do not want to put it down until finished.
Unshakeable Pursuit by Camy Tang is a very enjoyable romantic suspense. Maylin, a nurse, and Geoffrey, a doctor, are co-workers in a free clinic. But before long, they find themselves thrown together and trying to survive. This novella has some great action and the storyline is very interesting. I really enjoyed learning why these two were running for their lives! Maylin and Geoffrey were also both struggling with deep questions about God and their relationship with Him. They both had a lot of growing to do spiritually in this story and the issues that they each had were deep and hard to overcome. There is a lot of spiritual truth packed into this great novella. And the romantic tension and attraction between the two is fabulous! Loved it!
This novella started with mystery and action which only ended with the last chapter. It was a well written novella which did not feel rushed. I enjoyed that both main characters took action against the Asian men trying to kill them, by using their skills in for example creating homemade teargas and fighting back.
The characters also had depth and had to deal with personal struggles with their relationship with God and I enjoyed how the came to their revelations which reunited them with God.
Camy Tang did a great job of keeping my interest in this clean mystery/romance. Enjoyed it from the start with the different twists. Will gladly read her other books! I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I really, really, really hate to say it, especially being a Camy Tang story, whose writing I usually love, but this felt... clunky.
(Mildly spoilish things coming.)
Maylin and Geoffrey are alright as characters taken on their own, but as a couple they really never seemed to click. Their individual, internal character conflicts remained internal and remained their own, "resolved" with a quick summary in the epilogue instead of assisting each other to work through things as a couple should. Over the course of the story they have a lot of soulful staring with "Ooo, I really like him/her, but...", with not a lot of real interaction. They don't seem to trust each other with their troubles, despite their shared external conflict. There's also not very much development of these internal conflicts, and it felt like there was a lot of repetition, especially on Geoffrey's part. Lots of allusions to his time in Japan, but no detail until the end. Until then, his character simply feels distant; not in a good way.
For the external conflict, it starts before we know or care anything about the characters, and the way the story opens is more confusing than intriguing. It doesn't feel like a real mystery/thriller until nearly halfway through, when FINALLY there's more detail on what the heck is going on. The entire story felt like there was no foundation. Maybe if it had been with established characters, rather than introducing new ones, the "jump right into the action" opening might have been better. Yes, Monica is there, but she feels peripheral. There's barely enough of Maylin and Geoffrey to get a whiff of their characters before the guns start shooting (though Maylin's makeshift bombs were nicely revealing about her character, it felt like it was never expanded on. She's obviously smart, and the hinted internal conflict with her ex-boyfriend was also telling about her character, but it really never felt RESOLVED. Dang it).
The way details and clues were presented also felt clunky. The way they were placed in plain sight made it obvious they would be important, rather than being smoothly worked into the narrative as clues in a mystery should be.
In short, it didn't feel fast paced, it felt rushed. :(
Having lost family in a tsunami in Japan, Doctor Geoffrey Whelan is back in the states to help out his remaining family. His coworker, and nurse, Maylin Kinley finds him attractive, but he reminds her a bit too much of her abusive ex. They find themselves thrown together after being warned by a stranger that they are both in grave danger. On the run for their lives, they will need to neutralize the threat in order to save themselves and others who appear to be unwittingly connected. Geoffrey still harbors guilt from his inability to save his family, and he does not intend fail now. However, it may be difficult, as danger lurks around every corner. Is someone out for revenge as a form of misguided justice? Even though this is part of a series, it could be read as a standalone. The twists and turns hold the reader’s attention, as do the strong primary and secondary characters. This is a well-rounded tale, with a perfect mix of suspense, action, and romance.
(I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.)
Maylin Kinely is not sure what to think of Dr. Geoffrey Whelan, he seems very different than the Dr. Whelan she worked with years ago. When events put them in danger and they must stick close together and try to figure out who is after them and why, can she actually trust him? As attracted to him as she is, she is not ready for another relationship, especially to someone so domineering.
Dr. Geoffrey Whelan has his own way of doing things and likes to be in control. When his life somehow is thrown for a loop can he find his way back to God? Will he ever be able to forgive himself and move on? Maylin Kinely has steered clear of him since he started working with her again, yet will he be able to keep her safe and find who is trying to kill them?
This book is full of exciting, page thrilling drama. I love the dialogue, theme and romance in this novel. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good clean contemporary suspense novels. I was given a copy of this book from the author for my honest opinion.
Dr. Geoffrey Whelan worked in Japan during the tsunami. He comes back to Sonoma, CA to help his family. Geoffrey receives a mysterious warning from a young woman at a clinic where he is a doctor one day. He has no idea what it means. The young woman warns him and a nurse, Maylin, that they are in danger and need to leave. Why? All of the sudden, 2 fake FBI agents show up and try to attack them! From there, they are on the run. The heart-stopping danger doesn't stop there but continues through the streets of San Francisco and Sonoma, Calif. Normally Maylin steers clears of Geoffrey but now they are running for their lives as they try to figure out how a young teenager is connected to the craziness they are experiencing.
I love Camy's suspenseful writing. You never know what's going to happen and she uses great secondary characters!
A young woman warns Doctor Geoffrey Whelan that he and Nurse Maylin Kinley have to run away because they’re in danger. It doesn’t make sense, but soon after the warning, two fake FBI agents come to see Geoffrey and Maylin. The “agents” attack them and as bad as that is, it gets a lot worse. The men return that evening with guns for back-up. Geoffrey and Maylin have to hide while trying to figure out who is after them and why. They endure four suspense-filled days with the help and support of Geoffrey’s family, especially his siblings, as they travel between Sonoma and San Francisco seeking answers. However, Maylin is kidnapped by the man behind it all. Find out how Geoffrey rescues her (it’s amazing). Don’t miss this great suspense-filled story!
From the opening scene to the closing this book is fast paced, on the edge or your seat suspense. I loved it. Dr. Geoffrey Whelan and nurse Maylin Kinley find themselves in a fight for their lives and they have no idea why. In the process of trying to figure out who is trying to kill them they learn what their faith in God is all about and that forgiveness and redemption are very real. A copy of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. There are other books in the series but I don't think you have to read them in order. It's fun learning about the other family members in the Whelan clan.
- this story is okay - it is very preachy for those who like that kind of story - the main characters don't really reflect the picture of book, the characters are from Japanese and Hong Kong backgrounds - more of a martial arts action kind of story - I didn't click with the characters, I felt them a little shallow and doctor got a rather annoying complaining all the time - the book was free, if I payed for it I would have rated it as a 2 - characters running from Chinese gang members - it was a short story , but I felt the ending was rather unrealistic
Unshakeable Pursuit by Camy Tang is a Christian Suspense novel blending suspense, a dash of medical and romance. From the first word to last, you are on a adrenalin pumping, roller coaster of a ride. Her words are vivid, believable and paint a picture of two people running for their lives. The two main characters realize that need to depend on The Lord to guide and protect them. I am eager to read the rest of the story in the series. A copy of the book was given in exchange for an honest review.
Anyone that enjoys a mystery that keeps you on the edge of the seat from the first pages will enjoy this one. It is a wonderful combination of mystery, action and suspense that takes twists and turns that certainly keep you reading. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I certainly look forward to reading others by her. It is also a good romance and a story that tells of God's love, forgiveness and protection. I was furnished a copy of this book in return for a honest review.
An exciting novella about Dr. Geoffrey Whelan and nurse Maylin McKinley who receive a warning from a stranger that "someone" is planning their demise. Not knowing who is after them, or why, the pair must figure out how to stay alive long enough to answer all their questions. A lot of action with just a little romance thrown in makes this a very good read.
What do you do when alot of people want to hurt you, kidnap you or murder you. What a wonderful story about getting close to God and letting him protect you. A really neat, super, wonderful story I was given a pdf copy of this book for my honest review
Unshakeable Pursuit is quite an action packed suspenseful read. Right from the beginning, I was hooked. I loved Maylin. I just saw myself in her personality and felt a connection with her. Great, quick read. 5 stars.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It was good to read an exciting story that I didn't have to skip over the dirty parts. Maylin and Geoffrey's tale wasboth interesting and warming. everyone should have a family like Geoffrey's.
A wonderful romantic suspense which kept me turning the pages late into the night. I fell in love with the characters and now want to read about more of them and their adventures.
This is a new to me author but I saw her in he line up for a boxset that I preordered and found a link to this novella. I’m a sucker for romantic suspense so I thought I’d sit down and give it a read. At novel 4.2, I know that I’m missing some backstory for these characters (and possibly more), however, that didn’t stop me from immediately getting caught up in the intrigue. I enjoyed these characters and their adventures.
Loved it. The characters is the best, and the suspense and action I enjoyed so much. The build-up and the romance, the love between siblings, and Maylins heartache of knowing that she didn't have the same love growing up, make this a page-turner you'll remember long after you finished the book. I'm looking forward to reading another book from Camy Wong.
I loved the twists and turns! I didn’t see that “unique set of skills” coming and I loved it! Maylin and Geoffrey are believable as imperfect people who change over time, giving them depth of character. I enjoyed this book🙂
Unshakeable Pursuit is full of excitement and hold-your-breath moments! Dr. Geoffrey Whelan and nurse Maylin Kinley find themselves in grave danger and must determine who wants them dead and why. The relationship between Geoffrey and Maylin continues to escalate, as does the danger they are facing. I loved the action, romance, and suspense of Unshakeable Pursuit and highly recommend this novella!
