Irresistibly Off‑Limits: A Sweet Grumpy Romance by Zara Grey is a short, contemporary romance about Cassie, a single mom and event planner who almost gets run over by her new boss on her first day of a dream job, and Liam Blackwood, a grumpy billionaire CEO, her childhood best friend’s older brother whose intimidating presence clashes with her warm, determined spirit. Their history is complicated by a decades‑old family scandal that ties their pasts together, making their growing attraction off‑limits, especially when Cassie’s young son becomes part of the emotional equation and Liam’s protective streak makes resisting his feelings nearly impossible. This standalone novella is marketed as sweet, with emotional moments and light romantic tension rather than explicit scenes.
Almost from the beginning Irresistibly Off‑Limits made me feel protective of Cassie, who juggles professional confidence with the vulnerability of a parent wanting the best life for her child, while Liam’s gruff exterior slowly softens in ways that felt heartfelt and genuine. I particularly enjoyed how their shared past and small town connections give depth to their dynamic, even on a relatively brief page count; each moment of understanding or unguarded laughter felt earned rather than rushed.
At the same time, I felt certain plot threads, like the family feud and gala drama, were introduced with promise but not fully resolved, and that occasional jumps in time made parts feel slightly disjointed. Still, the core romance between Cassie and Liam warmed my heart, and their chemistry made me root for them at every turn.
My rating: 3 out of 5 stars. I’m giving this book three and a half stars because its tender grumpy‑sunshine pairing and emotional warmth charmed me and made me care about the leads, even if I longed for a bit more narrative depth and smoother pacing. If you enjoy cozy, short sweet romances with a protective hero and heartfelt growth, this one delivers a delightful, feel‑good read.
The beginning of the book felt clinical and rushed. Scenes could have been expanded more. A lot of it was confusing, particularly scene changes, or, more specifically, non-scene changes, just…pauses? There was very little description of surroundings and emotional states. There could definitely have been more world building and character building. Both MCs seemed to have the same personality. Think the same way, process the same way, emote the same way. Timing in the book was also confusing. The concept itself was a great premise and some of the descriptions were interesting and full of texture-that’s the only way I can think to describe it. But there were 2 problems that should have been expanded or resolved and weren’t. The understanding and respect given to a 5 year old by a grown man who could’ve seen himself as above all that was so heartwarming. It seems there is more to her best friend Jules and if hope to see another book about her. She seems too mysterious and interesting…same with Ella. The romance truly started about 80% of the way through the book. And that subject was actually pretty good, sweet. There was an extra chapter at the end for another book by the same writer…but it’s so ridiculously different that it feels like another person wrote it. Not a big fan of this one because it seems so unfinished and vague.

This book has promise. I think it could be really good but there’s a couple of things that need to be addressed. As I was reading I found sections difficult to get through because I couldn’t tell who was speaking/thinking things. It’s like the he and she parts were mixed into the same sentence so I had to stop and reread several areas to figure out who said what or who was thinking what.
The whole time it seemed like the gala was being sabotaged and that was made even more clear by Cassie hearing the other person. Well, you find out who the other person was but there’s no resolution to that storyline! At all! It’s like once the gala happens, that storyline is abandoned.
Also, the whole feud thing. It was made out to be this HUGE deal. I mean Cassie even said it killed her mother and yet……nothing. Just a super short conversation between Cassie and Liam and then all is forgiven?? Even Ella didn’t appear after that.
Fix these things and then the book will be worth reading.

3.5 stars. This was a good short story and it would be even better as a long story. Cassie and Liam are a good couple. The delivery of their story though was somewhat off due to editing. There were some parts where a sentence or a few words were missing, making it hard to follow. The event mishaps seemed to be due to a feud but that aspect was not explored almost like it was forgotten. Also there was a lot of times when something significant or important would happen at the end of a chapter or section and then the next paragraph would be about something else entirely. Sometimes though the thread was picked up later on in the book but it threw me off. This book was less than 80 pages and I believe that is why there are so many jumps and loose threads. It is a great story and would recommend it to anyone just wanting a quick read with good characters who have a happy ending.
Cassie Noel has just landed her dream job. Too bad her soon to be boss, not that she knew it at the time, almost ran her over with his car. Liam Blackwood, CEO of a billion-dollar event planning company is feared by his employees, but Cassie is a mother, so a grumpy CEO is as easy to handle as her four-year-old having a bad day. This is a short, sweet, and clean romance with beautifully written and realistic characters that had me chuckling from time to time. A couple of surprising plot twists and a happily ever after make this a must-read romance.

Liam and Cassie have known each other since they were kids, when Cassie was best friends with Liam’s sister. Years later, they’re working together in the event planning business, but Liam is keeping a major secret from Cassie. When the truth finally comes out, it causes a huge issue between them and threatens both their relationship and their future. Unfortunately, this book just wasn’t for me. I found it slow-paced and had a hard time staying engaged with the story. There were several plot points that didn’t seem to make sense or were introduced but never fully resolved. The shifts in point of view were not seamless, and made it difficult at times to tell whose perspective I was reading.
Cassie gets an event-planning job with Liam’s company. At a family dinner with his family, his aunt looks closely at her and calls her Jacqueline. That was her mother. How did Liam’s aunt know her mother? Then things clicked in place. Liam knew what happened and had followed Cassie on media. Now that they are working together, friendship turns deeper and he has fallen for her and her son Brendon.
There is a lot of jumping around in the story that makes it difficult to follow at times. Maybe more editing next time??
Let me start off by saying that I really enjoyed this book! I thought that the chemistry between the main characters was very sweet and believable. I wasn’t sure about Liam’s grumpy attitude at first, but he won me over, just as he won Cassie.
The only reason I did not give this book five stars is because of Brendan, Cassie’s little boy. I became very tired of his obsession with robots. I suppose it was meant to be funny, but I simply didn’t get the humor of it.
Overall, this was a really good book!.

Zara Grey is a fairly new author to me but after reading Irresistibly Off-Limits I will definitely be reading more. Cassie is struggling to raise her son alone while working as an event planner. After a particularly stressful day, she gets the call that will change her life forever. She gets the opportunity to work for ruthless billionaire Liam Blackwood also known as her best friend's brother. There is definitely an attraction between them but there are also secrets that could destroy them if Cassie finds out, Recommend.
Cassie is hired to work as an event planner for Regal Enterprises, where the CEO is Liam, the brother of a childhood friend. Cassie is strong, smart and excellent with problem solving. Liam is not nice and more than just grumpy. He is impressed with her leadership of her team and to get the team to trust her and follow directions with questions. She is off limits because he’s her boss. Of course, that makes it all the more tempting. The story was well written and the characters were well developed. I really didn’t like Liam. Cassie deserved better. Overall, it was a great story.
3.5/4 “Irresistibly Off-Limits” by Zara Grey -A sweet, short grumpy-sunshine romance with a protective billionaire and a determined single mom at its heart. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts. Cassie and Liam’s chemistry and shared history are engaging, though the story feels rushed with noticeable gaps and loose threads. Enjoyable for a quick, feel-good read, but it would shine more with deeper development and smoother pacing.
I thoroughly enjoyed IRRESISTIBLY OFF-LIMITS. It’s a short, fast paced rom-com starring Cassie, a strong, talented, independent protagonist, and Liam, a handsome, brilliant, gruff CEO. I had to downgrade my rating because of inadequate editing (many missing words, incorrect tense, and typos), but the story is solid and entertaining.
Cassie and Liam had me all caught up in this wonderful story. It is well written and had me in their corner as they got to know each other. He is her best friend's older brother, and she is a single mom. Working for him has feelings sparking but when the family's past come back to haunt them will it have them ending a budding relationship.
Overall the story is good. Would have been better as a complete novel. Too things left hanging. The story skips around. Your reading one paragraph and the next paragraph is the next day. A bit hard to keep up with in places. At one point Cassie sees her mom's picture on Liam's desk. Nothing else is said until closer to the end of the book. 4 stars is a generous rating.
This story was a nice, quick pick me up. Liam and Cassie each face challenges and have the other there to help them get through it. This story was easy to follow and the characters relatable. Because of the short length of this story I felt like some moments were unfinished or a little rushed.

I enjoyed the story of a hard-working mother and her son, a sharp and demanding work climate with the CEO, how their pasts are entwined, and valued and recognized successful work, showing one's better side in new circumstances.

I enjoyed Cassie and Liam's story. Sometimes I found myself getting upset with Liam because he was just down right mean. But I kept with the story and things turned around so interestingly. I couldn't put it down. It was a great story.

This is about Cassie and Liam, along with Cassie’s son Brendon. I like that Cassie takes the high road in every situation, that Liam can’t help but open his heart after becoming emotionally stone for years, and Brendon’s childhood innocence, which brings lightness to the story.

DNF 56%. The idea of the plot is great. The execution wasn't. The story jumped around so much I wasn't sure where the characters were, who was speaking, and what was going on. I did like the basis for the characters though, and wish this story had gone through a few more drafts to fix the issues.
I stayed confused during this book. I couldn't tell if the main characters liked each other or not. I felt that the author didn't prepare me for the conclusion and was still confused after I reached the end of the story!! This novel definitely needs a rewrite and a good editor.
A good story. Kept me entertained throughout. Brendan was adorable. Could have used a little bit more romance for my taste but it made sense since they didn't really have a strong bond in the past to build off of. A nice happy ending.
Can be read as a standalone. Best friend's older brother Forbidden romance Opposites attract Family scandal Ended too soon leaving some things hanging. Hopefully it continues in another book.

What sounded like an interesting premise turned into confusion for this reader. Frankly I'm tired of trying to decide what the author means due to vagueness.
