Family gatherings? Never a good idea. Especially when you're a Grant. Florence—did anyone mention she's a Grant?—is back home for her sister's wedding, which means dealing with her overbearing mother, her effortlessly perfect sibling, and—ugh!—him. Miles. The infuriatingly charming best man who knows how to get under her skin. The type of man she could easily surrender to. Yet, he is also exactly the kind of man she knows she should avoid. One minute they’re bickering, the next…silence says everything they won’t.
Craving an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance with a side of family drama? Sizzling tension with a touch of steam? And what about humorous banter? Yes please! Then say no more! Grab a plate and pull up a chair, because Dinner at Six is serving up exactly what you need!
I love good books. Usually when the book is good i stay up all night and read it and this is one of the book. I couldn’t stop reading it. It’s very nice romance novel, I laughed a lot. 100% recommended.
The MC, Florence, is a paramedic whose life choices are never understood by her family. Now she is back at home for her sister's wedding, and so is her sharp tongue. Her mother, Elizabeth, is as good, if not better, a master of passive-aggression herself. But seriously, the sarcasm and dark humour in their back-and-forth was definitely my highlight 🤌🤌🤌
Now, an enemies-to-lovers story. Florence and Miles. Their banter and arguments are pure gold, all while thrown into all sorts of awkward situations which only fuelled their attraction, and that was very fun to read.
Despite being a rom-com, the book touches on past and present vulnerabilities and family issues, all while maintaining the lighthearted vibe. The best part is definitely watching Florence and Miles go from hating each other to...well, you'll have to read it to find out 😏
If you're looking for a book with humorous banter and a seriously tense family dynamic, this one is a great pick.
if downtown abbey was set in modern times and Mary Crowley narrated it - this is what dinner at six is like!! not much of a downstairs - upstairs going on, but you have a good amount of drama, beautifully colourful characters, posh family who love eachother very much even if they come across as a bit cold towards one another at first. it is also delightfully funny and just so easy to read. the spicy scenes are hot and not repetitive at all (which is what often happens in explicit books, I find) and all of this just makes this book a great pleasure to read, if you're in the mood for something light, entertaining and spicy at the same time. I really got to love these characters and by the end of it, I'm super excited for book 2!!
I'm really looking forward to the release of this book, because judging by the description, it should be something very intriguing, and sometimes spicy.
So excited for this book to be released! This book sounds like a wild ride — the kind of plot that keeps you turning pages… and maybe blushing a little too ;) can’t wait!
What a great story! It is fast-paced non repetitive and the humour is absolutely delightful. Love watching the story unfold between Florence and Miles. The controlling mother is giving Emily from Gilmore girls at times. The family dramas, the twist and turns mixed with the slow burn romance made it a very enjoyable read. 5/5 ⭐️
Family gatherings might not always be a good idea, but family gatherings at the Grant house are a special piece of... work. And yet, despite everything, everyone is back together at the dinner table, and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it while reading these pages.
My only complaint about this book is that Miles isn't real and I can't actually date him. Other than that, it was proper fun from start to finish. Now, seriously, WHEN is Jo's book coming out?!
The story kicks off with the FMC’s arrival at her family’s home, where she meets the MMC. From page one (or, to be precise, page six) she is ready to punch him in the face. That's how strong their chemistry is hehe
- enemies-to-lovers 😏 - forced proximity - not sure if slow, but it did definitively burn 🔥 - sizzling tension 🥵 - dysfunctional family, which I absolutely loved - her POV
I won't dwell on the story to avoid any spoilers, but I'd love to leave a few words about the characters
Florence:
Oh, Florence 🫂 I found her so instantly relatable. Observant, genuinely funny, and very honest about her own insecurities and frustrations. The story is written from her POV and being in her head made me feel like I was right there with her. She often uses her humour to mask her vulnerability, especially with her family, ESPECIALLY WITH HER DIFFICULT MOTHER.
Miles:
THE love interest 👀 🥵 Miles is a complex character. Initially rude, he's clearly confident and attractive, but you get these small hints of vulnerability beneath the surface. He’s cocky, playful, charming and yes, a little arrogant – who doesn't want that? Also, a fun observation 👀 🐍 he reminds me of that fanfic character, you know, the one with 'sleek, ice blonde hair.' Coincidence???
Josephine:
A compassionate and kind-hearted sister, and you can just feel how deeply loved she is by Florence. She is the peace maker between Florence and their mother. To my understanding, we are yet to read Jo's story and something tells me that one is going to be really intense 😬
Elizabeth:
THE mother, bless her scheming heart 😂 She is quite the complex figure. Honestly, I absolutely love this character, especially her sharp and perfectly delivered idle jabs, particularly towards Florence who also doesn’t always hold back.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read. I'm glad to be among the first who got their hands on Dinner at Six before it's out there.
I’ve just finished this book and it was honestly a great read. A great romance that unfolds into an amazing story. The story was very interesting and quite fast paced which really gets you hooked! Amazing! Definitely a 10:10 from me 🩷
