Cookie Walker has lost the love of her life, but she knows life must go on. She just doesn't know where to get started. After getting booted from the PTA, she decides there’s no better time than the present to make some big changes. Her family is dealing with change, too. Even with all that going on around her, Cookie starts spending a lot of time with Dylan Cooper, a friend of the family who is in the middle of a nasty divorce. While Cookie is glad to have found someone who understands her feelings of loss, she’s completely oblivious to the fact that Cooper has developed romantic feelings for her. The small-town gossips, however, are already talking. Is Cookie moving too fast? Can she juggle three kids, a new business, and a possible new romance?

Jessica Goodwin is an author, freelance writer, and blogger with five novels and hundreds of articles under her belt. Her work has appeared on Scary Mommy, Baby Gaga, Tribe Magazine, Mamalode, Mother Hustle, Nugget, Travel the Home Exchange Way, the Falls Church News Press, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

She is currently pursuing her ALM in Extension Studies (Creative Writing & Literature) with Harvard University Extension School.

Two of Goodwin's books, Here We Go and The One Who Got Away have appeared on the Amazon bestseller list. In March 2012, her third book, One of the Guys, received an Honorable Mention in Sapphire Star Publishing's Month of Romance contest. Goodwin's latest book, Starting from Scratch, was released in spring 2019.

Goodwin lives near Washington, DC with her husband, son, and their two cats. She likes cookies, coffee, and anything that sparkles. If she could have any animal for a pet, it would be a T-Rex. She loves experimenting in the kitchen, home exchanging, singing in the shower, and takes way too many pictures of her kid.

Starting from Scratch is a lovely book but it's more about Cookie's journey than a romance novel. The storyline is good although if your looking for a true romance then this is not a book for you.

I really loved this book. I read a lot of chic-lit where the husband of the main character has died so I was reluctant to read this book at first because I thought it would be like all the other books I've read but I am so glad I didn't listen to my gut feeling. I really loved the author's writing style and all of the characters. I'm not a huge fan of romance so I loved that the romance was gradual and not shoved in your face. I am hoping Jessica Goodwin will publish more books soon! This one was a true winner!

I'm so torn about this book. I really enjoyed the pace, which surprised me and the lack of drama, which didn't! The story was quite lovely and the struggles were heartbreaking. The ending though... It was like omg yes it's happening and then it just ends!
I hope there will be a second book but maybe I'm just being greedy!
