Banjo Berty has built a life on music, fame, and meticulous control, but the past never stays buried. A threatening note, unexpected rivals, and fractured family ties force him into a dangerous dance he cannot escape.

Across town, Clem and Mason, two private investigators with a talent for chaos, stumble into a web of secrets, lost dogs, and dangerous agendas. Every clue, every conversation, every song might hide the truth—and someone is always watching.

As the Battle of the Bands approaches, loyalties will be tested, old wounds reopened, and the line between friend and foe erased. In a world where everyone has something to hide, survival depends on knowing the right truth—and keeping the wrong ones buried.

Clem and Mason are investigating Mason's parents' cold case while Mason is preparing for the local Battle of the Bands. One of the judges is less than kind and has a questionable past. When a body is found during the contest, Clem and Mason try to line up the clues and alibis as the twists keep turning. An entertaining cozy with lots of heart and soul. It can be enjoyed as a standalone.

This is another enjoyable addition to the series set in Donegal. This time Mason and Clem investigate when a woman is murdered at a music competition. She is dressed like her idol Banjo Berty who is not a nice man so there's no shortage of possible suspects when the motive is deemed to be mistaken identity and that Berty was the intended target.

I liked how the duo get to grips with the many suspects while trying to narrow down who the killer could be in such a narrow timeframe. This has a more personal theme to it as the victim is known to Mason, while Clem is progressing along nicely with her relationship with Parker. I figured out the killer earlier but enjoyed how things moved along while a few twists had to be overcome. The motive was less unclear to me until things were revealed. Looking forward to the next one.
