The town of Green Harbor, Maine has always been on the quiet side. But when the local librarian, Deirdre Clark, discovers the body of Doc Roy one morning in the stacks with an open romance novel on his chest, everything changes.
With the help of her two trusty cats and her former high school sweetheart Sam, Deirdre begins digging for clues. And what she finds shocks her. Adultery, family rivalries and secret lives come to the surface, all surrounding a local famous bed and breakfast. It's up to her to get to the bottom of it and find the killer. But can she convince the cops of her case or will the murderer get away with the murder?
I love cats. In fact I adore them. I am a cozy mystery author and massage therapist. When I'm not writing my next cat cozy mystery, I am facilitating healing in others through my massage practice in beautiful Southern California. I find inspiration through animals and my natural surroundings, and I spend most of my days and nights enjoying the company of my two Tortoiseshell cats.
Well. That was fast! I don't much like short stories. But since this didn't end on a cliffhanger and I know there are more stories in this series, I'll not complain.
Things I liked: The main character isn't a pretty young thing. She's only a couple years younger than me. She is well developed for such a short tale. Next... there are two cats that seem to help out quite a lot. THEN... it takes place in a library where the main character works. What could I not like. Oh, yeah. It was short.
Oh. I forgot to mention that this one is free on Kindle Unlimited. There is text-to-speech but no loanability. I guess that is because of the inexpensive price ($.99) if not using KU.
A short fun read. Personally, I would have liked the book to be a little longer and complicated. I enjoyed the characters and would love to see more of them. One little quibble, Deidre is the cat lady sleuth - but she has only two cats! A true cat lady is more like me -- I have eight of the fuzzy little darlings. Nevertheless, the kitties were fun to read about.
Great short read. She has always loved being a librarian but finding a dead Inn owner when she opened up really pushed her buttons. She knows deep down that this wasn't an accident but murder. Can she prove it and unmask the killer. Although this is just a short story it is woven with skill and care giving up a good plot and a real feel for the characters.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

This was such a fast read it seemed like a novella. You step into Deirdre's world and library and right into a murder. Evidently she has a history of crime solving, a tenuous relationship with the police, and a long term loving friendship with Sam. This book needed some proofreading; at one point the name of her fat cat Flipper changed to Skipper; there were some other minor errors as well. The mystery wasn't deep, nor were the characters; however I think there is potential for a nice cozy series.
I liked this short mystery. It was a friendly read. It has all the elements of a novel so the complete story is there. I'm not going to quibble over incorrect grammar or misused commas. It's a short story to be enjoyed and it was. The main characters are well drawn and identifiable. I hope the author adds more details in future books, but the brevity of descriptions doesn't distract from the story. Just be aware that it is a short book and enjoy it.
I'm confused if one of the cat's in this book is named Flipper or Skipper? Is it a he or a she? No, that's not what the mystery is about, that's what the editor didn't fix.
Aside from the editing issues, this just doesn't hold a candle to her "Pattie Lansbury Mystery" on any level. I went back to check that I did have the correct author.
I enjoyed this book. I initially bought it because it was a cozy, set in Maine. I enjoyed a holiday in Maine and this book brought back memories of the small towns there. I certainly identified with the heroine, a woman around my age, with two cats, (although mine are girls) and a librarian. I liked how Diedre related to everyone in solving the murder of Doc. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I really wanted to like this book as I so enjoy cozies with animals aiding the sleuth. What a dud.
First of all, Deidre came across as a nosy old lady did things that were not just a little over the line but a lot. Revealing the contents of a will which she "accidentally" read? Making judgments about others?
