Age of Heroes #2

Return of the High Mage King 2

Rate this book
Every mage in Essalin can pull a single kind of aether, except me. I can pull four.

During the journey to the mage academy in Lumeria, I find out that I’m a high mage, the first one born in centuries. On the night I found out, I saved an entire army from destruction while battling a rogue mage from the Fire Lands.

Now, word is getting around Lumeria, and everyone wants to see what I’m capable of. I’m just trying to learn how to use my new powers, but my female classmates, including a deadly but very flirtatious brunette instructor, want to do a lot more than just studying.

It doesn’t take long for trouble to find us though, coming down from the upper echelons of power in the College of Mages. There’s a traitor inside the college—someone who’s sold us out to the Firelanders. And I’m going to do everything in my power to prevent them from striking again.

The prophecy is being fulfilled. The Age of Heroes has returned.

trash sequel

Dropped after 30%. Connor is strong when plot needs it to be and gets cornered by idiots in an alley when the author doesn’t know how to progress the story. Connor is also a passive wimp with about as much backbone as wet paper towel. Jade being thrown in as an obvious enemies to lovers trope is horribly done, and the reasoning for “keeping her around” is so thin an autistic monkey could write something better. Mediocre first book and then a dumpster fire second. I don’t think this author has spoken to real people because he doesn’t seem to know how people act.

Oh wee… things keep heating up! The traitors are finally found and the loss of someone close to the good guys was so sad. I love Jade. She’s a total badass secret agent! Tess’ heartache was hard to see but Ava sure surprised me! Can’t wait for the next book.

Conner needs to man up!

I don't like how passive Connor was in this one. He and Tess realized they had feelings for each other in the end of the last book, however neither of them tried to seriously bring it up to Ava until Ava herself sent Connor after Tess to cheer her up. That was almost 70% through this book, 70+% of a book of Connor and Tess knowing they had feelings for each other and neither having the guts to directly bring it up to Ava.

Otherwise, the book was very good and I love how the plot is developing. Hopefully when the time comes Connor can be more assertive when it comes to Jade, Vivienne and others.

Great Follow-on to Book 1

Things are changing quickly in this book. The MC en route to the mage training school with their escort and fellow students is where this book begins. Needless to say, nothing goes smoothly. Keeping the MC’s talents under wraps proves difficult. The pace of the book continues to accelerate where the MC and his friends come into their prime and he into his place.

Entertaining Read

As Connor continues his training, he grows stronger in his abilities. He is joined by Ava, but Tess seeks to be part of their group as well. However, the academy is shrouded in whispers of betrayal, creating an atmosphere of unease. The story offers a captivating blend of action, humor, intrigue, and romance, leaving the reader eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Worth the wait

A great sequel, I loved the way the way the story progressed and the curve balls at the end ( some were not that surprising based on the name of the series) I look forward to the next one!

very good read!

Likeable characters, engaging plot, good blend of action and appropriate discussion and planning. Cliffhanger finish to make me wish the next book was available…sigh.

it was a good academy book and the ending was great, but it didn't grab me as much as the first one did.

Very good book

This is a fine fantasy harem adventure novel. It is well written and edited. I especially like Tess. I anxiously await the sequel.

Good, but the plots little thin.

The whole culmination of the plot at the end was a little thin, a little hard to swallow and believe entirely, but it was still a good read.
