19-year-old film student Trini Diaz thinks she has everything: a hot boyfriend, a loyal best friend named Mac, and a mom who’s pretty cool. Over winter break, this all gets turned upside down. Her boyfriend breaks up with her. Her mom reveals Trini’s dad actually isn't her biological father, and Mac tells Trini he’s loved her for a long time. Her life will never be the same. And maybe that’s a good thing. 20-year-old Mac lives at home with his parents. He has no ambition to leave, or at least that’s what many people think. He has a dream to be a successful singer-songwriter, like his hero James Taylor. But fears induced by autism, anxiety, and depression keep Mac in his shell. One night he takes a chance, kissing Trini and confessing his true feelings. Even if she doesn't feel the same, Mac knows that making that leap of faith is the only way to move ahead. Can Trini and Mac make that leap into the unknown together, even if it’s the scariest thing either will ever do?

I wrote my first book at six. A retelling of The Three Little Pigs, illustrated by my grandmother, the book was never picked up and was self-published instead, glued to cardboard with a cover fashioned from wallpaper scraps.

Today, I write stories featuring nice guys (or nice guys in-the-making) in between my other jobs writing research reports for a commercial real estate company, refereeing two young daughters, navigating the teen waters with a too-cute-for-his-own-good son, spoiling a neurotic cat, and making my darling, patient husband shake his head. I'm also an autism mom, chocolate enthusiast, sports-watcher, nacho-eater, and beer-drinker.

A Maryland native, I live in North Carolina now, but dreams of the beach fuel my fantasties, and my characters can often be found strolling in the sand or sailing along a coast.

I received this from another author as part of a collection of books called "Sweet Treats and Dirty Heat". I am new to the author AJ Matthews. I am now a fan! This book was so poignant. The struggles of 2 young adults both with issues. One has an eating disorder the other is a highly functioning Autistic. The story has several twists (I won't ruin it for you). I love the style and the topic. I was cheering for both of these people the entire book! It does have an HEA and can be read as a stand alone.

Wow! This book packs an awful lot into 15 chapters!! I have a child who is on the autism spectrum and I could really relate to Mac. It was refreshing to have a non alpha male lead character. I loved that Trini wasn't a knock out as well. Flaws can be hot also.

I Loved this book. Can two people, that's been best friends for years, become more than best friends? Mac and Trini both have problems. Trini has emotional scars that no one can see, while Mac's autism can't be hidden, he has learned to live a fairly content life with the help of his family and Trini.

Suddenly, Trini finds out a secret and she takes off to find her biological father. Mac has to find Trini and help her through this emotional mess. But he's hardly ever left his structured environment and he doesn't understand emotions.

Now that Mac has found Trini, how can he help her? Will Trini realize how deep Mac's feelings are and how much he had to conquer within himself to be there for her? Will she be able to show Mac that he can do so much more than he thought? Can they find love on this trip or will they lose the friendship they've always had?

Read this book to find out the answers to these questions. You won't regret it. It is a book that can make you feel multiple emotions....anger, sadness, laughter...just read the book!
