A Great Australian. A superb Historyk 'The courageous Life of Weary Dunlop' by Peter Fitzsimmons.

I just finished this outstanding biography of the ‘Courageous life of Weary Dunlop’ by Peter Simmons. What a brilliantly engaging and intoxicating story. A vivid historical narrative. A book I highly recommend for young and old. It's so well written and as narrative history it is utterly captivating. I put my trust in professional historians and when they research great Australians I hand over my faith that their work is solid and sincere. One of the brilliant gems of this history comes towards the end of the biography as Fitzsimons unveils the life outcomes of the lives of some of these great men who survived their horrible and nasty existence as a prisoners of war by the Japanese in World War II. Being ex army with service in Iraq I proudly salute these men. Also my military experiences were nothing near the trauma that these men suffered for the three plus years in captivity by the Japanese. The academic work that's gone into bringing this man's story alive is superb. Weary Dunlop is an archetypical Australian. Tough, determined and a survivor. A great historical figure. I highly recommend this biography. It is so well done. Engaging and illuminating. Just fantastic.
