Winter Break

Rate this book
The journey continues for this group of friends...

One secret will tear them all apart.

One man's quest to end his life will heal them in a way none of them could have anticipated.

"We've all fought hard to get to where we are, but as strong as it's made us, none of us should be foolish enough to believe that what we've built is indestructible."

Winter Break is a full length novel that picks up where Summer Tour leaves off, but it is a complete story that can be read as a standalone. It is intended for mature audiences due to profanity, sexual situations and recreational drug use

I absolutely loved this book! i really enjoyed the journey i went on with this fun-loving group of friends in book 1, but i completely fell in love with them (and all the extraordinary old and new secondary characters) in book 2. They are flawed (and some of their cuts are deeper than others) but they’re doing their best to negotiate through the trials and tribulations of the formative college years. The second storyline was heartbreaking (following a character from book 1 that is at that point in his life where he cannot continue on like he is, but doesn’t see any way to change), but it was woven in so perfectly and surprised the hell out of me how it all came together in the end.

Book 2 begins before book 1 even leaves off, with an extended prologue chronicling the weekend the surprise couple at the end of book one spent together falling in love (not telling who!!), and then the rest of the book picks up where book one’s epilogue left off. There wasn’t as much touring in this book and it was a little darker than book one, but an amazing read none the less.

For fans of Rocky like me, this is a must read! He’s is absolutely the star of this book and he does not disappoint. He’s hysterical, super sexy and devoted to a fault.

Winter Break is action packed and full of humor and emotion. It’s very sexy too (in an understated kind of way) and I highly recommend this installment in this addicting and unique series. And while both both can be read as stand alones, book 2 will have SO much more meaning if you’ve read book 1.

Than you to the author for providing me with an advanced copy!!

**I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

I have to say that Winter Break was a huge improvement over Summer Tour!

Everything that I didn't really like in the first book was toned down (ie the drugs and the drama). It's still there but I didn't find it to be overwhelming or the only thing the characters seemed to do. The focus moved to each pair working on themselves and their relationship. The result is stronger characters (better rounded and more developed) and great character growth. It was much more enjoyable to read in that respect because I was starting to understand each individual character and not their projected personalities.

I also liked the plot. It was more obvious to me and I liked that there was a set path or course to follow. And I honestly didn't see how everything linked together until the very end so I really liked that!

Overall: a great improvement! Fans of the first book will love watching everything unfold and those new to there series will like the story.

Emotional Journey 4.5 stars
I reviewed the first book in the Summer Tour series, and I loved it. I was excited to receive “Winter Break”, which is the second installment in that series and after reading it, I certainly wasn’t disappointed!
Review: a lifetime of solid friendships
A tight knit group, the family you get to choose, hanging out with people who understand you;
These kinds of friendships are few and far between, which makes them all the more meaningful.
This book contains numerous stories, all of which are entwined, due to the people involved who share a common bond; a deep devoted friendship.
So what happens to their relationships when a few within the group are harboring a secret, so big, if revealed, could break them apart forever? The lies are compounding as time passes. The guilty are suffering, while the innocent are feeling unexplained tension.
What a Catch 22! There are no right answers to this dilemma, but one thing is for sure; the bond between these steadfast friends is going to be pushed to the limit.
Diane Matlick has a true gift. She writes from the heart. This style of writing always takes you on an emotional journey. I was hoping throughout the book that the ending would be a happily ever after one, but given the circumstances I didn’t see how that was possible.
I am eagerly awaiting Book 3!

Updated Review!

First off I love Diane as a writer and as an author. Rarely to you just bond with someone over the love of books and then continue to chat about all sorts of things, so really it's nice to connect with a writer like that.

OK that said, I loved this book so much. It is hard to discuss either of Diane's books without giving away the delicious plot twist that make these stories unique and yet thrilling.

Around every turn you are pleased to catch up with the characters you fell in love with in Summer Tour. Then you are on the edge of you seat as some of the old secrets start to come out of the dark and you wonder what will come about. Then new characters are woven in, you love some while being cautious about others.

Most of all I love the unique writing style of these books. You never know how it will all come together. Even in the last pages your heart is still pounding in the best way, you laugh through tears, giggle at the silliness of best friends and smile at the love of this family.

Just do yourself a favor and read it. You will not regret it!

Amazing read! I will post a review closer to when the book release so I do not give away any juicy plot twists!

Secrets revealed...loves lost and hard life lessons are learned in this captivating sequel to Summer Tour. I loved this book more than the first book...if that is at all possible. This book takes off where Summer Tour ends but this time we get a more in-depth look into the minds of Rocky and Kaya. The characters in this series all have some hidden secret, messed up past or life-altering issue and you secretly hope that they get it together and everything works out. These friends are a family and they stick together through thick and thin.

I love this author's writing style. You immediately connect to the characters and you're drawn into the story as if you are part of the action. And just when you think you have everything figured out....BAM she hits you with a twist that you did not see coming! This book is written as a standalone but do yourself a favor and read Summer Tour first. This series is truly an experience that you will not regret!
