Hayley's Hayfield

Rate this book
One rebellious girl from California.

One farm boy from small-town Oklahoma.

Two secrets that destroy the futures they'd thought they had.

A ring is burning a hole in Sam's pocket. He's got his entire life planned out with his high school sweetheart, Sarah. The only problem is, she's disappeared. She won't answer his calls, won't respond to his texts, and her parents' stories about where she is become increasingly more suspicious.

Between sleepless nights and helplessness, Sam is falling apart at the seams. Can he learn to live with the unknown?

The need to please her boyfriend, Connor, has driven Hayley to some places she never intended to go. And while she knows that, her parents' interventions are neither appreciated nor welcomed.

After she decides to leave a night out with Connor early, she wakes up to her life in shambles. Not only has her boyfriend betrayed her, but he lied to her parents. And now?

She's being sent to hell on earth.

Oklahoma.

Hayley's Hayfield is a clean contemporary romance set in a fictional small town in Oklahoma. While it does not contain cursing or adult content, it does touch on difficult topics that are listed in the front of the book.

🧺🌾 Book Review: Blink, Oklahoma Series by Lainey Ross @authorlaineyross
⭐ 4.5/5 Stars for these sweet, small-town romances
Books Reviewed:
🌪️ Tornado Alley (Book 1)
🌻 Hayley’s Hayfield (Book 2)

From page one, I felt like I’d settled onto a warm front porch with sweet tea in hand, the scent of hay in the air. Lainey Ross writes with such tender honesty, blending heart, humor, and romance into stories that feel like home.

Tornado Alley brings the laughs with Southern sass and stormy chemistry. It’s witty, clean, and full of sharp banter and slow-burn tension — the kind of love story that simmers.

Hayley’s Hayfield softens the pace with a coming-of-age sweetness. Hayley is a heroine full of faith, grit, and grace, learning to trust her heart in a world that feels both heavy and hopeful. Her story is like a quiet sunrise — gentle, real, and full of purpose.

Together, these books offer everything I crave in clean romance — meaningful characters, small-town charm, and love that grows steady and true.

If you love:
🌿 Slow-burn, no-spice romance
🐇 Enemies-to-lovers & second chances
☕ Cozy settings + Southern charm
…this series might be your next favorite escape.

🌸 Vibe: Wildflowers, porches, cozy quilts, lantern light, and the quiet strength of a Southern heart.

⚠️ Content Warnings:
Mild language (very minimal)
Family tension and emotional miscommunication
Minor romantic conflict
Some small-town drama

📖✨ Final Thoughts:
Lainey Ross’s Blink, Oklahoma series is like a slow dance in a summer storm — stirring, sweet, and full of heart. From the whirlwind romance of Tornado Alley to the tender roots of Hayley’s Hayfield, this is the kind of series that reminds you why love and home matter most.

Hayley's Hayfield is another great book from Lainey Ross. I loved her first book "Tornado Ally" and I loved Hayley's Hayfield just as much as Tornado Ally. 🙂

I loved that the storyline of Hayley's Hayfield includes elements from Tornado Ally including a special cameo appearance in chapter 7.

Another thing I loved was watching Hayley and Sam's friendship grow throughout the story and eventually leading to them being more than just friends. And I really loved that despite what happened in both of their past relationships, it didn't stop them from finding love again with each other.

One of my favorite parts of Hayley's Hayfield was the scene in the rain in chapter 73. (I won't reveal more so I don't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the book yet.) But it's a really sweet scene. 🥰

Hayley's Hayfield is 100% a five star read for me and I can't wait to read whatever Lainey writes next! 🩷

Just a quick note to close out this review: This story does contain a bit of heavier subject matter that is addressed in the author's note at the beginning of the book.

*I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Hayley and Sam ensure some wild rides in their stories characteristic of small town romance stories.

It’s set in the same town as her first book, Tornado Ally, and there’s mentions of characters from it too.

Honestly, Hayley annoyed the crap out of me for the first half of the book. I just couldn’t vibe with her holier than thou attitude and brattiness. Obviously, she has a character arc and redeems herself by the end. But I definitely struggled at times to not just skip parts of her chapters because she irritated me.

Sam’s “woe is me” attitude was a bit much too, but at least he rectified it about the same time Hayley started improving.

I think parts of the story dragged on a bit too long. This could’ve been at least 100 pages shorter and cut out a lot of the repetition. I promise readers can remember something that happened 5 pages ago. You don’t have to recount it all over again. This was my main issue with this book.

Overall, an easy read that you can somewhat power through quickly.

Another great small town YA romance of a couple from two different worlds! I absolutely adore this book!! Hayley, a girl who just graduated from high school in California who is rebellious and hangs with the wrong crowd. Sam, a farm boy who was ghosted by a girl who he thought he would be spending his life with.

Seeing the two of them form a friendship and working together was a fun and emotional rollercoaster. Both Sam and Hayley have shown a great amount of growth. You can truly feel their emotions throughout the book.

I love Aunt Betty so much!! She has a big heart and has been great with Hayley. She is definitely one of my favorite characters!

Love seeing the connections between this book and Tornado Ally! Seeing how a disaster truly brings a small town together is always heart warming.

Every so often I read a young adult romance that sweeps me away with its age-appropriate characters and actions and an intriguing plot…enter Hayley’s Hayfield. This kissing only, opposites attract romance features a friendship first relationship between Hayley, a 17 year old spoiled Californian sent to stay with her great aunt in Oklahoma, and Sam, an 18 year old farmer jilted by a past relationship trying to find his way. In addition to the slow burn romance, tough topics were mentioned and handled with care (addiction, infidelity, storm aftermath). Both the main characters showed immense growth and I adored the coming of age/rebuilding undertones of the plot. 4.25 stars

This YA book managed to explore BIG themes while still being YA. I found Hayley’s growth to be extremely pertinent to YA readers. Her struggles with anxiety, social media, and wanting to fit in, peer pressure, her desire to be loved by an older boyfriend in the wrong crowd- all this was very relevant to a teen reader. I also loved Sam, he was a great MMC. I’d recommend this book for YA readers 13+.

Reading YA with no smut and it just be a story can be a nice change of pace sometimes.

Lainey did such a good job of just telling a story about two kids going through the motions of figuring out life between graduating high school and figuring out adulthood. I can tell she will have more stories up her sleeve about the town of Blink, Oklahoma.

I really felt bad for Hayley. She was screaming for attention but never got it. Then they sent her away. Sam was done dirty and liked to just pick on the new girl in town. I never really got romantic vibes from their interactions. Maybe at the end?
