I really enjoyed both the plethora of colorful images that were packed into this book along with the snippets of Amish culture, history and lifestyle. The latter explaining many of the choices of quilt design and color choice. In the modern quilt movement that seems to be happening these days it is inspiring to look to a group of quilts that seem to already embody much of "todays aesthetic" even if they were made over 100 years ago. Nothing is new! They are beautiful, artistic and inspiring.... now I want to go quilt.
Bought this when we were visiting a quilt museum in Pennsylvania. Lots of photos. Very interesting to see the number and wide range of quilt patterns. Would have been helpful to include close-up photos showing the stitched designs across the body and filling the border of the quilts. The stitching is just as interesting as the use of color and cut out fabric pieces and it is very difficult to see the detail in the photos – although if you take a photo of the page and enlarge it you can see the beautiful stitchwork more easily. Copy fairly dry. Drawing a connection between the visuals of Amish daily life and the quilt patterns feels a bit forced, but on the other hand, not much else to say to explain the origin of the design themes. Decent introduction on the topic .
Another one from Mum and Dad on the 98/98 US trip, whilst we were in the quilt stores..... such yummy stuff. Lovely patterns here, also a good summation of how the Amish philosophy works. I have made my brother a quilt based on one of the patterns in the book.
A very basic introduction to Amish quilts. Light on historical and textile info, though it does contain many photos of beautiful quilts, grouped by quilt pattern and/or style.
