The Reyes Siblings #3

The Fallacy of True Love

Rate this book
The city boy with a promising future meets the beach town girl with a troubled past in this unlikely romance.

Alonzo Reyes has everything going for him: a close-knit family, a scholarship to law school, and his dream girlfriend. He’s golden…or so it seems. In reality, he’s floundering on the brink of that dreaded f-word. Failure.

After a revelation pushes him over the edge, he escapes to the waves of La Union and crashes right into the town’s resident grumpy surfer.

Cam Cruz has no blood ties, no college degree, and no boyfriend. But she loves her life near the sea with friends who feel like family. All she needs is a stable job—not an annoyingly attractive boy from Manila messing up her flow.

Alonzo can’t help being intrigued by the one girl he can’t seem to charm, and no matter how many times Cam says goodbye, fate has other plans. When their paths cross again, they learn that there’s more to each other than meets the eye. Judgments are questioned, emotions are compromised, and soon, their beliefs about love are put to the test. Can they overcome their differences for the chance at an epic ride, or will they play it safe and stick to solid ground?

The Fallacy of True Love is a strangers-to-lovers contemporary romance with angst and spice. It is the last book in the Reyes Siblings series but can be read as a standalone.

golden retriever energy indeed! i was a goner, and all it took were the hand-written notes 😭

this book felt like free therapy. yes, its a romance but there was so much vulnerability wrapped in their conversations and in the character's storylines that you'll finish the book feeling like the words said were things you needed to hear.

on another note, the banter is top-tier! we love good comebacks and cam and alonzo didn't disappoint 🤪

this was a lovely way to wrap up the trilogy for the Reyes siblings. though each book focused on one them, their family dynamic was integrated to the story so thoughtfully that you could also picture each sibling's futures as the series progresses.

that said though, would it be too much to ask for a novella on Nikki and Eric's story? 😜

ARC REVIEW

Thank you Anj for a copy of this wonderful book!

What a great way to start Buwan ng Wika because I just finished a book by a local author that pulled me right out of my reading slump: Anj Miranda's latest! It's so easy to read – I flew through it. (She is officially my new fave local author, btw)

I nearly screamed when I found out it was set in Elyu! (My first trip there was last June, and I'm even going back this August) So yep because of TFOTL, my love for Elyu has gone big. Any book set in this province is now my new fave genre 🥹

Let's talk about Alonzo and Cam. You know a book's a winner when you connect with the characters. Cam's struggle with putting up walls? Totally me. Only a Filipina author can write a Black Cat girlie like this! And Alonzo's relationship with his micromanaging dad? So relatable and important to see being discussed. It's tough when parents still control adult kids, and this book nails that feeling.

Anj Miranda's writing is truly something special. It's so smooth and engaging, but then she'll hit you with a line that's just pure poetry. Alonzo's letters to Cam? The best part 😩🩷

If you need a heartfelt, relatable read with stunning prose and a cool setting, grab this one! You won't regret it.

SO GOOD!!! this is probably my most favourite among the three in the series

the banter—TOP TIER! i always loved a good enemies to lovers characters. they honestly felt so real—their struggles, their happiness, every emotion felt so real like as if i'm reading a non-fiction. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEIR RELATIONSHIP!!! & to ms. anj, you're a genius for making their banter like that. CHEF'S KISS

i really liked how they dealt w each others conflict, their decision making is in another level. i adored cam so much—she handle things very well and how she set boundaries for herself especially when trying new things. it's always the probinsyanas who got good humor :p

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MS. ANJ FOR PROVIDING ME A COPY OF ARC. 💐 im so excited for people who preordered your book to finally read it and hit the shelves. I WILL BUY ONE PROMISE! (magiipon po muna ako)

✨ARC Review✨ Thank you Anj for this opportunity!
I have fallen in love with the Reyes siblings, and I’m kind of sad to be saying goodbye to this trio.
Cam and Alonzo’s story was beautifully written. City boy, beach girl. Golden retriever, black cat. The protectiveness Alonzo had over Cam. Chef kiss 😚
Spice level: 3/5 a few spicy scenes that I chose to skip over, but it did not interfere with the story

My review as someone who has Anj Miranda as her first Filipino author is:

The book definitely did not disappoint! (I'm happy this was the first ARC I received)

I didn’t anticipate the growth that the FL would experience, especially considering the significant contribution of the ML since it’s more like male problems in other books.

I appreciate how the traumas are portrayed and handled in the book. It also made me feel seen since I can somehow relate to both characters.

I’m delighted for Cam and Lonzo and love how they each confronted their own challenges.

As a book with 2 prequel books, you don't need read the first two to understand this third book. I'm glad how it wasn't confusing at all as someone who started with this book 🤣

[ARC REVIEW]

The Fallacy of True Love is a contemporary romance set in the Philippines (La Union to be exact) 🌊🐚that dares to ask the uncomfortable question: what if love isn’t enough? Through a narrative woven with longing, heartbreak, and self-discovery, Anj Miranda captures the complicated truths behind relationships that feel both inevitable and impossible.😩✊

The novel follows the emotional journey of its protagonists as they navigate the pull of passion against the weight of personal growth and the baggage of past wounds. What makes the story stand out is its refusal to present love as a neat, magical cure-all. Instead, Miranda allows her characters to stumble, make mistakes, and confront their own flaws, resulting in a romance that feels grounded in reality.❤️

The pacing is deliberate, giving readers time to sit with each moment with the stolen glances, the unspoken resentments, the quiet realizations. 🌻The writing carries an emotional honesty that makes the characters’ pain resonate deeply, and their small moments of joy feel hard-earned. There’s a richness in the way the author portrays intimacy but not just in physical closeness, but in the vulnerability of truly letting another person see you.

While the book does not shy away from the bittersweet, it never loses its undercurrent of hope. Love, here, is messy and imperfect, but it is also transformative.🌸🌺🌷 Readers who crave romance with substance with a story that reflects both the beauty and the fallibility of human connection which will find themselves deeply moved.

In the end, The Fallacy of True Love isn’t just about romance; it’s about the courage to love even when the outcome is uncertain, and the quiet bravery of choosing oneself when love demands too much.

Definitely a 5/5 read! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Also, I love Alonzo! I will now read the two books before this in the Reyes Siblings Series!!!!

Anj Miranda’s writing is truly magical. It sucks you right in and keeps you glued from start to end. I swooned. I blushed. I fanned myself. This was so good 🤌🏻 it almost / kind of (?) dethroned the second book in my heart. I honestly cannot pick between the two now. Haha. This is also the spiciest among the three (🌶️🌶️🌶️👀), but it was done so well and in a way that feels right for both characters. I feel sad that the The Reyes Siblings series is over. This has been my most anticipated read for the year and i cannot even slow down my reading to prolong it. This was such a page-turner!! For lovers of romance i really recommend miss Anj Miranda, her works will not fail you. 🙌🏻 💕

You’ll love this book if you enjoy:
🌊 strangers to lovers
🩵 golden retriever x black cat
🌊 opposites attract
🩵 found family
🌊 dislike to love
🩵 he falls first and harder

༉‧₊˚ quick rundown:
Alonzo Reyes, the overachiever city guy that he is, finds solitude in the beautiful beach town of Juana, located in La Union, as he seeks refuge from the mounting conflicts and challenges in his relationships and academic life. Little did he know, he would find his true love and friends who would become family in that lovely place.

༉‧₊˚ thoughts:
What a bittersweet feeling it is to have finally finished reading this series while knowing you’re going to miss the characters, especially the Reyes Siblings!! 🥹 I am truly grateful to Ms. @authoranjmiranda for her trust in granting me the ARC of not just Alonzo’s story, but of Luna’s as well (since I was able to buy the book with Tala’s story on sale 😉).

Alonzo—you walking green flag!! 😫💚 I couldn’t blame Cam, the snob, fierce, and guarded black cat that she is, for softening up for this sweet and thoughtful golden retriever of a man—like, who wouldn’t?? The way he pays attention to Cam’s wants and needs really left an impression on me. And those little love notes?? Mannn… 😍

I appreciate how we get nuggets of wisdom and validation in Ms. Anj’s writing here. The novel not only tells the beautiful love story of Alonzo and Cam, but it also explores the beauty and complications of a typical Filipino family, making it very relatable.

Although fictional, Juana’s description makes me want to go there someday! 🌊 That’s how brilliantly Ms. Anj depicted the picturesque coastal town. And the people?? Well, I can’t blame Cam for never wanting to leave the town! 💖

Loved this series. Lonzo and Cam's love story is very sweet. True golden retriever x black cat with him falling first and hardddd!! Found family, long distance relationship, past trauma and trust issues, and complicated family dynamics with a sprinkling of surf & beach vibes! It’s an enjoyable read! A perfect ending to a lovely sibling series.

ARC was received from the author in exchange for an honest review! Thank you so much for sharing this series with me!

THE FALLACY OF TRUE LOVE ARC REVIEW
𓇼𓇼𓇼𓇼𓇼𓇼/5 stars
This book made me want to pack my bags and visit Santa Juanita. Like, seriously. The setting felt so alive, it made me want to walk its streets, eat where the characters ate, and just soak up the whole vibe. But what really hit me was how one of the quotes mirrored my own feelings about medicine. That whole journey, from years of studying, memorizing, prepping for exams, and constantly doubting if this was really the right path for me, was just... there. On paper. And it made me feel so seen, especially as someone who often feels like I’m falling behind my peers who took shorter, less chaotic courses.

Cam’s circle of friends (Nikki, Jo, Eric) was such a warm part of the story. It reminded me so much of my own circle. The way they supported each other, the way they bickered, laughed, existed ugh. Loved it. And speaking of Eric and Nikki... if they ever get their own book, I will be there. First in line. No questions asked.

And okay, the sibling dynamics? Chef’s kiss. Alonso and his siblings were chaotic in the best way, and their bond reminded me of mine with my own brothers. Except mine lived their best lives while I was stuck in a room studying formulas and memorizing anatomy terms. So yeah, I felt Cam’s jealousy deep in my soul.

I also loved Cam’s tattoos and the meaning behind each one. As a girl who gets insecure way too easily, it hit me how personal and empowering those tattoos were to her. Society can be brutal with all the expectations on how we should look and be, so seeing her take ownership of her body and her story through ink? It felt like getting advice from a big sister I never had.

Also, I love the beach. No deeper reason. Just needed to say it.

Let’s talk about Cam and Alonso’s banter. It was giving everything it needed to give. Cam’s blunt honesty and Alonso just rolling with it? Obsessed. And I loved how she never had to change herself around him. She could just be. No pretending. Just her. Also... Alonso? Green. Flag.

And the way he took his time with her, never rushed her, always showed up... I just melted. Like when he kept checking up on her and visiting her at home, even when she was being her usual "I hate people" self. He really said, "If there’s a will, there’s a way," and I loved that for them.

I remember reading one line, “Why is living so expensive?” and I was like, girl, same. Living in the Philippines isn’t for the weak. That line took me out.

One of the quotes that truly hit me went like this: “People can be nice and still not be good for you. It was the nice ones who ended up hurting you the most because you never saw it coming.” That hurt. Because it’s true. The ones who smile and say all the right things but leave you doubting your worth when they walk away? Yeah. Been there. Learned the hard way too.

There was also that moment Cam was overwhelmed and overthinking, and all I could think was “bahala na si Batman sa buhay ko” HAHAHAH. Truly, we are the same person. And when I saw the quote that said the what-ifs will always be there but she’s choosing to focus on what she can control... that was it. That was the life advice I needed. It’s literally my new motto now.

And lastly, that bond between Alonso and his mom? That had no business making me cry before bed like that.

This book isn’t just a romance it’s a comfort read. It’s for the overthinkers, the big-hearted, the people still figuring themselves out. It made me feel seen, hugged, and a little less alone. Definitely one for the reread shelf.

Overall I absolutely love this book, this book made me sob, laugh, smile and asked google "WHERE CAN I FIND THIS TYPE OF LOVE???!" I would give it 6 stars out of 5 stars (yess another 6 stars:)) it's just too good)

“People can be nice and still not be good for you.”

“I believe we all have the right people who’ll see us for who we are and like us more for it.”

“But maybe you don’t have to aim for perfect all the time. Maybe progress is just as good.”

“That’s such a stupid concept. Love. It’s illogical.” , “It is. But I think things don’t always have to make sense or be perfect for them to be worthwhile. To be real.”

“Sometimes you don’t need to have all the facts to know when something’s right for you. Sometimes it’s just a feeling you get deep in your soul.”

~*•*~

In the first two books, Lonzo always came across as the golden child - the super smart, perfect sibling who could do no wrong and was clearly the family favorite. But this time around, we finally get to see what’s really going on inside his head. The pressure, the constant exhaustion, and those never-ending doubts that just keep gnawing at him. It’s like peeling back the layers of that "perfect" image and realizing he's the embodiment of what so many call the "Asian trophy child" who is constantly striving for perfection, whether he wants it or not.

His relationship with Dani felt like it was made for the world to see. On the surface, they were the perfect match: intelligent, attractive, and with the same initial big-law career dreams. But beneath that, there were so many unspoken insecurities and quiet differences, and you could just feel that it wasn’t as picture-perfect as it looked. It was almost like a performance, and honestly, it didn’t take long to see that it might not last.

Then Maya steps into the picture. She couldn’t be more different from Lonzo. Maya is a free spirit, unapologetically herself, with a beauty that doesn’t fit the usual mold. She’s a college dropout who made her own way in life. And in her, Lonzo starts to see the world in a way he never expected.

~*•*~

Maya and Lonzo’s relationship wasn’t perfect, but that’s what made it feel so real. Lonzo put in the effort without overwhelming Maya, always showing her he cared while respecting her space. This is something I really appreciated since Maya has a tendency to pull away. Then there’s Maya, who, in her quiet and shy way, showed her affection for Lonzo. The little moments she shared with him felt so genuine and unforced. And let’s not ignore the palpable sexual tension between them! But despite those steamy moments, what I loved was how their everyday interactions weren’t charged with desire or frustration. They just felt comforting, like Maya said.

Their relationship really embodied what it means to be each other’s “pahinga” - a place of rest. It was about compromise, letting things unfold naturally, and never pressuring each other. There was a calmness in their dynamic that made it feel so much easier and real.

~*•*~

Overall, while the writing might not have been flawless but the rawness and authenticity of their connection made this story so much more relatable and enjoyable. It felt like something you could really connect with, imperfections and all.

This is my first time writing a goodreads review so I may have gone overboard and rambled too much but I just can't help it.

The Fallacy of True Love by Anj Miranda delivers a heartfelt, beach-town romance between golden-retriever-law-student Alonzo and guarded, blunt Cam/Maya, blending swoony banter, slow-burn chemistry, and emotional honesty. The setting spans from the fictional beach town of Juana, La Union and Metro Manila. It explores love as messy, imperfect, and transformative—rooted in mutual respect, personal growth, and resilience. With standout side characters, immersive setting, and a balance of humor, spice, and heartfelt moments, this third Reyes Siblings book is my favorite conclusion that leaves readers laughing, crying, and longing for an Alonzo-style love of their own.

⭐ Rating:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Anj Miranda is skilled in writing nuanced relationships, strong character arcs and immersive settings. A bittersweet but satisfying conclusion to the Reyes Siblings series.
🌶️ Spice Rating:
🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Tame but vivid descriptions, the spiciest in the Reyes Siblings series

💭 What I Loved:
The story rejects the “love as a cure-all,” showing characters working through personal baggage, misunderstandings, and long-distance challenges while maintaining hope. Cam and Alonzo (in particular) are particularly relatable to me, a hopelessly in love person in a long-distance relationship.
Alonzo is a “green flag” all around, but he’s no saint. Meanwhile, Cam is prickly, initially judgmental but with meaningful character growth. I love the description of her tattoos; it is so her, but also reminds me of Tris from Divergent, and equally strong and independent female lead. Their exchanges and banter are funny, vulnerable, and feels natural. The side characters added warmth and found-family vibes. I cared enough about their challenges as well, despite their limited appearances. I want to visit Santa Juanita! The beach town is charming and cozy; the perfect reprieve for weary travelers. Alonzo’s personal challenges with success and family resonates with me. I connected personally with themes of self-worth, societal expectations, resilience, and choosing oneself when love demands too much.

🔥 Favorite Moment/Quote:
“I’d been gone for two nights—and I was twenty-one. A legal adult. Yet I had to explain myself because I was living under our parents’ roof.”
I’m 27—about to be 28 next month, and I am in the same boat. Unlike Alonzo though, I am an eldest daughter. There is an added expectation of marriage, having kids and being more mature than male counterparts. I understand that we will forever be our parents’ children, and it’s hard to accept the passage of time and the changes that come along with it. Just like Alonzo, I wish to be given some grace in figuring things that work for me on my own. And then there’s this line from Alonzo:
“I don’t hate talking to people, but I’m not a fan of small talk and I often get impatient when the conversation is going nowhere. I know where I’ll be a year from now, but I don’t know whether I will be as successful as people assume I’ll be.”
I have an unhealthy relationship with success that I am trying to fix. Given that I am also a hopelessly in love person, this and Alonzo’s entire spiel on this page is so relatable.

I received a free advance copy of this book for review purposes. I was not paid to write this review, and all opinions are my own.

The Fallacy of True Love is the third installment in the Reyes Siblings series, and this time we follow Alonzo—the youngest Reyes sibling and a total city boy—as he unexpectedly falls for his polar opposite, Cam, a sharp-witted, steel-strong beach town girl.
Thrown together in a series of less-than-ideal first encounters, the two form quick (and not exactly flattering) opinions of each other—especially Cam, who’s quick to judge Alonzo based on his actions. But beneath all the tension and misunderstandings, undeniable chemistry brews, particularly from Alonzo’s side. With his sisters Tala and Luna as role models, Alonzo wears his heart on his sleeve, falling hard and fast for Cam and doing everything he can to win her trust—despite the looming challenge of their long-distance reality.
What makes their romance compelling is how deeply it explores the idea of love blooming in unlikely places. Alonzo’s dreams of becoming a lawyer are clearly shaped by his upbringing and desire to earn his place in the world. With his sisters as his role models, he knows exactly how to treat a woman—with intention, effort, and lots of heart. His love notes to Cam were honestly chef’s kiss—sweet, heartfelt, and swoon-worthy! Even while juggling law school and a part-time job, he still managed to show up for her.
Cam, on the other hand, was initially a tough character to warm up to. She came across as guarded, temperamental, and quick to judge—but it’s soon revealed that her past plays a huge part in how she navigates the world. Her close bonds with Nikki, Jo, Eric, and Inang in the beachside town of Juana highlight her more vulnerable, affectionate side. Watching her slowly begin to trust Alonzo and let her walls down was genuinely rewarding.
Miranda pulled off the opposites-attract, enemies-to-lovers dynamic so well—especially given how difficult Cam was to root for at first 😅 (Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t fall for Alonzo and all his acts of service?!)
It was also such a treat to revisit beloved characters from the earlier books—Tala, Jason, Luna, and Gabe made delightful appearances that added warmth and continuity to the story.
If you love a slow-burn romance with heart, spice, and characters who challenge each other in the best (and sometimes most frustrating) ways, pick The Fallacy of True Love up when it releases in August.

Would you believe this is my 12th ARC received this year? I can't thank enough authors who entrust me to read and review their books!

I have read Anj Miranda's The Off-Chance of Me and You and found her writing light, heartfelt, and genuinely enjoyable. Now, let's talk about The Fallacy of True Love.

The story's main character involves another Reyes sibling - Alonzo and Cam, a beach town girl.

First, let's dissect the characters.

❤️ Alonzo - the golden retriever. A city boy, student taking law, supportive and kindhearted. But beneath that, he carries personal struggles he faces alone. He still lives under his parents’ roof while his sisters are successful (one’s even engaged to an NBA star!). Not to mention his relationship with his father is a constant push-and-pull. Add to that a heartbreak he’s still nursing, and you’ll see there’s more to him than his easygoing exterior.
❤️ Cam - a black cat type: And as the book cover suggests, she’s not your typical female lead. Not overly polished, sexy, or fair-skinned stereotypes. Just a feisty, independent, and making a living through freelance work while living alone in the province.

So, what happens when they met? I love that this book showed that we do not have a lot of good reasons to fall. Not all things should make sense. Anj wrote Alonzo’s persistence with just the right balance. Determined enough to reach Cam, but respectful enough to give her space. The letters sent in advanced?! YES!

Also, for Cam, a somewhat damaged soul, was never forced to magically change in this story. She remained true to herself, only softening and opening up because of love. I love how Anj made this sense on her character!

In the end, the title made sense to me even more. Love is not how we idealized it to be always a fairy-tale kind of love. Instead, it’s about love coexisting with flaws, wounds, and unresolved struggles. And maybe, inspiring both to overcome these struggles together.

Thank you, Anj Miranda for trusting me this ARC so I can continue sharing that we have incredible storytellers who create amazing, swoon-worthy reads.

The Fallacy of True Love will be out on August 12, 2025!

ARC Review 🌊
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

“Sometimes you don’t need to have all the facts to know when something’s right for you. Sometimes it’s just a feeling you get deep in your soul.”

“Life’s full of risks. You just need to calculate which ones are worth taking.”

——

HAPPY RELEASE DAY THE FALLACY OF TRUE LOVE!! Reyes Siblings, 3/3 🤍

First and foremost, thank you Anj for the opportunity to be one of your ARC readers.

🌊 Cam/ Maya’s character got on my nerves at the beginning of the story 😆 her judge mental attitude and snarky comments left me annoyed especially at the beginning when she interacts with Alonzo. Though, after all what she had been through, it is also understandable why she is the way she is. As the story progresses, she does have an amazing and beautiful character growth and development. I like how strong, brave, independent and straightforward she is. Among all the main characters of the series, she is the most relatable one.

🌊 As for Alonzo, he is surely raised well by Tala and Luna. He gives off so much golden retriever energy and like his sister Luna, he gives of a sunshine vibe. His patience, compassion, understanding and how he always go beyond the bare minimum AND princess treatment. I just hate how Dani treated him, plus Dani got on my nerves worse than Cammy. Lonzo might be my favorite MMC of all three.

🌊 Cam and Lonzo together though is chefs kiss! Total opposite but I like how Lonzo can handle Cam. They complement each other so well and I also like how Cam can compromise and be honest with Lonzo even though she always gets annoyed with him. I love how they are so protective and soft towards their loved ones and I love their dynamic when they are together before and after becoming a couple!

🌊 If there is one thing Anj is also good at is she always writes stand out side characters!! This book has my most favorite side characters! I love Nikki’s overall character, Jo being the one who brings happiness to everyone, Eric who is a friend you can absolutely count on anytime and Inang, being the sweetest 🤍

I am sad that the series has come to an end but excited as to what the future has in store for the author 🥰 Congratulations Anj for a beautiful and memorable series 🤍

[ARC COPY] A Heartwarming Read: "The Fallacy of True Love" by Anj Miranda

I have to say, it’s another great addition to her beautiful collection of stories! I was lucky enough to read it while enroute to Belfast, and it truly made the journey even more special.

The story centers around Alonzo, the youngest in the series, and Cam. I love how the book showcases the beauty of being comfortable in your own skin. As a Filipina, it was especially heartwarming to see a Filipina FMC like Cam, who is not just beautiful but also strong, courageous, and full of heart. Her resilience despite life's hassles is incredibly inspiring, and I found myself deeply attracted to her soulful character.

Alonzo, on the other hand, is written so flawlessly. His quirks, weirdness, and boyish view of the world make him so relatable. His intense emotions and genuine kindness make him a character I truly adore. His depth of feeling adds a layer of authenticity that pulls you into his world.

The side characters, including Tala, Jason, Luna, and Gabe, beautifully depict familial bonds and the realistic nuances of relationships. I especially appreciated the portrayal of the father and son, Juan and Alonzo, which touches on the truth of OFWs—the longing, fears, and sacrifices. I wish there were more conversations between them; I believe those moments could have added even more depth.

The relationship between Alonzo and Cam is heartwarming. Despite being at opposite ends, they find ways to see each other and understand what truly matters—respect, friendship, and love that evolves naturally. Their story is a testament to the resilience of love and friendship.

My only wish is that the story delved a bit deeper into some aspects, but I genuinely loved how quick, sweet, and smooth the read was—perfect for getting from point A to point B without feeling rushed.

I absolutely love Filipino authors! Mabuhay ka, Ms. Anj! Your stories bring authenticity to Filipino culture, capturing both provincial and city life with the same heartfelt spirit. The contrast between the settings highlights the richness of our culture and the universality of love and family.

Thank you for sharing your stories, Ms. Anj. They truly mean a lot!

The Fallacy of True Love is a strangers-to-lovers contemporary romance following Alonzo Reyes, the youngest of the 3 Reyes Siblings, and Camaya Cruz, in this whirlwind of a love story. Lonzo, a city boy with golden retriever energy, meets Cam a beach town girl who’s very much a black cat. Both are very different people, but they’re pulled together by circumstances, curiosity, and the need to know more about each other.

The characters are my favorite part of the book. I love almost every one of them, mostly because they generally feel real and relatable. Ironically, as much as I love Alonzo’s character, there was some disconnect with me because of the similarities in some parts of his experience. I don’t know if that’s a reflection of some unprocessed feelings on my part, but it was hard for me to grasp the idea of a 2/3 month romance between him and Cam. I think I just needed more fleshing out in that department despite the on-page mentions of it being a “possible rebound”. Now, with Cam. It’s easy to not like her, as in if you personally meet her and you’re not used to straightforward people. Cam has a seasoned past that would make you understand why she is the way she is. And I love how realistic that is.

The presence—and absence—of family dynamics also played a huge role in both the plot and the character development and it’s another thing I love with Anj’s stories. The kind of dynamics that make you wish you had them, and inspire you to want the same in the future.

The story focused on Cam and Alonzo, but it also shone a light on the other characters at all the right moments. And I think that’s one of the things I also love about this. There are romance books that focus solely on the main characters, and I’m not saying that sucks! The beauty of The Fallacy of True Love is that the minor characters make the main ones shine even more! They support but don’t overpower.

If you love grumpy x sunshine characters, a strangers-to-lovers pipeline, and representation of a healthy family and found family dynamics, then read The Fallacy of True Love!

they say opposites attract, and for Alonzo and Maya, that was the heart of their love story. He's a city boy energized by the constant buzz of skyscrapers, and she's a beach girl who finds peace in the sound of crashing waves.

this final book of The Reyes Siblings Series is so special to me. It’s set in the Philippines, and the descriptions of places like the serene shores of San Juanita give me a sense of comfort that makes me feel so connected 🌊

alonzo's story is a raw look at a life that wasn't perfect, and it hits harder than I ever expected. He’s just a dreamer who wants to help his family, be loved, and build a life for himself—a struggle that feels incredibly real. Maya, on the other hand, is a fiery, independent force whose strength is truly inspiring. She’s a testament to resilience, not just because she rose above cruel opinions about her weight, but also because she bravely navigated life's challenges as an orphan. I love how she worked so hard to make her own way despite all the obstacles. 🫀✨

their first meeting might not have been a good one, but the slow-burn development of their relationship made it all worthwhile. Their love is far from perfect and somehow new, but having each other by their side makes every challenge manageable. It's in the quiet moments of mutual respect and deep understanding that their relationship truly shines.

this book is amazing! Miss Anj's writing is incredible and has me hoping for an Alonzo-style romance of my own. Bukod kang pinagpala CAMAYA!!!! 😌💙

P.S. In my imagination, Alonzo is Donny Pangilinan! 👀👀

Happy Pub Day! The Fallacy of True Love is the third and final book in the Reyes Siblings. We follow Alonzo, the youngest among the siblings, as he crossed paths with Cam, a strong-minded beach town girl.

I was hooked from the very beginning. This book is set in a small beach town in the Philippines and I loved the vibrant description of the place. Miranda’s writing is engaging and very beautiful.

Cam is fierce, loyal, and independent. She is not someone who is easy to warm up to. She is a bit grumpy and her past experience made her distrust people. Alonzo is a dreamer. He wants to be a lawyer since he’s six years old. He hates disappointing his family especially his father. He is dedicated and hardworking. He is also a walking green flag. The handwritten notes? Seriously. The chemistry between Cam and Alonzo was captivating. I enjoyed the banters too. I loved how they do unexpected and sweet things for each other. I thought the romance was perfect. It was heartwarming to see how Cam slowly opens up to Alonzo. How they accept each other. All the scars and flaws. Nothing beats a healthy romantic relationship and I loved that for them.

The conversations between Alonzo and his parents made me tear up. I found it so relatable. Some of my favorite tropes are present in this book such as sibling dynamics, found family, and opposites attract. I have yet to pick up the first two books but I didn’t feel lost while reading this one. It can definitely read as a stand-alone. It made me more excited to meet Alonzo’s sisters, Tala and Luna.

The Fallacy of True Love is more than just a romance book. It’s about recognizing your worth, finding genuine happiness, and taking chances both in life and love.

Thank you to the author for my arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great addition to the series!  The writing, as usual, is really good ☺️ As with the other previous installments, there is still that kilig (in english, it roughly translates to a feeling of being giddy, or the fluttery thrill of being in love), and in this time around, there's definitely more spice!🌶️

In this book, I think I have a deeper understanding of Alonzo now, being the only sibling left behind, in the constant watch of his parents despite him already being an adult. To be completely honest, and I think I've said this in my review of book two, I didn't like Alonzo that much.  Simply because as the youngest sibling, he comes off as being so entitled to everything.  If I remember correctly, he asked his Ate Luna (older sister) for money to fund his vacation because he needs a break from studying.  And he was also so opposed to Gabe being Luna's boyfriend, like boy, you don't have the right😂  Do I think he still needs to mature as a person? Absolutely.  He can come across as annoying, but deep down he is a really sensitive guy.  He is a very caring brother and son, and always exercises his due diligence, in studies and otherwise🤭

On the other hand, Cam is the grumpy one, who bitches her way through life.  I also got really annoyed at her until I found out about her backstory.  I think her redemption arc played a pivotal role in developing the whole plot.  I also really admire her confidence in herself, in her skills, in her own skin and body.  It's so refreshing to see an FMC who despite her insecurities, knows what she's worth and I think that is what's really attractive about her.

PS: I would love to read a book about Nikki and Eric though (Cam's friends)😅  Overall, I highly recommend!☺️

Thank you Anj for a free copy of this book!

& just like that, I finished the Reyes siblings series and I AM NOT OKAY. This book follows Alonzo (Tala and Luna’s brother) who lives in the Philippines. He’s currently studying law and due to some unforeseen circumstances and the pressure to be the best that he can be, he finally breaks and runs off to La Union. This is where we meet our FMC, Cam. She is the definition of a black cat. She’s wildly independent and grumpy but you can’t help but want to know more about her.

To be honest, Lonzo was not my favorite after coming off book 2 but we finally get a chance to see how his life is like in the Philippines. We see the struggles he faces when it comes to his independence and his relationship with his dad. I ended up rooting for him when he finally stood his ground and realized he needed to focus on other things besides studying and work. His conversation with his mom made me tear up and if you need some inner child healing due to your parents’ / your own pressure to always be the best while sacrificing your own happiness… please read this!!

Cam and Lonzo’s relationship starts off really rocky in this book. Cam really doesn’t want to trust Lonzo but Lonzo still manages to get through her tough exterior. Cam has such a pessimistic mindset and would rather “prepare for the worst and be pleasantly surprised’ and sometimes I related to her in some ways but other times, I wanted to slap her silly because she won’t give Lonzo a fair chance.
I loved their banter and their tension and they matched each other really well.. even though they had opposite outlooks on life. They both grew in their own ways but I’m glad they had each other to help them realize what they lacked.

I’m so sad this is over !!!!

Congrats to author Anj on her third book and thank you for trusting me with an ARC. It was such an honor to read it early! I planned to post this on launch day, but work got in the way 😄 so here I am, two days late.

Alonzo is the ultimate green flag. Sweet notes on scraps of paper, receipts, even paper placemats from their dates, plus his persistence in winning Cam over despite her pushing him away. Who wouldn’t fall for this city boy? (Totally reminded me of how I used to keep little mementos from my partner and I’s early dates hehe.)

Cam, on the other hand, is a strong, independent woman who wants nothing to do with the city. But when Alonzo comes crashing into her life like an unexpected wave, her view of the city shifts from bitter to sweet. Watching her slowly realize she’s falling for him is adorable and their opposite personalities make every interaction magnetic.

But this isn’t just romance, it also explores family struggles, with Alonzo balancing law school and the pressure of being the “perfect” student. What amazed me is how he never gave up on his dream and how Cam kept him on track with his studies whenever they were together. I found that incredibly sweet. There’s something so heartwarming about two people supporting each other in reaching their dreams.

This one was a sleeper hit for me—I initially gave it 4.25★ after I finished reading but as I reread my highlights and talked about the book, I really think this is a 5★ read!

When a romance story has me rooting for each individual character and the characters together, I know it's gonna be a good one. As with the other books in this series, Anj Miranda's solid character work shines in Alonzo and Cam.

Alonzo strikes the perfect balance between being a pushy and persistent guy when he knows what he wants and being respectful of Cam's needs and boundaries. Cam comes off as this abrasive, strong-willed, no-nonsense woman but you feel the genuine care and love that emanates from her whenever her found family is in the picture.

The story also touches on incredibly relatable struggles that each character had: fear of failure, job insecurity, bullying, body image, and more. Each topic was handled gently without minimizing things and I truly appreciate that.

The last 20% of the back had me sobbing over Alonzo's thoughtful gestures—he truly is a man with his heart on his sleeve! Out of the three books in the series, this is the least slow burn in terms of physical intimacy but slowest of burns when it comes to the emotional connection but the journey to getting there was worth it. Overall, this was a love story that I'm happy I had the privilege of reading.

Strangers with a twist of fate. Their first encounter was far from pleasant, and they judged each other based on that moment. Fresh from a breakup, Alonzo returned to La Union to clear his head, and little did he know, this trip would change both his perspective and his heart. Meeting Cam opened his eyes to new possibilities and gave him the courage to express his emotions, even towards his family.

This is a story of healing: Alonzo from the weight of his father’s strict expectations, and Cam from a dark, traumatic past. Their meeting feels destined, a reminder that while pain and trauma may remain hidden, there will always be someone your heart chooses to open up to.

Separated by Manila and La Union, they proved that distance isn’t measured in kilometers but in heartbeats and longing. Love finds a way. I especially loved how Alonzo sent Cam heartwarming messages - scribbled on torn paper, receipts, tickets, and more.

Alonzo calls Cam “Maya,” a bird species native to the Philippines, symbolizing his yearning for freedom from the sheltered and restrictive life imposed by his father. Likewise, Alon—meaning “wave”—can be drawn from Alonzo’s name. Cam embraces the roughness of the waves, knowing that no matter their size, she can conquer them just as she attempts to move forward and heal from her trauma. And just as they each sought freedom and love, they ultimately found what they had been searching for in life, in each other.

Thank you, Anj, for the ARC and for having me as part of your tour. I can’t wait to dive into the stories of Alonzo’s sisters next!

"What lay beneath the surface—that was for me and the few people I trusted. I could count them on one hand, and they were more than I ever dreamt I’d have.
In fact, they were more than enough."

In Juana, everything felt safe and right. That's why Cam stayed, and perhaps it's also the reason why Alonzo would always go back. The Fallacy of True Love is the third book in the Reyes Siblings Series, following the found family and unexpected romance of Alonzo and Cam. Despite the wounds of the past and the walls built to guard their hearts, this novel shows that relationships cannot be sustained with love alone; deep connection beyond physical attraction, trying to understand your partner even when it doesn't seem to make sense, trust in the person, and humbling yourself when mistakes are made.

The way Ms. Anj wrote this wasn't only with banter to make me giggle and kick my feet up, it was also written with subtle punches here and there, reminding me that being vulnerable towards certain people is okay. The characters showed that having flaws, past experiences, and built walls are also things that can be loved, as long as they're loved by the right person. The Fallacy of True Love is a compelling romance novel that speaks right through the heart about the fear of loving due to uncertainties, but also taking the leap of faith because of the courage to grab that genuine love you deserve.

When I started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. I’m such a sucker for a strong, independent woman paired with a golden retriever-type man — and this book delivered exactly that.

Cam (aka Island Girl) is my girl! She has such a strong, black-cat personality — blunt, fierce, and totally unapologetic. I loved every bit of her character.

Then there's Alonzo, the last of the Reyes siblings. He’s smart, tall, handsome — the definition of a golden retriever guy. He's genuinely kind, a little cringe (in the cutest way), and completely swoon-worthy.

Cam and Alonzo may not have had the smoothest start, but when they do get together, their chemistry is intense. I found myself smiling (and sometimes cringing in a good way) at Alonzo’s lines — he’s just so smooth, and it made my heart flutter.

There must be something about Juana — this island seems to draw in people who are broken and lost, and helps them find themselves again.

Alonzo’s secret notes to Cam? He’s so gone for her — and it’s ridiculously romantic.
WAAAAHHHH. The emotions. The risk. The vulnerability. WAHHH. Alonzo really raised my standards for men.

As I dive into the story, I discovered that each character carried deep emotional scars. Their journey of vulnerability and learning to trust again brought them closer together, creating a powerful bond between them.

✨✨ ARC Review ✨✨

I’m very honored to have been chosen as an ARC reader albeit delivering this review quite belated, and also very honored to bear witness to Lonzo and Cam’s story.

Can I just say that Lonzo… this man is THE STANDARD. There’s just no convincing me out of that opinion, his commitment and dedication to making Cam feel loved for and adored needs to be studied. I’d even go as far to say that he has to hold a whole masterclass.

I love how Cam’s story doesn’t get overshadowed by the romance and gets properly addressed, while Lonzo’s struggles also gets highlighted, realistically, in a story like this, both leads could’ve easily been portrayed as perfect and “could do no wrong” but I admire that they’re both portrayed as flawed. I also admire that both leads take the time to show understanding and patience for each other. Some people might disagree, saying that Lonzo deserves better but I’d argue that a relationship built by trust piece by piece such as theirs is actually just pulling at my heartstrings.

I also find admiration at how some parts of Filipino representation was sprinkled into the story, such as the cuisine and even the little tidbits of Cam shortcutting her texts just the way that most Filipinos do.

Overall, I’d say that this was a very invigorating read, just enough to actually get me out of my reading slump.

📚 Arc Review 📚

I was lucky enough to get the Arc for this delight of a book and I enjoyed it very much! This book had me Googling Filipino cuisine and craving it, food felt like an actual character which was a great cultural touch. I really enjoyed how real this book seemed, sometimes romance book feel out of touch with reality but this book is raw and vulnerable and very relatable.

I loved how the characters were introduced to us, we are able to get a feel of them. As an MFC Cam is everything you could ask for, she is independent, resourceful, loyal, she can be vulnerable. Alonzo is a dreamy MMC, I loved that he had his own struggles and didn’t shy away from talking about them and taking action. And the banter between Cam and Alonzo had me giggling and kicking my feet. The amount of highlighted lines on my Kindle is impressive.

I kind of feel sad that I didn’t read the first two books before but getting glimpses into Alfonzo’s sisters’ stories made me eager to read the first two books, too!

All in all this book was so much fun to read, and the romance was vulnerable, raw and mature which was very refreshing. The story and the characters are definitely going to stay with me for a while.

The Fallacy of True Love comes out on August 12!
