Dude! is the first in a series of short story anthologies for pre-teen and early-teen boys. Boys are unique. They love to read about objects in motion: rocket ships, hockey players, aliens, time machines, dinosaurs, detectives .... The list is as unlimited as their imaginations. Covering a range of genres, such as science fiction, fantasy, adventure, mystery, sports stories, and historical fiction, the stories in Dude!keep objects in motion and readers engaged and entertained. Jean and Heather are two experienced writers (and moms of dudes) who respect the curiosity, intelligence and sense of humour of their audience. Though written first for the enjoyment of young readers, Dude! has the potential to be used effectively in classrooms for readers in grades 6 through 9.
This is a collection of unrelated short stories of varying length, time period, and level of realism.
Not a bad collection, but the parts didn't really add up to a whole. Would probably appeal to its target audience--pre-teen and early teen boys--better than it did to me, but I really would have liked to see some correlation or transition between the stories.
