Grayson It only took one night with my “straight” best friend to change everything. I never would’ve crossed the friendship line with Austin, but he blazed over it, and we spent the most incredible night together. Of course, it was too good to be true. He ran from me the next morning, and I’m struggling to navigate my desire and his boundaries. It feels like one wrong move and years of friendship will be destroyed.
Austin Almost everything I knew about myself was a lie. Except the part where I always harm the people I love. Sometimes love demands honesty—even if it breaks everything. It doesn’t matter that I crave him—I need to protect Grayson from the devastation I cause. The problem: he’s the one person I can’t live without. If I tell him the truth, I could lose him. But by staying silent, I already have.
Scoring Zone is the 3rd book in the Enforcer MM Hockey series and can be read as a standalone. Read if you love waking up naked in Vegas, bi-awakening, best-friends to lovers, hurt/comfort, family drama, mental health rep, found family, and nosey teammates.
She’s a skeptic, a hopeless romantic, a jaded book addict, and in love with love.
Heather's books contain spicy scenes with a bit of kink, lots of heart, and angst to make the happily ever after even sweeter. Heather falls madly in love with her leading men and hopes you will too. She creates stories to take readers on a journey of broken men finding and accepting love. She believes everyone deserves their happy ending especially people who have been hurt or denied love in the past. Love is the best human experience.
Heather read her first romance that she snuck off her mother’s bookshelf as a pre-teen. Her favorite books break her heart and then put it back together. She wants to do the same, so her goal is to write books that unbreak your heart.
I was so glad to be an ARC reader on this book. I absolutely love the dynamic between Austin and Gray. I think the twinning was so cute in the other books and I was excited for their story. Austin’s ‘darkness’ was holding him back from his true love with Gray and gray was holding himself back with his insecurities. Reading their story and feeling the feels was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the pride night silliness. The spice level was perfect and the extra spicy parts were well written. This was my favorite of heathers books but I think the next book is going to be even better than this one and I can’t wait!
I’ve enjoyed Heather’s books in this series a lot but this one was my least favourite. I found some parts really repetitive like the mentions of Austin’s darkness and the back and forth of them wanting each other but one or the other thinking they’re better off not being together. Some of their dialogue was also confusing to me as to who was saying what.
Overall, I still do love this supportive and loving hockey family that Heather has built. The guys were really there for Austin and Grayson when they struggled with issues and supported them as a couple. These two were really insatiable and dependant on one another. It was really sweet to see their physical touch love language and the sticky love notes with movie quotes Austin left for Grayson.
I liked all of the mental health representation and the importance of talking to a therapist to work through issues. Austin struggled with his darkness which was his repressed feelings and Grayson struggled with otherness, always feeling like he didn’t belong.
I’m really looking forward to Jamal and Theo’s book next in the series. Stepbrothers who are enemies and now teammates? Sign me up!
- Best friends to lovers - Hockey captain X team’s trainer - Queer awakening - Roommates - Secret relationship - Hockey found family
It was so great to be back with the Enforcers! I really love their group and how they're all there for each . I was really excited for Austin and Grayson's story, because I love a best friends to lovers story. And while I did enjoy their story, I also felt like it was a bit rushed overall. Their mental health was more the focus of the book instead of the hockey in the frist half and I understand that, but everything hickey related felt rushed. The last 25% redeemed the story for me and I was happy to see them get closer and get through everything life was throwing in their way at that time. I enjoyed the focus on their mental health and how everything was represented. I loved Austin and Grayson, I really enjoyed the fact that they had a long history and how much they knew each other. They very cute, sweet and also hot together! I really enjoyed their chemistry and experimentation. I really loved the team shenanigans and their whole vibe. I really do love this team and I'm excited for the next book.
From the very first page, this story drew me in and didn’t let go. The dynamic between Grayson and Austin is raw and beautifully intense—the kind of “best friends to lovers” journey that hits deep. Their bi-awakening, hurt/comfort arc and found-family team setting made their struggle and growth feel both painfully real and hopeful. Grayson’s quiet strength and Austin’s internal turmoil captured me, and the intimate scenes? Chef’s kiss. Sensual yet grounded in emotional authenticity, the spice never overshadowed the heart. What sets this apart is not just the romance but the sense of belonging, the acceptance, the healing that comes from love and trust. A deeply heartfelt, steamy ride that stays with you long after the final page.
✨ Highly recommended. ❤️
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to be on the ARC team for Scoring Zone — I’m so grateful for the early read!
Finally got Grays & Aces book and it didn’t disappoint. I’m glad that Ace has Gray and that he helped him figure out his “darkness” but seeing everyone rally behind Gary was so amazing and I love this book. Can’t wait for the next one!
What happens when the fear of losing your best friend overtakes the desire you have for him
Wow, I couldn’t wait for this one! Ace (Austin) and Gray finally get their story on page. The matching clothes, the “care duos” of the captain and the trainer brings a story of long lasting friendship that turns into an everlasting love story. (WOW that sounds too mushy and Hallmark, this story is NOT a hallmark movie, ;)) You also see the other characters from previous books and I would actually read this book before Rhys book (The Truth of Our Secrets) if you haven’t already read it.
I have to take a moment on the mental health rep in this book. The author warns you and it’s not all handled like a clinical textbook within the pages, but it is a serious theme throughout their story. Anxiety, and self deprecating intrusive thoughts ARE ON PAGE. So if you struggle with this, ensure you’re in a good place and take care in choosing the timing of reading this book. They named their intrusive feelings and I loved that!!
This starts as spicy, then rebuilds the relationship and then phew, the spiciness returns! Communication between these 2 was such a joy to read and brings into the importance of having that constant check-in in a mild BDSM play. Mild in the typical Dom/sub isn’t present but the specific toys are!
The yearning: “I’ve always admired his loyalty and devotion as a friend, but knowing what he tastes like is turning my world upside down.” “I will bury my new attraction to him and never touch him again if we can keep our relationship.”
The declarations: (sigh) “You’re my rock. I’m a disorganized disaster if left to my own devices. You are the only person in my life who makes it easy for me to just be myself and relax. I don’t have to pretend to be someone I’m not. And that is invaluable to me.”
“I love being that for you. That you trust me to be here and catch you if you fall or bring you back if you’re overwhelmed.”
I loved it and hope you do too! This author will always be a must read/binge for me!

I am going to say I had been very much anticipating this book. We’ve seen the captain and the team PT book after book. The dressing a like and being overall completely in sync with each other. Childhood best friends and roommates for years. Both with insecurities and so much guilt. Years of Grayson believing Austin was straight or really Austin also thinking he was straight. One night changes everything and OMG so GOOD! Heather Leighson writing is flawless and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors blurb: Love was never the game plan.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know you’re 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
I think Austin freaking out about leaving bruises on Grayson's body and Grayson thinking that Austin was freaking out over having sex has got to be one of the most annoying miscommunications I've read. Literally four extra words would've solved the drama at the start (aka "I'm sorry [for giving you bruises]") and would've led to a better reason for Austin to run out and for Grayson to think about things rather than Grayson thinking that Austin was regretting having sex.
The fact that the author makes Austin's dialogue intentionally vague with "hurt you" instead of being specific (repeats it four times on the amends page btw) got in my nerves even more because Austin and Grayson still weren't on the same page only because of poor word choices.
They finally clear up the misunderstanding at 16% (only after using more "hurt you" vagueness)
I had to give up when Grayson said: "I never had a secret crush on you or wished you were bi because that would complicate things. But now... now things are complicated, you're not just my friend, you're the guy who made me come harder than I ever have. You made me want more."
So many problems with that statement. 1. Grayson was supposedly not attracted to Austin, yet he was 100% on board with kissing and having sex with him? Why? If he was fine with friendship before and wanted nothing more, why was he on board with having sex that NYE? 2. How in the world does Austin making him "come harder than ever" equal romance? If anything it just screams physical desire. Is that what they were talking about? An FWB situation between them? What exactly does "You made me want more" mean in this context? A relationship?
Then Austin just goes back to the whole "I can't give you what you want because I hurt you" schtick and I couldn't go on. It felt like the story was committed to making this dramatic conflict between two friends who want different things, but it never felt like they were ever really on the same page about what they were taking about. Hell, it felt like I couldn't grasp what the hell they wanted. What precisely did Austin want to protect Grayson from? A handful of bruises? You're telling me he couldn't restrain himself enough to not manhandle Grayson hard enough to break blood vessels? And what was Grayson asking from Austin? A committed relationship beyond friends? A casual friendship with sex? Everything pointed to the latter (there wasn't much in the way of telling us that Grayson wanted to get romantically involved because all the conversations they had were about sex and not emotions) but his reaction to Austin telling him he just wanted to stay friends implied that he wanted more.
TL;DR: Annoying miscommunication at the start that goes on way too long for how easily they could've gotten on the same page. Even when they were on the same page though, the character goals and motivations felt like they weren't aligned (aka Austin constantly repeating he didn't want to hurt Grayson as if leaving bruises that Grayson specifically said was ok was unacceptable and Grayson asking for either more sex or a relationship, but I couldn't figure out which because it felt like both but neither was very well developed). 1 star for how annoying it was to read.
I have to apologise for not following the other readers and leave a stellar review for this book.
This review contains spoilers, so please read at your own discretion.
I loved the 1st book in this series so much that I even 5 starred it! I was so so excited for this couple and the glimpse into their story through author's newsletter also kept me so interested. I had been waiting for this book since the author published release date.
I am now more than halfway through this book now but I just lost interest. Too many things happening at same time. Repetitive, unclear descriptions about MC's personality, too much of monologuing, did I say repetitive monologuing?
The way author tried to explain Ace's darkness saying it is somehow related to repressive tendencies about his interest in men was very convoluted. I was SO looking forward to read about Ace's darkness, it sounded yummy and delicious in the snippet author released in her newsletter about how Ace wanted to devour Gray, the possessiveness, leaving his marks on him etc etc etc all the fun growly parts that I love to see in an MC.
But it is all only in that snippet and not the book. Although it started with that premise and it also featured a bit in Ace's monologues, it fizzled out. Instead, it went in a completely different tangent where Ace wanted to explore BDSM (aka read spanking and flogging) not as giver but as a recipient and even goes into subspace. And Gray flogging him like as if he is an experienced Dom was too much. And soon after Ace goes into subspace where his speech even slurs (does not show but author says it, so am saying it), Gray asks him to fuck him. I mean, are you serious, right now? I have read quite a lot of BDSM books and although I am not an expert but there is no way a person who is in subspace can immediately shoot up and ram his dick into his partner. Come onnnnnnnnnn!
If you are going to write about a character that he is a switch then dont make the beginning sound like as if he is THE Alpha. It really threw me for a loop. I was in the mindset to see Ace exploring his possessiveness and "Mine" on Gray. Maybe it happens in the last 1/3rd of the book but it just lost me at this point and I am so upset that it ended up like this for me. I really really was expecting so much from Ace's character.
Now, I really really wish I had not read through their snippet in author's newsletter :( Maybe I could have read through this book. But alas, it is what it is. I may or may not come back to this book. As of now, I am in a disappointed state and not in a mood to continue it. I dont want to spend time on a book that I am not enjoying just for the sake of finishing it. DNFing it for now (?).
Despite all this, I am still interested in Jamal King and Theo. Lets go!

I’ve been waiting for this book to drop, and it absolutely did not disappoint. From page one, I was hooked. Grayson and Austin’s story is raw, intimate, messy, and so emotionally layered—everything I want in a best-friends-to-lovers MM hockey romance.
Their dynamic grabbed me immediately. One unexpected night together flips their entire friendship upside down, and the fallout is heartbreakingly real. Grayson’s quiet strength and open longing made me ache for him, and Austin’s turmoil—his fear of hurting the people he loves, his confusion, his bi-awakening panic—was handled with so much sensitivity. These two are written with such care that you can feel every ounce of tension, desire, and fear between them.
The hurt/comfort in this book? PERFECT. Austin trying to protect Grayson by pushing him away, Grayson trying to respect Austin’s boundaries without losing himself—both of them stumbling through their feelings and making mistakes because they care too damn much. It’s vulnerable and honest in a way that hits deep.
And the intimacy… chef’s kiss. Spicy, yes, but grounded in emotion. Every scene feels earned, not thrown in. The chemistry is electric, but it’s the emotional closeness beneath it—the history, the trust, the heartbreak—that makes it unforgettable.
What really sets this book apart is the sense of belonging. The found-family hockey team, the nosy teammates who care too much, the glimpses into mental health struggles and healing—Heather Leighson makes it all feel real. It’s not just a romance; it’s a story about acceptance, truth, and choosing to love even when it terrifies you.
If you love: 🏒 Best friends → lovers 🏒 Waking up in Vegas (chaos!!) 🏒 Bi-awakening 🏒 Hurt/comfort 🏒 Mental health representation 🏒 Found family 🏒 Hockey boys being nosy as hell
…this book is going to hit you right in the chest.
A deeply heartfelt, emotional, and seriously steamy ride. I loved every single moment.

I'm not sure about you, but I'm a big fan of books with a friends-to-lovers trope, because these romances often feature two people who start their journey with a lot of platonic love and a history of supporting one another. Friendships that evolve into love have a strong foundation of mutual acceptance and appreciation. They begin with genuine concern and care for one another, but that can also leave room for misunderstandings when the relationship moves into new territory.
This is a loose description of what is at the root of how Grayson and Austin navigate the passionate night they spend together in Vegas on New Year's Eve. Everything seems perfect... until it doesn't in the light of day. The misunderstanding that happens the morning after is driven by miscommunication and a misplaced sense of what each person needs/wants/expects. However, it's clear to readers that the amount of love and respect they have for each other will flourish when Austin and Grayson can learn to fully communicate their romantic feelings and needs, the way they're transparent and directly communicative about the other parts of their lives. As a reader, I really appreciated the tension and growth in the story as the character navigated these dynamics.
Scoring Zone is book 3 in Heather Leighson's Enforcers Hockey series (but it can be read as a standalone). It's a best friends-to-lovers romance with hurt/comfort vibes and some hockey team drama and shenanigans sprinkled throughout. This was a quick read that delivered on the same storytelling that I've come to expect from Leighson's romances: a sensitive depiction of mental health, strong character development, accessible and nuanced emotional journeys, and steamy - but not gratuitous - spice. I highly recommend it (and the whole series)!
This is my favourite by far of the series. Ace and Gray's twinning has been a perpetual theme, with them dressing alike so often it's become a running joke for the team. Here, we get to know the real men behind their wardrobes and it was a gem of a romance. Friends since an early age, playing hockey in middle school until Gray is injured, they have a very close bond. Ace is the team captain of the Enforcers and Gray is the team's trainer, and they are also roommates. Austin has mental health issues, not that he sees it like that, and Grayson doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere. They are both struggling silently until one explosive New Year's Eve kiss changes everything. Their romance was full of passion, hot and steamy, desperate for each other. It wasn't without its bumps along the way but through it all, they talked and never for a moment was there any doubt that they'd find their way through their own issues and live their HEA out and proud. Once again, it's an ensemble cast, with familiar faces in the locker room and the wider Enforcers' organisation. I love seeing the team dynamics, a real family with a warmth and affection for each other. This time, a new character from another team was introduced who caught my eye, and I fully expect him to get his own book soon. I love the mystery surrounding the connection between him and the Enforcers' character that he obviously has a history with! King is up next, with a stepbrother romance that we all saw coming a mile off, with Heather's heavy hints about their antagonistic relationship. April's too long a time away.
Tropes Best friends to lovers Kink exploration Biting/marking Spanking Bi-awakening Mental health rep Found family
Heather is 3 for 3 on the Enforcers Series!
Austin freaks out after an amazing night with his best friend Grayson. You would think it would be because he is straight. Nope. This man is afraid to let out a side of him that would potentially hurt Grayson. But he can’t tell Grayson the truth, he can’t know about this side of Austin.
I loved the relationship between Austin and Grayson before this book. I loved the whole “twinsies” vibe in their outfits. These two belong together and fit together and deserve each other and deserve all the sticky notes and should always be allowed kissy-face!
Austin’s introduction in some kink was genius! I may have taken some notes…for science of course.
I love the dynamic switch between them going from Grayson spanking/flogging Austin to switching the role where Austin takes control and becomes the dominant partner.
Lowkey was hoping for a scene where Austin would be able to let loose a little more and just bite/mark Grayson all over his body. But no hard feelings.
I cannot not mention how much I love love love the prior couples coming up during the book and how they were there for both Austin and Grayson. Especially when Grayson realizes they’re his friends too. And you best believe I loved Brant’s and King’s shenanigans!
Can’t wait for book 4! Is it too soon to sign up for book 4’s ARC?
This is the third book in The Enforcers MM Hockey Romance series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone read. Each book in this series focuses on a different couple. This is the story of Austin Lapointe and Grayson Ward. Austin is a professional hockey player and the captain of his team. He is happy to work and live with his best friend Grayson. After an injury ended his hockey career, Grayson became of physical therapist for the Enforcers hockey team. He is happy to still be connected to hockey and to his best friend. And as he is no longer a player, he is out as to his bisexuality. Living with Austin is both heaven and hell. He is in love with his straight best friend. He never plans to let Austin know as he fears losing his valued friendship. Then one night in Las Vegas happens. Now neither one know what to do or how to move forward. This is their story. The book is well written and easy to read. I loved watching their relationship deepen. Both Austin and Grayson had personal baggage to deal with. Grayson was suffering from imposter syndrome. Never believing that he was good enough at his job nor that people actually wanted to be his friend. And Austin had some mental health challenges as he never learned to deal with intense emotions in a safe way. Luckily they supported each other and had the full support and help of their teammates. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I enjoyed this book. It was nice to finally know the entire story of "the twins".
What an incredible story, one that not only gives us hockey fans another great romance to read but which also sensitively highlights the very real mental health issues that are often hidden from those around us. Mental health issues are very real, I know this from my own personal experience and whilst the story was not triggering to me please be aware that it could be for you. From my perspective it was informative and dealt with in such a way as to give me hope, for the characters and for opinions to change as more people are given the opportunity to explore these issues through the safety of a story.
And what a story it is. The mental health issues are there but so is a romance, a love so deep it should be impossible for anything to break it. Best friends, teammates, lovers. This is what Grayson and Austin are to one another and yet that feels almost too limiting. They are so much more. After one incredible night, something that Grayson had dreamed of but never imagined would be possible, Austin tries to stay away but Grayson is persistent and kind with it. He loves Austin as a best friend, would give anything to be able to love him as more. If he can help Austin see him as his safe place, a place where he can open up, share his truths, then they could find themselves mirroring their on-the-ice success in their personal lives.
A moving, passionate, hope-filled story. There is found family as well as nosey teammates in the locker room and on the ice, there is love and acceptance, hockey and a story that will have you hooked from the first pages.
Scoring Zone is the third book in the Enforcer MM Hockey series by Heather Leighson. It can be read as a standalone but I do recommend the books that come before this one :) The premise of the story line is best friends who fall in love. We start off meeting Grayson, and Austion on New Years eve, shortly before the countdown. They have a moment at the bar during the countdown where everything crashes together, and then they end up spending a magical night in Vegas. Come morning, Austin realizes he is not as straight as he thinks he is, and while his bisexuality doesn't bother him, his "darkness" does, in fear of hurting Greyson (not phycologically but physically) ... he runs. As the story continues, both characters take a deep dive into themselves to figure out what they truly want and take the steps necessary to help themselves and each other. Grayson needs to get over his feeling of being on the outside, and Austin strives to get help in overcoming his "darkness". Together, they heal and form a stronger bond than the friendship they started off with. Their solid relationship helps them get through a tough situation near the end of the book without breaking them up. The angst was lower with this one which is perfect. I enjoy the friends to lover's trope, especially when it involves hockey! I really enjoyed the background thread/slyly mentioned moments of the stories I have already read in this series (namely Leo's face LOL), very well done! I highly recommend this book and this author to anyone; I look forward to reading the stories of Future enforcers!

I was so excited going into this book. I’d already read the first two in the series, and I’ve always loved Grayson and Austin’s friendship throughout them, so best believe I was ready to devour this one.
But… something kind of fell flat for me.
That being said, I loved Grayson. I’ve adored him throughout the whole series, and this book only made me love him more. He’s such a genuinely good character. However, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the story was much more focused on Austin and his journey of self-discovery. And yes, Austin is a closeted hockey player struggling with his mental health, which is important and deserves space, but Grayson is just as important. It felt like, once again, Grayson was constantly putting himself second to make sure Austin had everything he needed. Which is sweet, but also, Grayson, please put yourself first sometimes.
Austin was a really tricky character for me in this book. We see a completely different side of him compared to the first two books, and it’s clear he’s dealing with a lot that’s starting to impact his life. I’m glad Grayson was there to support him, but I do wish Austin had been able to face some of his demons a little more independently. It felt like, unintentionally, there was a lot of pressure placed on Grayson, and their relationship ended up feeling more beneficial to Austin than to Grayson.
That said, I still love this team. After three books, they’re easily some of the most supportive teammates I’ve read about, and I will always show up for them. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is a series that I always look forward to continuing when a new book is released. Austin is Captain of the team and Grayson due to an injury is now one of the trainers best friends since school and now roommates. They are really close but on New Years Eve they get closer. Austin and Grayson have been on my radar since they were being made fun of, due to them wearing matching outfits and I was looking forward to their story. My heart went out to both Austin and Gray, Austin wanted to protect everyone else and it showed what a good captain he was, being at everyone's beck and call, putting his own wellbeing to the backburner, whilst also protecting Gray from his "darkness" fearing he would hurt Gray and ruin their friendship and then you have Grayson who feels that he is a nobody, sponging off Austin, an outsider looking in. After that New Year night, their relationship was a slow burn as they eventually start talking to each other, both trying to help each other. The more they talk, the more you know about their history together, including Grayson's injury. I loved catching up with previous characters and I really like how close the team are, quick to support each without asking questions. With King playing a bigger part in this story I am super excited in his story as stepbrothers is my favourite trope and please tell me Rhys will get his story as reading between the lines there is definitely something going on with him.
So I ended up getting bored of this book quite quickly.
I did really like Gray and Austin together, especially at the beginning but towards the end they weren’t really doing anything for me. I’m not sure if I feel like that because the book was dragging on forever or if they genuinely were just boring. I did really like both their characters and personalities but I honestly just wanted the book to end once I was 220 pages in. I feel like there was way too much happening and it was all over the place.
It was like one minute they were trying to help Austin with the darkness that takes over him and then it just jumped straight to the assault and charges with Gray. It made no sense especially because then the darkness wasn’t really properly mentioned again.
However, one thing I actually did love about the book was the teammates bond and also their bond with Gray even though he wasn’t exactly a teammate. I loved all those sweet and hilarious moments between them all.
I also noticed how there was definitely some history between Rhys Brant (a player from New York) and Mr Dimon (the GM of their team). So I hope we get a book about them in the future.
I really loved seeing more crumbs of Jamal King, and I’m so happy he came out of his shell in this book and we got to see more of his personality. I’m so excited for the next book between Jamal and Theo (his step brother who’s being traded to his team).
✦ 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 - • best friends to lovers • mm hockey romance • found family • hurt/comfort • mental health & healing • vegas night gone right • slow burn with second chances
✦ 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - Scoring Zone follows Austin and Grayson - two best friends whose one impulsive night in Vegas flips their entire friendship into something deeper. What starts as confusion and guilt slowly blooms into healing, trust, and love. The author beautifully mixes hockey life, found family warmth, and the messy, emotional process of falling for someone you never expected. I adored how their chemistry built over time the push and pull, the comfort, the quiet moments that said more than words. Austin’s struggle with shame and control felt raw and real, while Grayson’s calm presence and inner strength grounded the story. It’s not just romance; it’s about learning that love doesn’t need to fit inside a box. The pacing dips a little in the middle, but the emotional payoff and soft, heartfelt ending totally make up for it. The team dynamic gives cozy vibes, the spice fits the story perfectly, and that epilogue was pure happiness. A tender, slow-burn love story about acceptance, vulnerability, and finding peace where you least expect it. Thank you so much author for the free ARC!
✨ARC Review✨ Scoring Zone is book 3 in the Enforcers MM Hockey Romance series and is a best friends-to-lovers romance. It can technically be read as a standalone, but as someone who has not read the previous books, I would encourage you to do so just so you have a better understanding of side characters. I normally don't have a problem catching up with characters from previous books that I haven't read, but I felt like there was a lot of history with side characters that I had missed out on by not reading the first two. With that being said, I did enjoy Austin & Gray's story. It's obvious from the beginning that their love for one another goes back farther than either initially realizes. The friendship they have is amazing and the level of communication between them as they figure things out was a welcoming surprise, considering so many of these types of stories have miscommunication tropes. Their love language is beautiful and it was wonderful to see how they reassured one another when the doubts crept in. Their connection & the spice in the bedroom kicks off from the get-go and only heats up as their story progresses. I love that they wasted no time exploring the kinks that make them tick. 👏🏼 Since this was an ARC, the author teases that we may see the bonus epilogue I know we were all hoping for, but we will have to wait until the actual book release on 11/21. 🤞🏼
This was my first book from Heather and I really loved the story. I am giving this a 4.5 rounded up to 5.
One drunken night in Vegas changes a friendship. There are definitely a lot of ups and downs between the two men. We have some fantastic mental health representation in this. The biawakening was done beautifully.
Austin deals with a "darkness" that makes him afraid of hurting people when it takes over. I love the way they deal with this between the two men as well as the therapy use.
Grayson can't live without Austin and while he would love to be more he would never push especially since he is straight. He certainly didn't expect that he was actually bi and wanted him. Gray deals with a lot of insecurities. He always sees himself as disposable or less than.
I love the way this relationship moves forward. They definitely have their challenges but nothing they can't get through as long as they are together. They hold each other together and lift each other up whenever one needs a boost.
I absolutely loved the pride night and all the chaos that happened after it. The whole concussion scene was funny because of the hysterical dialogue. I love the way everyone came together with the lawsuit business.
Don't forget to grab that bonus though because it is the perfect conclusion to the story.
Welcome to yet another heartfelt story written by Heather… Oh the way I gobbled this one up! The only time I put the book down was to text my friends about it.
Scoring Zone is a beautiful story about two best friends falling in love.
Austin is the team captain and Grayson is a physical therapist on the hockey team that had to switch careers after an injury.
Gray has already shared with the world he’s bi but Austin is known to be straight. That is until one night when he looks his best friend in the eye and the rest is history.
Austin is haunted by the darkness and hurting his best friend was never in the cards. However, it did happen during a wonderful night filled with passion. So he vows to stay away to make sure it never happens again. Grayson however, has other plans. Because for him it was everything he ever wanted.
Together they embark on a journey to cope with the darkness without losing the important elements of it. Grayson is such an incredible sweetheart and he irrevocably stole my heart.
Scoring Zone gets 4.5 ⭐️ and 3 🌶️ ✨ Friends to Lovers ✨ Roommates ✨ Close Proximity ✨ Hockey Romance ✨ 🌈 Awakening
Bravo Heather, I can’t wait to read Jamal’s story!
It took me a little while to get into this book, but I couldn’t put it down once I did. Grayson and Austin have been friends since practically forever, and played hockey together for most of their careers. When Grayson has a career ending injury, Austin immediately asks him to move in with him while Grayson goes to graduate school.
A New Year’s kiss changes everything between the two, and it’s a bumpy ride from there. While it was hard watching Austin struggle with the shame and guilt that was part of his upbringing, I was more gutted with Grayson’s struggle to believe that other people saw him as someone worth being around.
I love the dynamic between the whole team. The fact that the team would tease them about their unintentional twinning in the beginning made it more obvious to all of them something was off when the two suddenly stopped being so in sync. The support from all levels in the organization was also a nice touch, and I am curious to see more of Mr. Dimon as I feel there’s a story with that one.
Thank you to the author for the ARC, and I can’t wait to see what goes on with the Enforcers in the next book!
Scoring Zone by Heather Leighson totally hit the spot for me. It’s an MM hockey romance with that friends-to-lovers fast burn that just works. Austin and Grayson already have a tight bond on and off the ice, and watching it shift into something more was honestly the best kind of slow emotional chaos.
Austin has that “I’ll take care of everyone but never let anyone take care of me” energy. He worries he’ll push away or hurt anyone who gets too close. Meanwhile, Grayson is terrified of causing problems for Austin — especially when it comes to coming out and the pressure of their careers. The tension between wanting each other and not wanting to ruin anything felt so real.
Their journey into a relationship is sweet, messy, and believable, and the team-as-family vibe around them is just heart-melting. The found-family element is strong and added so much warmth to the story.
I super enjoyed this one and would absolutely recommend it if you love MM sports romance with big heart and big emotion.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story completely took me by surprise—in the best way. I started off really liking Austin, the confident team captain, and Grayson, the thoughtful team trainer, but as the story went on, I fell in love with both of them. Their friendship was already strong, but watching it grow into something deeper and more meaningful was just perfect.
Their chemistry? Absolutely electric. You can feel it in every scene—on the ice, in the locker room, and in those quiet, honest moments that show who they really are. The hockey elements are so vivid.
What really made this story stand out to me was how it blended love, friendship, and self-acceptance so naturally. The way the author handled mental health and the importance of reaching out for help felt so real and genuine. It gave the story depth and made the ending feel strong and complete.
An amazing, heartfelt read that left me smiling and completely in love with these two. 💙🏒
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily leaving my review.
I really enjoyed this story. Austin, the steadfast team captain, and Grayson, the devoted team physical therapist, have always shared a deep bond—but when a single night changes everything, their friendship turns into something neither of them expected. As they face their insecurities, past wounds, and the fear of losing the person who knows them best, their connection only grows stronger.
The author does such a great job balancing the romance with real themes of mental health, identity, and self-worth. Austin’s inner battles and Grayson’s feelings of not being enough make their journey feel so genuine and emotional. I also loved the hockey setting and the sense of team family—it adds so much warmth and fun to the story.
Tender, passionate, and full of heart, this friends-to-lovers romance is about love, healing, and learning to lean on the people who see you for who you are. And the spice? Perfectly done—hot, emotional, and written with just the right amount of intensity.
I am so, so glad that I had the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book! I devoured it the minute I started reading, and I absolutely ADORED Grayson and Austin.
Grayson and Austin have been best friends for years, but New Years Eve changes everything. Connected by hockey and their history, they take us with them on their journey of falling in love....complete with adorable sticky note love letters and nicknames (Gray, Tinny, Sunshine :)). Of course, no journey is complete without a few pitfalls along the way. We get to experience their insecurities, fears, and a little bit of repressed childhood trauma. Heather Leighson does an excellent job with character development, as well as showing us the tactics they use to navigate these pitfalls.
Being a part of their adventure teaches us about love, friendship, family, and acceptance. Oh! And the love scenes are SPICYYYYYY....wooooo!!! "I want everyone to know you're mine and I'm yours. So they know we chose each other and no one else can have you. Ever."
Thank you, Heather, for my copy of Scoring Zone. This is the 3rd Enforcers Hockey book and part of Heather's wider world. I have wanted this book since the bonus scene in Penalty Zone. Captain of the Enforcers Ace (Austin) and childhood Best Friend & Enforcers staff member Grayson get hot & heavy on NYE in Vegas. Scoring Zone starts just before Penalty Zone ends & got me straight in the feels, I was beyond rooting for their HEA. Not just their HEA, but for them to both feel secure in themselves. The Enforcers are a fabulous example of found family & I definitely want to join the family.
Scoring Zone was full of heart, healing and heat. I am already excited to read book 4, thanks to that cheeky Jamal King Bonus. Heather sprinkles her work with Easter Eggs and I cannot wait to read more but this talented author.

I was thrilled to be selected as an ARC reader. I’m a huge fan of your work and have read every book in this series. The relationship between Grayson and Austin is beautiful. At first, I was so frustrated with Austin because he kept creating obstacles that weren’t really there. I understood that he was struggling mentally and believed that the only way to protect his friendship with Grayson was to sacrifice his own feelings. That made me love him even more, but I was also yelling at him because Grayson just wanted his love. It honestly broke my heart watching Austin hold back, thinking his best friend wouldn’t reciprocate.
Eventually, Austin realizes that love is always the answer, and I’m so proud of the way their relationship transitioned from friends to lovers. Their story shows that love is a strength, and no matter the circumstances or challenges, once you find your person, everything finds a way to work out.
This was a wonderful book, and I cannot wait for the next one. Great job, Heather!
