Whew, what a book! I received this book as an ARC. After seeing @nessiebloom_ video about it, I fell in love with the cover and thought, "This is my kind of book." I immediately shot my shot to the authors, and they responded! 😉 I'm still processing the diverse emotions this book evoked in me. I screamed, blushed, felt angry, and said, "God, when?" a million times. "One Plus One" follows Amir and Khadija through their journey—from meeting at his club, navigating the talking stage, flirting, going on romantic dates, having amazing adventures, building their relationship, and getting married. Beneath all the love-dovey scenarios lies a thrilling plot. My Thoughts 💭 As a romance lover, the elements weren't new to me, but the energy was on a 100! Amir and Khadija are a perfect match. - Chemistry: ✔️ - Aura: ✔️ - Banter (light and heated): ✔️—I come de borrow lines from fictional characters oo. 😂 - S3xual tension: ✔️ - Spice: ✔️✔️✔️—The spice in this book was well-written. 👏 The characters were also well-developed!
✨ Amir is an amazing single dad and a hopeless romantic. He’s a "He falls first and harder!" kind of guy. A new book boyfriend? Yessssssssss! Show me the sweetest MMC you know; I’ll wait. 🙂↔️ Amir would go to great lengths for the people he loves, but he has a lot of skeletons in his closet. I understand where he’s coming from and how he ended up living that life, but there’s no excuse for not being open with the woman he wants to spend his life with. That’s the one flaw I found in him. ✨ Khadija is kind, smart, loyal, and strong—the queen of "soft life." God truly blessed her with Amir to make her life seamless! I enjoyed her POV so much. I love that she wasn’t intimidated by Amir's charm and aura. I appreciated how she loved Amira, Amir's daughter, as if she were her own. Big Khads for a reason!!! 😍
✨ Nandooo! I love the name. 😂 He was one of my favourite characters in this book. I enjoyed his POV and what real pain he experienced. He was loyal to Amir, and honestly, I haven’t seen such loyalty before.
I can't find the remaining part of my review, but I highly recommend.
The authors were so kind and sent me an ARC. This is the second book in the series and after reading this, I really need to read the first book.
I have so many feelings about this book, and I’m still holding my chest. One Plus One is a slow burn that turns into an emotional thriller. A romance so grounded in reality and tension, you’ll be questioning everyone’s past—even your own.
This is not just a love story. It’s a reckoning. A tense, emotional, gorgeously layered exploration of trust, love, secrets, and the cost of choosing the truth when it’s wrapped in danger.
Let’s talk characters,
Khadijah — Smart, confident, emotionally honest, and loyal. I loved her voice. The way she protected Amira, the way she pushed Amir to open up, the way she stood her ground when things fell apart. She’s the kind of woman who deserves softness—and she demanded it even when life kept handing her sharp edges.
Amir— I can’t lie, I was in love, confused, angry, and then protective of him all at once. He’s one of the most layered male leads I’ve read in a while. One minute, he’s bringing roses to open day, dancing in the kitchen with Amira. The next, he’s revealing a hidden room behind a mirror filled with guns, passports, and decades of secrets. You want to trust him—but you also want to shake him. And yet…you feel his pain.
Amira — Their daughter stole my heart. Her love for her dad, her growing bond with Khadijah, her presence in the story—it’s what raised the stakes emotionally. Every twist hit harder because she existed.
The romance? Beautiful, mature, and earned. The second half of the book? I wasn’t ready. Secrets explode. Nando’s betrayal, The hidden identities, The FCB raid, The scene where Amir doesn’t even kiss her, just tells her to pack and RUN? My chest was tight. The authors dragged us through the fire. It reminded me that love isn’t always pretty. Sometimes it’s survival. Sometimes it’s choosing someone even when the truth breaks you both open. Sometimes it’s holding onto a vow even when you have every reason to walk away.
Final thoughts: The authors gave us romance with real consequences. This isn’t your average flowers-and-sunset love story. This is love under pressure. Love when it hurts. Love that asks—Can you stay, even after the truth explodes in your face? I was rooting for Amir and Khadijah even when I wanted to scream at both of them. That’s how you know it’s a GOOD book.
This story gripped me, wrecked me, and stayed with me. Highly, highly recommend
This was such a feel-good read…. light, smooth, and easy to get through.
I really enjoyed seeing Ladi and Amara again in this book. Funny enough, I actually loved them here, even though I didn’t like them much in their own story, lol. Thank you for the authors for the ARC copy <3
